How to Restart a YouTube 24/7 Live Stream Automatically After a Power Cut in India

You can make a YouTube stream recover with less manual intervention, but no single OBS or YouTube setting guarantees that a public broadcast will resume after a full power cut. Power must return to the computer and network, the encoder and source must restart, and the YouTube broadcast must still be active. For prerecorded video, a cloud service can avoid dependence on a local streaming computer; for a live camera or on-site production, you need a recovery plan for the equipment at the site.

What must recover after a power cut

A YouTube stream has several separate links in its recovery chain. A stream key and stream URL connect an encoder to YouTube; they do not provide power or turn a computer back on. OBS automatic reconnect can help when OBS is still running and its network output drops, but it cannot reboot an unpowered computer. Even when the encoder reconnects, the YouTube broadcast may have ended or may no longer be public.

  • Power: The computer, router/modem and any required source equipment must either stay powered or restart when mains power returns.
  • Local production: The computer must boot, the camera or other source must be available, and OBS or the hardware encoder must launch with the right settings.
  • Network and ingest: Internet access must return, and the encoder must send to the intended YouTube stream URL and key.
  • Broadcast event: The YouTube event must still be able to accept the feed and be live for viewers.

Plan for the failure you actually want to withstand: a short internet interruption, a brief power dip, a long outage, or a broadcast event that has ended are different problems.

Set up a local PC and OBS to recover

1. Prepare the YouTube stream

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or select the intended stream and copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS or your hardware encoder. Keep the key private: it lets an encoder send video to your YouTube account.
  2. Review the event’s auto-start and auto-stop settings. These controls let the encoder start or stop a broadcast, but they do not power up equipment. When reusing stream settings, check these options again because they are copied with the settings.
  3. If you schedule broadcasts, note how the event behaves when the encoder disconnects. A scheduled broadcast’s state is separate from the encoder’s connection, and it may eventually end after receiving no stream for multiple hours. Check the event in Live Control Room after a long interruption rather than assuming a reconnect restored it.

YouTube’s encoder setup and broadcast controls are described in its encoder streaming guide.

SEVENSTAR AR 5000W Heavy Duty Voltage Reglator/Stabilizer with Built-in Step Up/Down Voltage Transformer
  • This CE certified 5000-Watt stabilizer/transformer can convert 110/120V to 220/240V or convert 220/240V to 110/120V. Compatible with 50Hz/60Hz
  • It can regulate input voltage from AC 75V-130V or 180V-260V to output voltage: AC 110V+-4-percent or AC 220V + - 4-percent. Meter on front shows exact output voltage
  • This stabilizer can regulate fluctuating voltage into general voltage output. Voltage stabilizer good for countries with unstable voltage supply
  • Two universal outlets for 220V accept plugs from most countries. Three 110V outlets for 2 or 3 pin USA plugs. On/off switch. Indicator lamp
  • Insulated power cord wired with a European shucko plug. Heavy metal casing. Fuse protected with fuse protected with built in circuit breaker

2. Enable OBS automatic reconnect

In OBS, open Settings > Advanced > Automatically Reconnect and enable the option. OBS community troubleshooting guidance recommends this for output interruptions while OBS remains open. It is not a power-recovery feature: a computer that has shut down cannot run OBS’s reconnect logic.

3. Plan power and restart behavior

  • For short outages: Put the computer and the networking equipment needed to reach YouTube on a UPS. Estimate the combined load and the duration you need before choosing one; battery runtime depends on both. There is no safe universal capacity recommendation without the equipment’s power draw and required runtime.
  • For outages longer than the UPS can bridge: Check the manual for the exact PC or motherboard for a setting that powers on after AC is restored. Availability and menu names differ by model; do not assume a setting exists.
  • For unattended startup: Configure automatic login and startup applications only if suitable for your security setup. Verify that the source and encoder actually become available after boot; an OBS window launching is not enough if the scene, device or stream settings fail.

A UPS can bridge only an outage within its available runtime and load. An Indian court-streaming procurement document includes a UPS as part of one installation, but that project specification is not a home sizing guide.

4. Test the whole chain

Before relying on the setup, test a planned computer restart and a network interruption. If safe, test a brief power interruption as well. Use representative video and audio, check your actual upload capacity, and watch YouTube’s stream health. YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps; these are general recommendations, not India-specific guarantees. Its encoder settings guide provides bitrate guidance by resolution, frame rate and codec. Use settings your real connection can sustain.

What to check when power returns

  1. Confirm the router/modem has restarted and the internet connection is working.
  2. Confirm the computer booted and the camera or other source is available.
  3. Confirm OBS or the hardware encoder is running and sending to the correct stream URL and key.
  4. Open YouTube Live Control Room and check both stream health and the broadcast event’s status.
  5. Open the public watch page from a separate device or browser session. An OBS “streaming” indicator alone does not prove viewers can watch.
  6. If the broadcast ended or is not public, use the current Live Control Room controls to select or start the appropriate event. An encoder reconnect cannot by itself guarantee that an ended event becomes public again.

Choose the recovery approach that fits the stream

For prerecorded video that can be hosted remotely, a cloud service avoids relying on a streaming PC at the site. For a live camera or locally produced programme, the source and production equipment still need to recover where they are installed.

Approach Best fit What must recover Main limitation
StreamNeo, a cloud option for uploaded prerecorded video Uploaded video or playlists intended for a YouTube 24/7 stream The cloud service and internet connection It plays uploaded videos; it does not recover an on-site live camera or production.
Local PC and OBS with auto-reconnect Live camera, scenes or production controlled on site Computer, source, network and YouTube event Reconnect does not boot an unpowered PC or guarantee the event remains active.
Local PC plus UPS Short local power dips UPS must carry the encoder and network load for the outage duration Battery runtime is limited and depends on load.

Decide based on outage duration, whether the content is live-camera or prerecorded, how much production control is required, which devices must stay powered, and whether the YouTube event remains active. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for prerecorded 24/7 streaming; that is a different arrangement from restoring a local camera and encoder after a site power failure.

Or let it run in the cloud

For prerecorded YouTube content, StreamNeo lets you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. It also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and prerecorded video, not a live camera. See StreamNeo or plan details, then start the free day.
