Before resetting an MPC One, back up important projects, programs, and samples to external storage. The documented Reset path is separate from firmware recovery: if an update failed, follow Akai’s firmware instructions instead. Available sources do not establish that Reset reinstalls firmware or restores factory content.
Back up your projects and samples first
Akai says MPC One projects and user files can be transferred using USB or SD storage. Before resetting, save anything important to external storage and make sure the files you need are there. Keep a separate backup if losing a project would be costly.

A third-party Sweetwater guide, last updated February 10, 2020, documents this navigation path. Firmware menus can change, so check the current MPC One manual if the labels on your unit differ.
- Connect a USB or SD storage device to the MPC One.
- From the Main screen, use the Folder icon to select the Programs, Sequences, and samples you want to save, then save them to external storage.
- Eject the storage device safely after the save is complete.

How to use the documented Reset path
Sweetwater documents the following sequence for opening Reset:
- Hold Shift and press Menu.
- Choose Info.
- Press Reset.
- Allow the MPC One to restart.
This is a documented navigation path, not confirmation of how every current firmware version handles user data. The available sources do not establish exactly what Reset clears, whether it restores factory content, or whether it reinstalls the operating system. If those details determine whether you should proceed, consult the manual for your installed firmware before pressing Reset.

If an update failed, use firmware recovery instead
An ordinary Reset and firmware recovery are different actions. Akai’s firmware update walkthrough covers update precautions and manual update mode; it does not say that the ordinary Reset action reinstalls firmware.

- Use the correct power adapter. Akai lists 19V DC, 3.42A for the MPC One in a table that groups MPC X Series, MPC Live Series, and MPC One.
- If updating through a computer, connect directly by USB. Akai advises against hubs, adapters, extenders, and long cables, and recommends disconnecting other USB or MIDI devices.
- Do not use the MPC or power it off while an update is running. Akai warns that an interruption can make recovery difficult, although a failed update is unlikely to damage the MPC and may require a manual update.
MPC One manual update mode
Akai’s walkthrough lists FULL LEVEL + BROWSE + PAD BANK C/G for manual update mode on the MPC One and MPC One+. Confirm the current walkthrough and prepare the update exactly as it instructs before proceeding; do not use a button combination listed for another model.

- Prepare the update using Akai’s current walkthrough.
- Power off the MPC One.
- Hold FULL LEVEL, BROWSE, and PAD BANK C/G while powering it on.
- Keep holding the buttons until the MPC One has fully powered on, then follow Akai’s update instructions.
Firmware releases and supported hardware can change. Check Akai’s MPC release notes and current downloads for the MPC One rather than relying on an old version number.
When not to attempt firmware recovery
Akai advises against using a firmware update to address unrelated problems. If the unit will not power on, shuts down intermittently, or has separate display, audio, or connectivity issues, contact Akai support instead of treating an update as a general repair.

If factory content or expansions are missing
Akai’s FAQ says factory content, expansions, and plugins are available through the owner’s Akai account. Sign in and check the account’s downloads area for the content associated with your device. That availability does not establish that pressing Reset restores deleted factory content or explain how to rebuild all missing internal content. If the account downloads do not resolve the problem, ask Akai support for guidance rather than using an unofficial system image.
