“Shogun 2 Remake” is a colloquial description. The current product name used for the PC package is Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition. SEGA describes that edition as an updated and enhanced version of SHOGUN 2 with the released downloadable content included.

Use the exact Steam transaction name
Searching for “Shogun 2 Remake” can make the purchase harder to identify because that is not the official store name. In Steam Support, look for Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition, or for the matching Total War transaction displayed in your account. The Complete Edition is the package associated with the updated PC release and its released downloadable content.
If you own an older SHOGUN 2 license as well as the Complete Edition, do not assume that the two entries will appear identically. Select the transaction that you actually want reviewed. A refund request is tied to a purchase record, so the account and transaction shown on the support page matter more than the wording used in a search engine or video title.

What to have ready before opening Steam Support
- Sign-in access to the Steam account that made the purchase or received the relevant shared-library access.
- The approximate purchase date and the transaction amount, if you need to distinguish multiple Total War purchases.
- A clear description of the reason for the request, especially if the request is outside Steam’s usual eligibility conditions.
- Awareness that Steam counts online, offline, and shared-library playtime when applying its normal playtime test.
- For customers in the EU or UK, whether downloading has started, because statutory withdrawal treatment can differ from the normal Steam refund assessment.
You do not need to find a separate “remake” support page. Valve’s stated route for refund requests is its support site, and the purchase-history page is where the transaction-specific request begins.
Request the refund step by step
- Open Steam Support. Go to help.steampowered.com and sign in with the account that owns the purchase. Valve says all refund requests are handled through this support site.
- Open your account purchase list. From the signed-in support area, choose Account Details, then View purchase history. This is the page Valve identifies for locating a transaction.
- Select the Total War purchase. Choose the entry named Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition, or the corresponding Total War transaction shown on your account. Check the date and item description before continuing so that you do not submit a request against a different Total War purchase.
- Choose the refund or request-help route. Steam presents the available support action for the selected transaction. Select the refund option when it is offered. If the transaction does not fit the normal automated path, choose the request-help or equivalent support route so that you can submit the circumstances for review.
- Select the closest reason and send the request. Pick the reason that most accurately describes the problem, add a concise explanation when Steam provides a text field, and submit. Avoid choosing a reason that does not describe what happened merely because it appears first in the list.
After submission, retain the confirmation email and revisit Steam Support to monitor the request. The cited Valve guidance does not promise a fixed processing time, so the confirmation and support page are the reliable places to check for the decision rather than an assumed deadline.
Steam’s normal refund conditions
Valve’s support FAQ states: “Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any title that is requested within 14 days of purchase and has been played for less than 2 hours (this includes online, offline and shared library playtime).” Those are the standard conditions to check first for the Complete Edition.

The normal test is not limited to launches made while connected to Steam. Valve expressly includes offline and shared-library playtime, so switching modes does not remove recorded usage from the assessment.

When the request is outside the usual window
Missing one of the normal conditions does not make the support form useless. Valve explicitly says that requests outside the stated rule may still be reviewed. Steam is not promising approval in those cases; it is allowing you to submit the circumstances instead of treating the request as impossible.
What to explain
- Identify the transaction and the date shown in purchase history.
- State the recorded playtime as shown by Steam, without rounding it down.
- Describe what prevented a normal request, such as discovering a technical or compatibility problem only after trying the game.
- Explain whether the issue concerns the base game, included downloadable content, or the bundle as a whole.
- For an EU or UK account, state whether the download had started and when you are making the request.
Keep the explanation factual and specific. A request for an exception is a review request, not a way to reset the playtime record or create a new purchase date. Submit the evidence that is available in your account and let Steam decide whether the circumstances justify an exception.
How to choose the support path
If Steam shows a direct refund action, use it and provide the requested reason. If it routes you to a help form instead, complete that form rather than abandoning the request because an automatic approval button is absent. The support interface can evaluate the transaction even when it does not fall neatly inside the normal conditions.
EU and UK customers: the download-start issue
Valve’s EU/UK guidance describes a statutory withdrawal rule that generally ends 14 days after purchase or when downloading starts, whichever is sooner. That rule is distinct from the ordinary Steam refund test and can be affected by the point at which the digital product began downloading.

When submitting from the EU or UK, include the account region and the download status in your explanation if the form allows it. Do not assume that an unused playtime counter alone answers the statutory question, and do not assume that the regional rule changes the transaction name you must select. You still begin with the Complete Edition entry in purchase history.
What the Complete Edition bundle means for your licenses
SEGA’s FAQ says the original SHOGUN 2 remains playable for existing owners and that the Complete Edition bundles the game’s DLC. That information identifies what the package contains, but it does not guarantee the exact account result after a refund.
Steam may need to evaluate the Complete Edition as a bundled purchase rather than as an isolated base-game license. The cited guidance does not promise whether refunding that transaction will remove, retain, or otherwise change every original-game and DLC license on every account. Before submitting, note which items you already owned and which arrived with the Complete Edition. In the request, ask Steam Support to confirm the license effect for your account if that distinction matters.

Existing ownership is relevant context, not a guarantee that the refund will affect only the newer package. Select the actual Complete Edition transaction, describe the earlier ownership in the explanation, and wait for Steam’s account-specific response. Do not infer the outcome from the fact that the original game remains playable for existing owners; that statement does not establish what happens after a refunded bundle is removed.

If the DLC is the reason for the request
Say that directly and identify whether the problem is with one item or with the Complete Edition as a whole. Because the package includes released DLC, support may need to assess the bundle’s licenses together. The transaction history and the support reply are more authoritative for your account than a general forum answer.
What to do after you submit
- Save the confirmation. Keep the email or on-screen confirmation associated with the request, including the transaction description.
- Monitor Steam Support. Return to the support site and check the request status or any follow-up question. The available guidance does not set a universal decision time.
- Answer follow-up questions precisely. If support asks about purchase timing, playtime, downloading, or bundle ownership, use the values shown in your account rather than estimates.
- Check the account after a decision. If the request is approved, verify the result in your Steam library and purchase history. If the Complete Edition contained DLC or you owned an earlier SHOGUN 2 license, confirm which entries remain before assuming the account changed in a particular way.
A support decision is tied to the submitted transaction. Keep the confirmation until you have verified the practical result in the account, especially when the purchase was a bundle.

The game is not listed under the phrase “Shogun 2 Remake”
Search the purchase list for Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition or the matching Total War transaction. “Remake” is not the official product name used for this PC edition, so a literal search for that phrase may not find the purchase.
You cannot find purchase history
Make sure you are signed in to the account that made the purchase, then use the support navigation Account Details > View purchase history. If several accounts are used on the same computer, sign out and check the account associated with the receipt rather than the account currently open in the Steam client.

The recorded playtime is higher than expected
Valve counts online, offline, and shared-library playtime. Compare the recorded value with the normal threshold before submitting, and include the account’s value if you are asking for an exception. Changing how the game was launched does not change the playtime already recorded.
The automatic refund button is missing
Use the available request-help route for that transaction. Valve says out-of-policy requests can still be submitted for review, so the absence of an automatic option is a reason to provide the circumstances, not a reason to invent a different purchase or product name.
You are concerned about losing the original game or DLC
Identify the Complete Edition as a bundle and state what you owned before buying it. The published guidance does not guarantee a single outcome for every account’s licenses. Ask Steam Support to clarify the effect before relying on an assumption about the original game or included DLC.

Include the region and whether downloading started. Valve’s statutory guidance uses the earlier of the applicable time limit or download start, so that detail may be material even when your playtime is low.
A practical decision checklist
- Is the transaction listed as Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition or an equivalent Total War entry?
- Are you signed in to the purchasing Steam account?
- Have you opened Account Details > View purchase history?
- Does the request fit Valve’s standard purchase-age and playtime conditions?
- If it does not, have you written a factual explanation for review?
- Have you considered online, offline, and shared-library playtime?
- If you are in the EU or UK, have you noted whether downloading began?
