First determine whether the game only placed a temporary visual effect over the page or whether the site still displays or behaves incorrectly after the game closes. Use the game’s own exit or reset control, then reload the page. If the problem remains, temporarily disable the game’s browser extension and test again. Do not erase cookies, local storage or all site data until you have checked whether the game stores progress there and provides an export or backup.
For Page Rage, the publisher says the “damage” is a temporary visual overlay on your device: it does not delete the underlying website or send shots to it. Its restart arrow or Shift+R clears the effect, while Escape or the power button exits. Those controls and that assurance apply to Page Rage specifically; another browser game may use different controls and storage.

Identify what “damaged” means before changing browser data
Browser-game problems that look similar can have completely different causes. A canvas effect, a broken display left by an extension, and a deleted game save are separate states. Diagnose the symptom first so that the fix does not remove information you still need.

Page Rage’s FAQ is explicit that its effects do not alter the underlying site. Do not extend that statement to every game, bookmarklet or extension. If a product does not explain where it stores state, treat its save as potentially local until you verify otherwise.

Follow the least-destructive recovery sequence
- Leave or reset the game. If it is open, select its exit, power, close or restart control. If the page is merely covered by an effect, choose reset before closing the tab.
- Reload the affected page. A normal reload rebuilds the page without immediately deleting cookies or local storage. If your browser offers a hard-reload command in its reload menu, use that only after a normal reload fails.
- Test the game’s extension or add-on. Open the browser’s Extensions, Add-ons or Manage extensions screen, switch off the extension associated with the game, and reopen the page. Extension menus and labels vary by browser and version.
- Check the result in a clean page session. Close the affected tab, open the site again and verify whether scrolling, buttons, images and text behave normally. Do not remove saved data merely because the visual layer looked damaged.
- Use product-specific troubleshooting. Follow the game publisher’s documented reload, browser or cache instructions when the generic steps do not work. Advice for one product is not automatically safe for another.
- Back up progress before any data deletion. If the game offers export, download or backup, create that file and confirm where it was saved before clearing cookies, site storage or browsing data.
- Escalate only after identifying the affected state. When a page remains broken but the game is gone, contact the site or game support team with the browser, profile, device and exact symptom instead of reporting it simply as a “damaged website.”
Page Rage: the documented reset and exit controls
Page Rage is the clearest example of a browser game that presents “damage” as an effect rather than a real edit. According to its publisher FAQ, the effect is temporary and remains on the player’s device; the game neither deletes the underlying website nor sends shots to it.
Clear the effect without leaving the game
Click the restart arrow or press Shift+R. The page should return to its pre-game visual state. Use this reset before refreshing or changing browser settings, because it addresses the game layer directly.
Exit the game
Press Escape or select the power button shown by the game. After the game closes, reload the page and test its controls. If the effect returns immediately, the game or its extension may still be active in that tab.

Another game may bind reset, pause and exit to different keys, a menu item or an on-screen button. Look for its help, settings or FAQ rather than repeatedly pressing Page Rage’s shortcuts. A shortcut that does nothing is not evidence that the website itself was modified.

When the page still looks broken after the game closes
Disable the associated add-on temporarily
Browser extensions can continue running after a game tab is closed. Roblox Support includes disabling browser add-ons among its troubleshooting steps for display, loading and interaction problems on Roblox’s website. That is a product-specific support recommendation, but it is a useful diagnostic pattern: turn off only the suspected add-on, reopen the page and compare the result.
If disabling the extension fixes the page, leave it off while you report the problem to the game publisher. Re-enable unrelated extensions one at a time if you need to identify a conflict. Browser menus differ, so use the extension manager supplied by your browser rather than deleting the extension or its data.
Refresh or try another browser when loading is the issue
Spil Games recommends reopening the browser, refreshing, or trying another browser for the game-loading problem described in its support material. Those steps are appropriate for that loading context; they are not a guarantee that a different browser will recover a deleted save. A second browser also starts with a different storage area, so it may not contain the original game run.
Use cache guidance only for a display problem
Cache contains reusable page files, while cookies and site storage can contain login information and game data. Rockstar Games’ PC support article recommends clearing cache for certain problems involving current information or performance on its websites. Follow that advice within its stated Rockstar context, and select a cache-only option when your browser provides one. Do not interpret “clear cache” as permission to erase cookies or local storage as well.

Protect game progress before clearing anything
Many casual games save in the browser rather than on a publisher account. Signals Games’ save and export guide, updated September 27, 2026, describes saves as separate for each game and browser, with no account or device synchronization, and recommends exporting a JSON backup before importing another run or confirming a restart.
Export first when an option exists
- Open the game’s save, settings or backup screen while you are still using the browser and profile that contain the run.
- Choose the export or download command and save the JSON (or the format the game specifies) outside the browser, such as in a clearly named local folder.
- Check that the file exists and can be opened as a file before importing, restarting or clearing site data.
- Keep the original file unchanged. Work from a copy if the game offers an import operation.
Signals Games’ instructions concern its own save system; other games may use a different format or no export at all. Never assume that copying a browser bookmark backs up a game run.
Record the storage context
Write down the original browser name and version, browser profile, device and game URL or title. A local save can be invisible when you open the game in another profile, another browser or another device, even if the page itself loads normally. Return to the original context before concluding that progress is gone.
Understand cache, cookies, local storage and cloud saves

“Clear browser data” is not one harmless operation. Depending on the browser dialog, it can include cache, cookies, local storage, saved permissions and other site data. Select the narrowest category that addresses the diagnosed problem.

What to do if progress is missing
Check the original browser context
- Close duplicate game tabs so you do not overwrite a run with a blank session.
- Return to the original browser, profile and device.
- Open the exact game and wait for its save to load before starting a new run.
- Look for the game’s account, import, backup or restore controls.
- Search the game’s official help for its stated storage and recovery policy.
Know when recovery is not available
Playit-Online says it cannot restore a save held only in browser storage. Arkadium Player Support likewise explains that many of its games use local storage and that support cannot restore lost progress. These statements set an important expectation: if the only copy was deleted and the game has no account, export or cloud backup, there may be no technical restore path.
Do not promise that reinstalling the browser, refreshing the page or switching devices will recover a local-only save. Those actions can create a new storage area instead of recreating the old one.
If an account or cloud save exists
Sign in to the same account used when the run was created, then follow that game’s documented sync or restore process. If the game provides an import file, use the file you exported before clearing data. Support may ask for the game title, account identifier, browser, device, approximate last-played time and the steps that preceded the loss.
Choose the right reset for the symptom

Browser menu differences and safe handling
Chrome-based browsers, Firefox, Safari and other browsers use different labels for extensions, cached files and site data. One browser may place per-site deletion under a lock icon beside the address, while another places it under privacy settings. Read the categories in the confirmation dialog and deselect cookies or local storage when your goal is only to refresh cached files.
Do not use a “cleaner” utility as a first response. The documented game-support guidance warns that clearing data can remove casual-game progress, and no source establishes a cleaner as a remedy for a browser-game overlay. The safer sequence is game reset, reload, extension test, then narrowly scoped cache troubleshooting.
When the website itself may have been changed
A browser game that draws on top of a page is different from software that submits edits to the site’s server. Page Rage explicitly says it does not send shots to the underlying website. If you see altered content while signed in, the alteration persists across browsers and devices, or other users see it too, treat it as an account or server issue. Document the affected URL, account, time and visible change, and use the website’s official support channel.
Browser recovery steps cannot reverse a server-side edit, a deleted account record or a moderation action. Conversely, a server-side problem is not evidence that a local browser game caused it. Keeping those two states separate prevents destructive troubleshooting.

When the basic sequence does not resolve the problem, send support a concise report containing:
- The game and the page that was open.
- Whether the effect disappeared after the game’s reset or exit control.
- Browser name and version, operating system, device and browser profile.
- Whether the associated extension was disabled and what changed.
- Whether the issue affects display, page interaction, loading or only game progress.
- Whether you cleared cache, cookies or site storage, and exactly which category.
- The existence of an account, export file, cloud save or other backup.
Attach an export file only through the official support method and remove passwords or personal data from any diagnostic material.
Prevent the next incident
- Learn the game’s reset and exit controls before starting a session.
- Keep the game extension disabled when you are not using it if the product allows that workflow.
- Export JSON or another backup format whenever the game provides one.
- Keep saves in the same browser profile and avoid clearing site storage casually.
- Use a descriptive backup filename that includes the game and date.
- Before trying another browser, remember that local saves may not follow you.
- Read the game’s support page for its account, export and recovery limits.
The reliable restoration path is therefore diagnostic, not destructive: remove the game layer with its own control, reload the page, isolate any extension, and protect local saves before touching browser data. Recovery beyond that point depends on where the game stored its state and what backup or support route that particular product provides.
