If you uninstalled an app from a Google Pixel, reinstall it from the Google Play Store: open Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Manage apps & device > Manage, set the filter to This device and Not installed if necessary, select the app, and tap Install. If the app was preinstalled and merely disabled, choose Enable instead.
Use the Google Account that originally downloaded or purchased the app. Reinstalling puts the app back, but it does not guarantee that its former local data, settings, or game progress will return.

Before you start: identify what happened to the app
On Android, an app can be absent for two different reasons. An app you removed is uninstalled and normally shows an Install button in Google Play. A preinstalled app that was switched off remains on the phone but is inactive; Google Play or the app settings will offer Enable instead.
The procedure below applies to apps installed through Google Play on a Pixel phone. The exact app listing can depend on whether the app still supports your Pixel model and Android version.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro XL; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Restore an uninstalled app from the Pixel
Use Google Play’s current management screen
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Pixel.
- Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Manage apps & device, then tap Manage.
- Review the apps shown. If the app is not visible, tap the device filter at the top and choose This device > Not installed.
- Select the missing app from the list and tap Install.
Google documents this flow in its Reinstall & re-enable apps guidance. The list can contain apps previously obtained on the account even though they are not currently installed on this Pixel.
What you should see after tapping Install
Google Play downloads the app and places its icon back in the launcher when installation finishes. The time and download size vary by app and connection, so an immediate icon may not appear while the installation is still pending. Open the app from its Play Store page or from the launcher once the installation completes.
Re-enable a preinstalled app instead of reinstalling it
If the app came with the Pixel or was otherwise preinstalled, it may have been disabled rather than deleted. In the same Manage apps & device list, select it and tap Enable when that button is offered. Enabling turns the existing app back on; it is not the same operation as downloading an uninstalled app.

Choosing the wrong button can explain a confusing result: Install is for an app no longer installed, while Enable is for an app that remains on the phone but has been turned off.

If the deleted app is not listed
Check the account before changing anything else
Previous downloads and purchases are associated with the Google Account used to obtain them. Tap the Play Store profile icon and verify that you are signed in with that account. A different account can make a previously installed app appear to be missing, and it can also make a paid app look as though you need to buy it again.
Google says an app bought on Google Play can be reinstalled on compatible Android devices signed in to the same account without paying again. That entitlement does not override compatibility rules: an app may be unavailable if its developer no longer supports the Pixel or Android version.
Use the Not installed filter
The default management view may emphasize apps currently installed. Tap the filter at the top of the Manage screen and select This device followed by Not installed. This is the key way to surface an app that is absent from the phone but associated with the selected account.

If the app still does not appear after selecting the correct account and filter, compatibility may be the reason. Google’s reinstall guidance qualifies availability by compatible device, so the absence of an install option does not prove that the app or purchase was erased.

What to do if Google Play asks you to pay again
Do not complete a second purchase until you have checked the Play Store account. Switch to the Google Account that originally downloaded or purchased the app, then return to Manage apps & device and the Not installed filter. Google’s account-based entitlement is what allows a compatible purchased app to be installed again without another charge.
If the app remains unavailable on that account, check whether the Pixel is compatible. A payment prompt can reflect an account mismatch or a compatibility limitation rather than a loss of the original purchase. Google’s official explanation of reinstalling on another Android device is available in its Reinstall apps on a new or another device guide.
Install the app from a computer
Google also provides a browser-based route. It is useful when navigating the Play Store on the phone is inconvenient, but you still need to sign in with the account that owns the app and select the correct Pixel.

- On a computer, go to play.google.com and sign in if prompted.
- Find the app you want to restore.
- Choose the available action: Install for an uninstalled app, Installed when it is already present, or Enable when it has been disabled.
- When Google Play asks where to install it, select your Pixel from the device list.
- Choose Install and wait for Google Play to send the installation to the phone.
The browser route and its Install, Installed, and Enable choices are described in Google’s Android phone and tablet instructions. If the Pixel does not appear as a destination, verify that the browser is signed in to the same Google Account used on the phone.
Install versus Enable: a quick diagnosis
| What happened | Button to use | What the action does |
|---|---|---|
| The app was uninstalled from the Pixel | Install | Downloads the app again from Google Play. |
| A preinstalled app was switched off | Enable | Turns the existing app back on. |
| The app is not listed for the selected account or device | No applicable button yet | Check the Google Account, select This device > Not installed, and consider compatibility. |
| The app is already on the Pixel | Installed in the browser view | Confirms that Google Play considers it installed; look for the icon or open the app listing. |
What reinstalling restores—and what it may not
Google’s instructions explain how to install or enable the application. They do not promise restoration of the app’s previous local data, preferences, accounts, downloads, or progress.
Whether that information returns depends on the app. An app that synchronized information to its own account or backed it up may restore it after you sign in. Data stored only on the phone may not return after the app was removed. The Play Store’s successful installation is therefore not proof that the app will reopen exactly as it did before deletion.
How to set expectations for common data types
- Cloud-synced content: may reappear when the app’s own account is restored, if that service retained it.
- Local settings: may be reset because reinstalling does not establish that old on-device files were preserved.
- Game or project progress: depends on whether the particular app synchronized or backed up progress.
- Offline downloads: often need to be downloaded again by the app.
These outcomes are app-specific. Neither the Play Store reinstall screen nor Google’s procedural pages guarantees recovery of any particular data set.

The app is absent from the list
- Open the Play Store profile menu and confirm the original Google Account.
- Return to Manage apps & device > Manage.
- Set the filter to This device > Not installed.
- Search the resulting list for the app.
- If it is still unavailable, treat device compatibility as the next possibility rather than purchasing it again.
You see Enable, not Install
Select Enable. The phone is reporting that the app is disabled, so downloading a second copy is not the appropriate operation.

You see a purchase screen
Stop and check the account used for the original download or purchase. Sign in with that account and repeat the management-screen steps. Google’s no-second-payment provision applies to compatible devices and the same account; it is not a blanket guarantee for every device or version.
The app installs but its old information is missing
Separate the installation problem from the data problem. The Play Store has completed its part when the app is installed. Recovery of settings or progress then depends on the app’s own backup or synchronization system, and Google’s reinstall instructions do not promise that recovery.
Why older instructions may look different
Search results and community answers may tell you to open a Play Store section called Library. A 2021 Google Android Community answer uses that historical wording in response to the question how to restore a deleted app. Google’s current official Android instructions use Manage apps & device and the Not installed filter instead, so follow the labels visible in the current Play Store.

Preventing avoidable loss next time
Before removing an app that contains important work or progress, check whether the app offers its own account-based synchronization or backup. Keep in mind that reinstalling later is primarily an application download; it is not a universal data-recovery operation.
If you already removed the app, the safest order is to restore it through Google Play first, open it, and then sign in to the app’s own account if it uses one. This gives the app an opportunity to retrieve any information it had synchronized.
Quick Recap
Complete decision path
- Open Google Play Store and confirm the Google Account shown by the profile icon.
- Go to Manage apps & device > Manage.
- Choose This device > Not installed if the app is not in the initial list.
- Select the app.
- Tap Install if it was uninstalled, or Enable if it was disabled.
- If no action is offered, verify the account and consider whether the app supports the Pixel.
- After installation, treat the app’s data and progress as a separate issue governed by that app’s backup or synchronization behavior.
