If that option is missing or the automated flow does not resolve the issue, use the PlayStation online assistant or contact PlayStation Support. Eligibility depends on what you bought, how long ago you bought it, and whether you downloaded, streamed, launched, or used the content.
The rules below summarize PlayStation’s U.S. cancellation policy and support guidance. Your account’s country or region controls the policy that applies, and local law may provide additional rights.

Before you request: identify the problem
“The price changed” and “the purchase was wrong” are different cases. A later sale or permanent price reduction normally does not create a U.S. refund entitlement by itself. A purchase can still qualify if it independently meets the cancellation policy, such as the applicable 14-day and non-download conditions.

Under the U.S. Terms of Service, PlayStation may contact you so you can reconfirm the order at the correct price or cancel it. If PlayStation cannot reach you, it says the order will be canceled automatically. That is not the same as asking for the difference after a legitimate purchase later goes on sale.

If you do not recognize the charge, treat it as a possible account or payment-security issue rather than an ordinary change-of-mind request. Check Transaction History and secure the account before deciding what to submit.
Use the fastest request path
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that made the purchase and open Transaction History.
- Select the transaction in question. Review the title, date, amount, and account that made it.
- Choose Request Refund if the option is shown.
- Answer the on-screen questions and submit the request.
- Save the confirmation details. If the button is unavailable or the flow fails, use the PlayStation online assistant or contact PlayStation Support.
Have your Online ID, sign-in email address, and the name of the purchase ready. A purchase may be eligible for a request through Transaction History even when a different category of purchase has different rules.
Eligibility by purchase type
Do not apply the game refund rule to every item. PlayStation uses different tests for games and add-ons, consumables, subscriptions, pre-orders, wallet funds, vouchers, and online ID changes.

Games, DLC, and season passes
For a U.S. full game, add-on, or season pass, the ordinary checklist has two parts: submit the request within 14 days of purchase, and do not download or stream the content. Starting a download or streaming session can therefore change the result even if you are still inside the 14-day window.
What counts as a possible exception
PlayStation’s guide notes an exception for faulty content. The guide does not turn every disappointment, compatibility question, or preference change into a guaranteed refund; explain the actual fault clearly and follow Support’s instructions. Consumer protections can also depend on the law where your account is registered.
What to do if you have not used the content
Do not launch the game merely to check whether it works if you intend to seek a refund. Keep the request tied to the original transaction, and include the purchase name and date when Support asks for details.
In-game consumables and virtual items
Consumables include virtual currency, skins, boosts, and similar items. The U.S. guide lists three conditions: request within 14 days, purchase through PlayStation Store, and no game launch after the purchase.

Why launching the game matters
An item bought outside gameplay may not be delivered until the next time the game is launched. Launching the game after that purchase can affect eligibility, even if you did not intentionally spend the currency. Items bought during gameplay are delivered immediately, so the timing and delivery state can differ between two otherwise similar purchases.
If a child or another family member made the purchase, record which account launched the game and when. That information helps Support distinguish an unused transaction from one that was delivered or consumed.
Subscriptions: first payment, trial days, and cancellation
A subscription request is judged differently from a game request. In the U.S., the request must be made within 14 days of signing up and concern the first payment, not a later recurring fee. PlayStation may reduce the refund to account for subscription use.
How a free trial changes the deadline
Free-trial time is included in the 14-day period. PlayStation’s example is a seven-day trial followed by a charge: seven trial days leave seven days after the charge to request the refund. Do not treat the billing date as a fresh 14-day clock.
Refund versus canceling renewal
Canceling renewal does not normally end the paid period immediately. The subscription remains active until the next payment date and then ends. Use the refund process when you are asking for money back; use the cancellation setting when you only want to prevent the next renewal.
Digital pre-orders
Pre-orders made more than 14 days before release
For this group, the U.S. guide says the request must be submitted before the release date. The main content must not have started downloading or preloading, unless the content is faulty.
Pre-orders made 14 days or less before release
For a pre-order placed within 14 days of release, the request period is tied to the purchase: submit within 14 days of the purchase. If release has already occurred, the request still has to fall within that purchase-based period, and the main content must not have started downloading or preloading.

Prevent an automatic preload
Automatic downloads can begin without you manually pressing a download button. Check the console’s automatic-download settings before the preload window. If a pre-order is canceled, bonus content that was immediately accessible may stop working.
Wallet funds, vouchers, and online ID changes
Wallet top-ups
The U.S. support FAQ says a wallet top-up cannot be canceled. If the issue is an unfamiliar top-up, investigate the account and payment method rather than presenting it as a routine price-drop request.
Voucher codes
A code purchased from a retailer outside PlayStation Store is handled under that retailer’s refund policy. Contact the seller, keep the receipt, and do not assume PlayStation can reverse the retailer’s transaction.
Online ID changes
A purchased online ID change is not refundable unless it is faulty. PlayStation says you can revert to a previous online ID for free, which is different from refunding the original change.
Price drops versus an incorrect checkout price
A later sale price
PlayStation’s U.S. Terms of Service, section 8.9, states: “If the price for any content or services you purchased temporarily or permanently drops, you will not be entitled to a refund (unless your purchase independently qualifies for a refund under the PlayStation Store Cancellation Policy).” In practical terms, compare the transaction with the relevant cancellation criteria; do not rely on the fact that the item is cheaper today.

A price shown incorrectly when you ordered
A checkout or listing error is a separate situation. PlayStation says it may contact you to reconfirm at the correct price or cancel. If it cannot make contact, it says the order will be canceled automatically. Keep screenshots or order details if the amount charged does not match the price displayed at the time of purchase.

- a recurring subscription payment;
- a purchase made by a child or another family member;
- a duplicate charge;
- another PlayStation account using the same payment method.
These checks can explain a charge without requiring an account takeover investigation.
If someone may have used your details
If you believe somebody used your email address or payment details to create an account or make a purchase, contact PlayStation Support as soon as possible. If you do not have a PlayStation account but your email or payment details were used, change the email-account password immediately.
If your PlayStation account may be compromised
Prioritize account recovery and security rather than describing the incident as a normal change-of-mind refund. Secure the email account associated with PlayStation, follow the account-recovery process, and provide Support with the transaction information. For a stolen console, PlayStation’s security guidance includes signing out on all devices, deactivating consoles, and considering removal of saved payment methods.

Gather these details before opening a chat or contacting Support:
- your Online ID;
- the sign-in email address;
- the exact purchase name;
- the transaction date and amount;
- the account that made the purchase, if your household uses more than one;
- whether the content was downloaded, streamed, preloaded, launched, delivered, or used;
- the reason for the request, such as an unused purchase, faulty content, pricing error, or unrecognized charge.
State the facts in chronological order. For example: “Purchased on [date], not downloaded or streamed, request submitted on [date].” If the issue is a fault, describe the behavior and the point at which it occurs instead of simply calling the item defective.
What happens after approval
PlayStation’s U.S. FAQ says a refund may take 30 to 60 days, according to the PlayStation Support page accessed October 13, 2026. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed arrival date for every payment method or case.
Refunds go to the original payment method where possible. If that method cannot receive the refund, PlayStation may credit the PlayStation wallet instead. After a confirmed approval, check the original payment account when that is the stated destination. If PlayStation used a wallet credit, check the wallet balance. If the expected destination still has no credit after the stated processing period, ask the payment provider when the original method is involved or contact PlayStation when a wallet refund is missing.
When the standard path does not work
The Request Refund button is missing
Confirm that you are signed into the account that made the purchase and that you selected the correct transaction. If the option remains unavailable, use the online assistant or contact PlayStation Support. Have the Online ID, sign-in email, and purchase name ready.
You downloaded or launched the item accidentally
Do not conceal that fact. Tell Support exactly what happened and when. The ordinary U.S. rule for games and DLC requires no download or streaming, while consumables also consider whether the game was launched. Faulty-content or local-law rights may be evaluated separately.
The charge is outside the normal time window
Submit the request promptly anyway if you believe the content is faulty, the charge is unauthorized, or another legal right applies. Explain why the case is different from a routine late change-of-mind request; do not assume the standard 14-day rule is universal across regions or categories.

The refund was approved but has not appeared
Use the destination PlayStation identified: the original payment method or wallet. Check with the payment provider for a card or other external method. If the wallet is the stated destination and the balance is still unchanged, contact PlayStation Support with the approval information.
Regional limits and consumer rights
The timing and conditions in this guide are based on PlayStation’s U.S. support materials. An account registered in another country may have different cancellation periods, statutory rights, payment rules, or treatment of digital content. Select the policy for the country associated with your account before relying on a U.S. deadline.
PlayStation’s U.S. refund guide says its rules do not limit additional rights that may apply under local law. That qualification matters especially for faulty digital content, unauthorized transactions, and other situations where consumer law can provide remedies beyond the ordinary Store cancellation checklist.
