In the United States, report unwanted political calls or texts to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). For texts, you can also forward the message to 7726 (SPAM); if it appears fraudulent, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. These routes serve different purposes, and none guarantees that a sender will be stopped immediately or that your individual complaint will be resolved.
Report an unwanted political call or text to the FCC
- Open the FCC consumer complaint form.
- Choose the Phone issue category “unwanted calls/texts.”
- Select “all other unwanted calls/messages” for an unwanted call or text, then complete and submit the form.
The FCC uses complaints to inform its policy work and identify issues that may support enforcement. It does not resolve individual unwanted-call or text complaints, so filing one is not a request for the FCC to make a particular sender stop contacting you. See How the FCC Handles Your Complaint for what to expect.

Forward unwanted texts to 7726
Forward the unwanted message to 7726, which spells “SPAM.” The FTC says this helps wireless providers spot and block similar messages. You may also be able to report the message as junk or spam in your phone’s messaging app. These options can help with detection and filtering, but they do not guarantee that every future message from the sender will be blocked.
For more on forwarding and reporting spam, see the FTC’s Dealing with spam texts, emails, and junk mail and How to Recognize and Report Spam Text Messages.

If a political message may be a scam
A message claiming to come from a campaign, election office, or government agency may be deceptive. If it asks for money or personal information, impersonates an organization, or otherwise appears fraudulent, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Do not click an unexpected text link asking for personal or financial information. If you think a message might be legitimate, contact the organization using a phone number or website you already know is genuine—not contact details supplied in the message.
For an unwanted call involving telemarketing rather than suspected fraud, the FTC directs consumers to DoNotCall.gov. That is a separate route from an FCC complaint about unwanted calls or texts.

Understand what the Do Not Call Registry does—and does not do
The National Do Not Call Registry lets consumers opt out of most telemarketing sales calls and robocalls. The FTC identifies political callers among the organizations exempt from accessing the Registry. Registering your number therefore should not be expected to stop political calls or texts. The Registry is not a substitute for reporting an unwanted political message to the FCC or a suspected scam to the FTC. See the FTC’s 2026 Do Not Call Registry fee announcement for the agency’s description of Registry access and exemptions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not assume that a political message is automatically lawful or unlawful based only on its political content. The applicable rules can depend on the circumstances, and the federal guidance cited here does not establish a complete account of federal and state political-calling exceptions or consent requirements. For additional local guidance, contact your state election office or attorney general.

What to save before you report
The FCC’s complaint instructions do not prescribe a special evidence checklist for political messages. As a practical matter, keep the message or voicemail and note:
- The date and time it arrived or the call occurred.
- The displayed caller ID or sender information.
- The message text, including any link or callback number.
- Whether you received a call, voicemail, or text.
This information can help you describe what happened. Displayed caller ID is not conclusive proof of who contacted you; caller ID spoofing is a known concern.
