Resetting the Samsung account password restores access to Samsung services; it does not unlock the phone. Account recovery starts in Settings or on Samsung’s account website and requires an available verification method. A forgotten screen lock has separate recovery options, and one may erase the device.
How do I reset my Samsung account password?
Use a Galaxy device or a browser to begin account recovery. The exact screens and verification choices can vary with your region and account settings.

- On a Galaxy device: Open Settings and select your Samsung account. Alternatively, go to Samsung’s account website in a browser.
- Enter your Samsung account ID and choose Forgot password? or the equivalent recovery option.
- Select one of the verification methods Samsung offers for your account, such as your primary email, recovery email, recovery phone, or security question. You can use only methods that were configured or verified beforehand.
- Complete verification, then follow Samsung’s prompt to set a new password. Depending on the account and recovery flow, Samsung may offer a choice about staying signed in or signing out of other devices.
Samsung describes recovery methods and account recovery in its Samsung account password recovery guide. If none of the offered methods is accessible, do not assume there is a universal verification bypass.
If you cannot access your recovery email or phone
If you cannot access both the email address and phone number linked to the account, Samsung UK directs users to Samsung Customer Support. Be prepared to explain that you cannot use the account’s registered recovery details.

Changing a Samsung account password you still know
If you can sign in and want to change your password proactively, Samsung Canada documents this Galaxy path: Settings > Samsung account name > Security and privacy > Password. After changing it, the account will be signed out on that Galaxy device; sign back in with the new password. Samsung also notes that two-step verification may be required. The labels or flow may differ by device or region. See Samsung Canada’s account management guidance.
What if I forgot my Samsung phone’s PIN, password, or pattern?
A Samsung account password reset does not replace a forgotten screen lock. Samsung documents two distinct possibilities: trying the previous lock on eligible devices after a recent lock change, or remotely erasing the device as a last resort.

Try the previous screen lock on eligible Galaxy devices
Samsung India says the previous-screen-lock recovery feature applies to Galaxy models running One UI 6.1 or later. After you change a lock, the previous one is retained for 72 hours. If you enter the new lock incorrectly at least five times, a recovery option may appear that lets you try the previous lock. Samsung says there are up to three attempts in this flow; after three incorrect entries, no further attempts are allowed. Availability and screens depend on the model and software version.

Samsung also documents using SmartThings Find’s Erase data function to factory-reset a device when you have forgotten its screen lock and can sign in to the Samsung account. This permanently deletes data on the device, so use it only as a last resort and only if you accept that loss.

- Open SmartThings Find and sign in to the Samsung account associated with the phone.
- Select the device, then choose Erase data and confirm the action.
- If the phone is offline, Samsung says the erasure takes place the next time it goes online.
