What AI can—and cannot—do with a livestream
AI tools can analyze a recording, suggest short segments, generate captions and help format footage for vertical viewing. For example, StreamYard’s Help Center says its AI Clips feature analyzes a recording and generates captioned 9:16 clips with titles. That describes a documented product capability, not a guarantee that every suggestion is publishable or that transcription is error-free. No independently verified accuracy rate is established by the cited product documentation.

The editorial work remains yours: confirm the clip’s meaning, retain necessary context, correct names and technical terms, and check that the crop and captions do not hide essential information.

1. Preserve the full recording
Keep the original livestream recording, even if you expect AI to find the highlights. You may need to revisit the surrounding footage to restore context, choose better cut points or correct an omission. For future broadcasts, you can also make likely highlights easier to locate. One StreamYard guide documents saying “Clip that” during a broadcast as a marker for later suggestions; this is a StreamYard-specific technique, not a requirement for other tools.

2. Generate candidates with a clip finder or transcript editor
Import the recording into a tool that supports your source footage. StreamYard documents AI Clips for recordings in its library, with text prompts to guide topics and support for recordings up to six hours. These are documented StreamYard capabilities; verify current plan limits and availability before relying on them.
Alternatively, a transcript-led editor can help you search spoken content and choose potential segments. Descript describes finding candidate clips from a transcript and reframing them. A StreamYard guide names Opus Clip and VEED as options for recordings from other platforms or heavier post-production. Check each service’s current import compatibility and export controls.

3. Review each candidate as an editor
Keep a candidate only if it delivers a coherent moment to a viewer who has not seen the full livestream. Check that it:
- makes one clear point or captures one complete action;
- includes enough setup to be understood, along with the useful payoff;
- does not omit a qualification that changes the meaning;
- has sensible in and out points, without dead air that harms the rhythm or turn-taking;
- preserves accurate names, figures and technical terms in both speech and captions.
Listen to the original recording rather than trusting an automatic transcript when wording matters. If the clip depends on an earlier explanation, include that setup or choose a different moment.

4. Reframe the video and check the crop
A 9:16 vertical conversion is not automatically a good crop. Preview the result and make sure it keeps the relevant speaker, action, demonstration, slide text and other visual context in view. Keep captions away from faces and important on-screen details, and account for platform interface elements that may cover parts of the video.
StreamYard’s documented publishing flow creates vertical output by placing a blurred version of the video above and below the frame; its help article says that flow does not offer zooming or recentering. That is one product’s conversion method, not the only way to make a vertical clip. If the subject is poorly framed, use an editor with suitable crop controls or choose a different moment.

5. Correct captions and adapt the edit
StreamYard documents automatically generated captions and caption editing or customization in its Shorts and Reels workflow. Treat captions as a draft: fix recognition errors, punctuation and line breaks, then check that the text is readable and synchronized. Captioning features vary by product, so verify what your chosen workflow actually lets you change.
Prepare the aspect ratio, length and export settings for the destination rather than assuming one version fits everywhere. If you publish the same clip in several places, review each platform’s current upload rules and preview how its interface displays the video.

6. Publish only after a rights and context check
Check the footage, music, images and other material included in the clip before uploading. YouTube says copyright-protected material in an externally created upload must be approved for use; otherwise, it may receive a Content ID claim or removal request. A clip taken from your own livestream is not automatically cleared for every third-party element it contains.

As of October 3, 2026, YouTube Help says square or vertical videos up to three minutes uploaded after October 15, 2024 are categorized as Shorts for standard channels. YouTube also says creators can upload eligible square or vertical videos up to three minutes through YouTube Studio. Check the current rules before publishing, particularly if music or other copyrighted material is involved: YouTube’s Help documentation describes copyright-claim handling for Shorts longer than one minute.
Do not confuse a tool’s export limit with YouTube’s maximum. StreamYard’s documented short-form publishing workflow describes clips up to 60 seconds, while YouTube’s rule for eligible Shorts allows up to three minutes. Those limits concern different things: one is a product workflow, the other a platform classification rule.
