If the light never shows that pattern or the reset will not complete, Apple’s documented next step is to contact Apple Support.
What the Studio Buds+ reset actually requires
This procedure is specifically for Beats Studio Buds+. The system button used for the reset is on the charging case; there is no separate reset sequence that requires pressing a button on each earbud.

- Both earbuds must be inside the charging case.
- The case lid must remain open while you reset.
- You need to hold the case system button for 15 seconds, not merely tap it.
- The release cue is a red-and-white flashing status light.
- Afterward, the previous Bluetooth connection is not ready for immediate use; pair the earbuds again.
Keep the phone, tablet or computer nearby, and make sure Bluetooth is enabled before you begin the re-pairing step. If the device you use for pairing has a pending operating-system update, install it first. Apple recommends current software when troubleshooting connection problems.

First confirm that you have the right model
Beats has several earbuds with similar cases and controls. The instructions in this article apply to Beats Studio Buds+, not the original Beats Studio Buds or another Beats model. Check the model name in the device’s Bluetooth list, in the Beats app if you use Android, or on the product packaging and documentation. A case-button sequence from a different model may use another timing or light pattern.

How to reset Beats Studio Buds+
- Put both earbuds in the case. Make sure each earbud is seated in its charging position. Close and reopen the lid if necessary so both are recognized by the case.
- Leave the lid open. The case must stay open throughout the button hold.
- Locate the system button. Use the single system button on the charging case, rather than pressing either earbud.
- Press and hold for 15 seconds. Keep steady pressure for the full interval. A short press only controls pairing behavior; it does not perform the reset.
- Watch the status light. Release the button when the light flashes red and white. That flashing sequence is Apple’s published confirmation that the reset has been triggered.
- Prepare to pair again. Leave the earbuds in the open case until you start the Bluetooth setup on your host device.
If the light does not flash red and white after a complete 15-second hold, do not assume the reset worked. Check the case and earbud seating, then repeat the sequence once. Persistent failure is a reason to use Apple Support rather than repeatedly holding the button or trying undocumented combinations.
Pair the reset earbuds again
Resetting is only half of the recovery. The earbuds need to be placed in pairing mode and selected from the host device’s Bluetooth settings. With the earbuds in the open case, press and hold the case system button until the Beats are ready to pair, then choose the Studio Buds+ entry in the device list.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and select Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off.
- Keep the case open with both earbuds inside, then press and hold the case system button to make the Studio Buds+ discoverable.
- Under the list of available devices, tap the Beats Studio Buds+ name.
- Complete any pairing prompt shown on screen and play a short audio clip to verify the connection.
If the old entry remains in the Bluetooth list, use the unpairing instructions below before attempting the new connection.

Android phone or tablet
- Open the device’s Settings app and go to Bluetooth or Connected devices, depending on the Android interface.
- Enable Bluetooth and choose the command to pair a new device if the scan does not start automatically.
- With the case open and both earbuds inside, press and hold the case system button until the Studio Buds+ appear as an available device.
- Tap the Beats entry and approve the pairing request.
- Start audio playback and check that sound comes through the earbuds rather than the phone speaker.
Android firmware management is handled through the Beats app. Pairing itself still takes place in Android’s Bluetooth settings.

Windows, Mac or another Bluetooth device
Open that device’s Bluetooth settings, enable Bluetooth, and choose its option for adding or discovering a device. Put the Studio Buds+ into pairing mode with the open case and system button, then select the Beats entry. Menu names differ between computers, televisions and other Bluetooth hosts, so use the host’s own Bluetooth interface rather than looking for a Beats-specific reset menu.
Remove an old Bluetooth record before pairing
A reset can leave a stale record on the phone or tablet. If the device keeps trying to connect to an obsolete entry, remove that record first.
iPhone or iPad: Forget This Device
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
- Find the Studio Buds+ in My Devices and tap the information button beside the name.
- Select Forget This Device, then confirm.
- Return to the Bluetooth list and pair the earbuds as a new device while the case is open.
Apple notes that choosing Forget This Device removes the Beats from devices signed in to the same Apple Account. If another Apple device still shows the old record, allow a moment for that change to synchronize before pairing again.
Android: Unpair
- Open Settings > Bluetooth or Connected devices.
- Tap the settings control beside the Beats Studio Buds+ name.
- Choose Unpair and confirm.
- Start a fresh scan and select the earbuds after putting them into pairing mode.
On computers and other hosts, use the equivalent command such as Remove, Forget or Delete device, then run a new Bluetooth scan.

Keep firmware and host software current
Connection troubleshooting can fail when the host device or earbuds are running older software. Update the phone, tablet or computer before repeating unpair-and-pair steps.
Using an Apple device
Beats says Studio Buds+ firmware updates are delivered automatically when the earbuds are used with an Apple device that is connected to Wi-Fi and running current operating-system software. Keep the earbuds in their case near the device, leave Bluetooth enabled and allow time for the update process. The support interface may not display a manual “check now” button for this automatic path.
Using Android
Install or open the Beats app, connect the Studio Buds+, and use the app’s firmware update control when one is offered. Keep the phone connected to the internet and avoid closing the app or moving the earbuds out of Bluetooth range during the update. If no update appears, confirm that the earbuds are actually connected in the app rather than merely listed as a remembered device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix the most common pairing and connection symptoms
The status light never flashes red and white
Verify that both earbuds are in the case and that the lid is open. Reseat each earbud so its charging contacts meet the case, then repeat one uninterrupted 15-second hold on the case system button. If the case has little or no power, connect it to a charger and allow it to charge before trying again. The published reset instructions do not require buying a replacement cable or case; first use the charging equipment supplied with the product.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
If a correctly seated pair, an open lid and a full button hold still produce no red-and-white flashing, stop treating the problem as a Bluetooth menu issue. Apple’s reset guide says, “If you’re having issues resetting your Beats, contact Apple Support.”
The earbuds do not appear in the Bluetooth list
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on at the host device.
- Move the case close to the phone or computer and temporarily disconnect other nearby Bluetooth accessories.
- Remove the old Studio Buds+ record using Forget This Device or Unpair.
- With both earbuds in the open case, hold the system button to re-enter pairing mode, then start a new scan.
- Restart the host device if its Bluetooth list remains frozen or empty.
Do not select a similarly named remembered entry if a fresh Studio Buds+ device does not appear; remove the stale entry and scan again.
The phone says it is connected, but there is no sound
Check the active audio output on the phone or computer and select the Studio Buds+ instead of the built-in speaker or another headset. Raise the media volume on both the host and the earbuds, pause and restart playback, and test a second application. A successful Bluetooth connection does not guarantee that the host has routed media audio to the Beats.

Audio cuts in and out
For the support question “The audio keeps disconnecting or cuts in and out, how do I troubleshoot?”, begin with the host rather than resetting repeatedly. Keep the case and earbuds within normal Bluetooth range, close unused Bluetooth connections, and install available host and Beats firmware updates. Then remove the old pairing record and create a fresh pairing. Test with the phone nearby and with another audio app to distinguish a single-app problem from a Bluetooth link problem.

Connection drops after the earbuds initially work
Charge the case and both earbuds, confirm that each earbud is seated correctly when stored, and check whether the drop occurs only when one earbud is removed. Update the host software and Beats firmware, then perform the reset and re-pair sequence once. If disconnections continue across more than one current host device, document which devices and operating systems were tested before contacting support; that information helps separate a host-specific fault from an earbud or case fault.
Only one earbud connects
Place both earbuds in the case together, close and reopen the lid, and verify that each one is charging. Remove the existing Bluetooth record, reset the pair using the case button, and pair again as a single Studio Buds+ device. If one earbud never appears to charge or the problem returns immediately after a successful reset, the symptom may involve charging or hardware rather than the Bluetooth record alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What a reset can and cannot solve
The reset clears the current setup sufficiently for a new pairing and is the official first-line action when Studio Buds+ will not connect. It can resolve a corrupted or conflicting Bluetooth relationship, a device that remains stuck on an old pairing state, or a case that will not enter the expected pairing behavior.

A reset does not, by itself, prove that the case is charging, that both earbuds have power, that the host’s Bluetooth hardware is working, or that a damaged earbud has been repaired. Those possibilities require the charging, software and cross-device checks described above.
A platform-by-platform view
| Host platform | Where pairing happens | How firmware updates are handled | How to clear an old record |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | Settings > Bluetooth | Automatic delivery when the Studio Buds+ are used with an Apple device on Wi-Fi running current operating-system software | Settings > Bluetooth > information button > Forget This Device |
| Android | Android Bluetooth or Connected devices settings | Beats app | Bluetooth device settings beside the Beats name > Unpair |
| Computer or other Bluetooth host | The host’s own Bluetooth add or discover-device interface | Not stated for these hosts in the published guidance | The host’s Remove, Forget or Delete device command |
The menus can change with operating-system updates and manufacturer interfaces. Use the closest current label on your device while keeping the sequence—remove the old record, place the case in pairing mode, then select the Beats—unchanged.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact support
Contact Apple Support when the case will not produce the red-and-white reset indication after the documented procedure, when the earbuds cannot be reset despite adequate charge and correct seating, or when the same failure persists across current host devices after a clean re-pair. Include the Studio Buds+ model, the host device and operating-system version, whether both earbuds charge, the exact status-light behavior and the point at which connection fails.
That information is more useful than repeating the button hold indefinitely. Apple’s official support hub frames the relevant help topics as “I can’t connect to my Beats, how do I troubleshoot?”, “The audio keeps disconnecting or cuts in and out, how do I troubleshoot?” and “How do I reset my Beats?” Use those descriptions when searching support so the case is routed to the matching troubleshooting flow.
