If a page has vanished from tab search, it may still be open in another window, or it may be available in your browser’s recently closed tabs or history. Check those places before assuming it is gone. The recovery steps depend on your browser and device, and no browser guarantees that a tab can be restored after its session or history data is no longer available.
First check whether the tab is still open
Tab search may not be the only way to find an open page. Look through other browser windows and any tab groups you have collapsed or set aside. In Microsoft Edge, Tab search can search open tabs across Edge windows as well as recently closed tabs (Microsoft Edge Tab search). If the page is open on another device, cross-device tabs may help when the relevant sync feature is set up; Safari’s iCloud Tabs requirements are covered below.
Restore a tab or window in your browser
Google Chrome on desktop
On Windows, Linux, or Chromebook, press Ctrl+Shift+T; on Mac, press Command+Shift+T. Chrome reopens recently closed tabs. For a whole window, open the three-dot menu, point to History, and choose the window under Recently closed; Google’s instructions describe selecting Restore Window when that option appears. These menu labels come from Google’s October 11, 2022 guide and may change (Google’s Chrome tab recovery guide).
To preserve a set of open pages for later, use Chrome’s Bookmark All Tabs command and save them in a bookmark folder.

Google Chrome on Android
Open Chrome’s tab switcher and use tab search to look for a keyword from the page or its title. Google says Android tab search can include recently closed tabs and tabs from other devices; to find tab groups in those results, you need to be signed in and have Sync turned on. Select the tab or group in the results. Inactive tabs can also be restored from the tab switcher. The exact controls may vary by device (Google Chrome Help: Manage tabs in Chrome on Android).
Microsoft Edge
Open Tab search and search for a word from the page title or address. Edge’s feature can find open and recently closed tabs, including tabs in other open Edge windows, and works with vertical tabs. InPrivate results are limited to tabs opened in the same browsing mode. Microsoft says Tab search is not available on Edge mobile, and availability may vary by device, market, and browser version (Microsoft Edge Tab search).

Mozilla Firefox
Use History > Recently Closed Tabs to find an individual page, or History > Recently Closed Windows to restore a whole window. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+T on Mac, to reopen the last closed tab. Firefox can restore tabs and windows from the previous session after a crash or restart, either automatically or when you request it. Recovery can be affected by cleared history, private-browsing settings, extensions, update changes, or damaged session data (Mozilla Support: Restore previous session).
If what disappeared was a tab group, check Firefox’s tab-list controls for saved and closed groups, or search browsing history for the group’s tabs. Firefox tab groups are local and do not sync through Firefox Sync; groups in a private window are deleted when that window closes (Mozilla Support: Tab groups in Firefox).

Safari on Mac
Open the History menu and choose Recently Closed, Reopen Last Closed Tab, Reopen Last Closed Window, or Reopen All Windows from Last Session, as appropriate. The keyboard shortcut Command+Shift+T reopens the last closed tab; using it again can step back through recently closed items. Safari’s history can retain visited websites for as long as a year, according to Apple, but that is not a guarantee that a particular tab or session can be restored (Apple Support: Go back to websites you already visited in Safari on Mac).
Safari on iPhone or iPad
Open Safari’s All Tabs view, then touch and hold the New Tab button. Choose the recently closed tab you want to reopen. Apple documents this interaction for both iPhone and iPad; the visible controls can vary with the tab-bar layout (Apple Support: Open and close tabs in Safari on iPhone; Apple Support: Open and close tabs in Safari on iPad).

Find a tab on another device
Chrome
On Android, Google’s tab-search guidance says that results can include tabs from other devices when you are signed in and Sync is on. If the relevant tab group does not appear, check those account and sync settings before concluding it is unavailable (Google Chrome Help: Manage tabs in Chrome on Android).
Safari with iCloud Tabs
For Safari tabs open on another Apple device, enable Safari in iCloud on each device and sign in with the same Apple Account. Apple lists additional account and operating-system conditions in its setup guide (Apple Support: Set up and use iCloud Tabs). On Mac, the list of pages open on other devices does not show private tabs or windows (Apple Support: See the web pages open on your other devices in Safari on Mac).

If the tab still does not appear
- Try the window-level option. If an entire window disappeared, use the browser’s recently closed windows or reopen-session command instead of repeatedly restoring individual tabs.
- Search history. If the tab is not in the recently closed list, look for the page title or a distinctive part of its address in browsing history.
- Consider private browsing and sync. Private tabs may be excluded from history or cross-device lists, and cross-device recovery depends on the browser’s sync setup.
- Account for session data. If the browser’s session or history data has been cleared or is unavailable, its built-in recovery options may no longer contain the page. The browser help pages describe recovery routes, not guaranteed recovery in every case.
