This is different from restarting the computer or restoring the monitor’s factory settings.
Restart the monitor safely
- Check the basics first. Wake the computer if it may be asleep, confirm the monitor has power, and make sure the video cable is secure at both ends. A lit power indicator with a blank screen can point to the signal, input, or source rather than a monitor fault. ViewSonic’s no-display guidance and ASUS’s troubleshooting guide recommend checking these possibilities.
- Turn it off and back on. Use the monitor’s power button. The exact controls vary by model; consult its manual if needed.
- Power-cycle it if the issue remains. Turn the monitor off and unplug its power cable. ViewSonic’s general instructions say to wait 15–30 seconds, reconnect power, and turn the monitor on. Follow your model’s manual if it gives different directions. ViewSonic’s power-cycle instructions
Know which kind of reset you need

If the screen is still blank, check the signal path
Confirm the selected input
Open the monitor’s OSD and select the input used by the connected computer. A monitor can be powered on but display nothing if it is set to a different input. MSI’s troubleshooting guidance

Check both ends of the video cable. If you are using a dock, adapter, or converter, bypass it temporarily and connect the computer directly to the monitor where possible. Try another compatible cable if one is available; replacing a cable makes sense only if inspection or a swap points to a connection problem. Check that the cable and ports match the devices. Test another device or display
If practical, connect the monitor to another computer or test the computer with another display. This can help isolate whether the problem follows the monitor, cable, or source device. ViewSonic’s no-display guide
When to restart the computer
A monitor power cycle does not reboot Windows or reset its graphics driver. If the connection and input checks do not help and the computer may have a graphics-driver problem, Microsoft says Windows users can press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B to try resetting the graphics driver. When basic troubleshooting is not enough
A blank screen does not identify one cause on its own. The computer may be asleep, the wrong input may be selected, a cable or adapter may be faulty, or the computer may not be sending a usable signal. If the monitor has no power indicator, check its power connection and outlet; persistent intermittent power can also warrant checking the cable and adapter. If the problem continues after reasonable cross-tests, contact the monitor maker’s support service. LG’s intermittent-power guidance
