Once power and internet are back, open your encoder, verify its YouTube server URL and stream key, and start sending the radio feed. Then check the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room: a scheduled broadcast may require you to wait for its preview and click Go live, unless auto-start is enabled. A reboot does not guarantee that the same broadcast resumes automatically.
Recover the stream in order
A power cut can interrupt several separate steps: the PC must start, the network must reconnect, the encoder must run, and YouTube must receive and publish the feed. Confirm each one rather than assuming that a running computer means the broadcast is live.

- Confirm Windows and the network are ready. Let Windows finish starting, then verify that the PC has internet access.
- Open your encoder. OBS is one example. Load the profile or scene used for the radio stream, and check that the intended audio and any video or still image are present.
- Verify YouTube connection settings. Check the YouTube server URL and stream key configured in the encoder. YouTube describes the stream key as similar to a password and address for the stream; keep it private. A power cut alone is not documented as a reason the key must be replaced. YouTube’s live stream settings explain saved settings and keys.
- Start the encoder output. Starting the encoder sends the feed; it does not by itself establish that YouTube has made the broadcast public.
- Check Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview and click Go live if the broadcast has not started. If auto-start is enabled for that stream, the encoder can start the broadcast instead. These are optional settings, so check the specific broadcast configuration. - Verify playback and health. Check the preview, audio, video, and stream health in Live Control Room. Do not treat “encoder running” as proof that viewers can see or hear the stream.
If the encoder will not connect
Work through the connection before changing unrelated settings. YouTube’s live stream troubleshooting advises updating the encoder with a stream key copied from Live Control Room if the encoder reports a start error.

- Network is unavailable: confirm the PC is online and the encoder can reach the internet. A network disruption can break a stream, according to YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Key or destination error: compare the encoder’s server URL and stream key with the current settings in Live Control Room. If YouTube reports an encoder start error, copy the key from Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Feed reaches YouTube but looks or sounds wrong: inspect the Live Control Room preview and encoder output. Confirm the intended audio source is active and the video output is the one configured for the radio stream.
- Unstable stream health: check upload capacity against the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; this is platform guidance, not a guarantee against interruptions. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Does the old broadcast continue after reconnecting?
Do not assume that restarting Windows or the encoder resumes the exact same YouTube broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow describes starting the feed, checking the preview, and going live; it does not promise that a power-cut reconnection preserves one continuous event. After recovery, check what appears in YouTube Studio, including the broadcast and any archive.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but that does not establish that an interrupted stream will remain one continuous broadcast or archive. See YouTube’s encoder workflow.
Can Windows and OBS restart streaming automatically?
Possibly, but treat it as a chain of separate configurations rather than a single resume switch. Whether a PC powers on when AC returns depends on its firmware and model. Whether Windows launches an encoder, and whether that encoder starts sending the right feed, depends on separate settings. A migrated Microsoft Q&A thread contains conflicting community answers about power restoration; consult the PC or motherboard maker for the exact firmware option and behavior. Choose a recovery approach

Whatever approach you use, YouTube recommends upload bandwidth above the total stream bitrate, including primary and backup streams where relevant. Its current encoder guidance varies by resolution, frame rate, and codec: for example, it recommends 6 Mbps for H.264 at 720p60 and 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. These are platform recommendations, not universal settings; choose from the current encoder settings and bitrate guidance for your actual output.
