If you find alleged GTA 6 footage posted before release, do not download, mirror, quote, or link to it. Save only the post URL, account or channel, date and time, platform, and a non-redistributive screenshot. Then use the host platform’s reporting process. A formal DMCA notice should be submitted only by the copyright owner or an authorized representative; everyone else should use an ordinary platform report and, when appropriate, notify Rockstar/Take-Two.
First, decide what kind of report you can legally make
The correct route depends on your authority. A viewer can flag suspected policy violations, but a DMCA notice is a legal declaration about copyrighted material. Signing one without the required authority or making statements you cannot support can create legal and account consequences.

Use the narrowest effective option. If you are not the rights owner or an authorized representative, do not present yourself as one and do not sign a DMCA declaration.
Collect evidence without amplifying the leak
Your goal is to identify the infringing post, not to preserve a copy of the leaked game material. Downloading or reposting the file can spread the infringement and may expose you to additional platform or legal problems.

Record these identifying details
- The direct URL of each post, video, channel, account, or page.
- The account or channel name and, if shown, its user ID.
- The platform and the date and time you observed the material, including your time zone.
- A screenshot of the page that does not reproduce the footage. Crop or obscure frames, audio, thumbnails, or captions that would redistribute the leak.
- A short factual description of what appears to be present and why it may be unauthorized, such as “claims to show in-game footage from a pre-release copy.”
Do not quote dialogue, transcribe unreleased plot details, embed the video, create a mirror, or include a file attachment unless the platform’s official form expressly requires a particular non-public identifier. Keep your notes securely and preserve the original page address in case the post disappears.
How to report a suspected leak as an ordinary viewer
If you are not the copyright owner or an authorized representative, use the host platform’s normal report control. Select the closest category, such as copyright, intellectual property, or unauthorized content, and explain that the post appears to contain pre-release GTA 6 footage. Include the direct post URL and the identifying details above.
- Open the post or video on the platform where it is hosted.
- Choose the platform’s Report, Flag, or equivalent control.
- Select the intellectual-property or copyright category if one is available. If the platform offers a separate “leaked content” or “stolen content” category, use the more specific option.
- State that you are reporting suspected unauthorized pre-release game footage, without repeating plot details or attaching the footage.
- Submit the report and retain the confirmation number or email, if supplied.
One report should identify one post clearly. For a coordinated set of reuploads, list each direct URL in the platform’s permitted format rather than submitting vague claims about an entire account.

How a rights holder or authorized representative files a YouTube copyright notice
YouTube provides a copyright-removal process through YouTube Studio and by email at [email protected]. The process is for a rights owner or an authorized representative, not a general viewer. Interface labels can change, so use the current copyright-removal request flow shown in YouTube Studio when you file.
Information YouTube requires
- Your contact information.
- A description of the copyrighted work. Identify the GTA 6 work or other protected material at issue with enough detail for YouTube to understand what you control.
- A direct link to every allegedly infringing video or item. Do not provide only a channel URL when individual video URLs are available.
- A good-faith statement that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- An accuracy statement made under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and that you are authorized to act for the owner.
- Your full legal-name signature, submitted in the format YouTube accepts.
Read each declaration before signing. YouTube warns that false or abusive submissions can result in account termination or legal consequences. A request should target material you can identify and explain; it should not be used to suppress criticism, commentary, or material that falls within a legal exception.
Submit one precise request or a properly organized set
For a single upload, provide the exact video link and identify the protected work allegedly used. For several uploads, make sure every URL is covered and that your authority extends to each work. Keep a copy of what you submitted and the date of submission. If the same file appears on different platforms, each host generally requires its own report.

When to contact Rockstar or Take-Two
Rockstar Games Customer Support’s policy, last updated January 10, 2025, states: “Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained.” The same policy says, “Generally, Take-Two Interactive does not object to our fans using materials for non-commercial uses in a manner which does not intentionally spoil the plot for others.” Those statements distinguish ordinary fan use from footage originating in a leaked copy.

The policy is not exhaustive and may change. Can someone who is not Rockstar report the leak?
Yes, but the type of report matters. Anyone can submit an ordinary platform report based on what they observed. Only the owner or an authorized representative should submit a DMCA notice asserting authority over the copyrighted work.
You can also send factual information to Rockstar/Take-Two even if you are not affiliated with the company. Make clear that you are reporting a suspected leak as a viewer. Do not claim to represent Rockstar, Take-Two, a publisher, or a developer when you do not.

YouTube instructs claimants to consider fair use, public domain, fair dealing, or another applicable exception before submitting a removal request. The presence of GTA 6 footage does not automatically answer that question. A post might contain commentary, criticism, reporting, or another use whose legality depends on the facts and the governing law.
Ask whether the identified material is actually protected, whether the uploader has permission, what portion is used, and what the surrounding purpose and context are. If those questions are uncertain, do not make a categorical sworn statement. Use an ordinary platform report or seek advice from a qualified copyright lawyer.
Understand disclosure and counter-notice risk
YouTube may share a claimant’s name, primary email address, legal name, and description of the work with the uploader. Physical address and phone number are generally kept confidential unless requested in litigation. If privacy is a concern, an authorized representative may be able to submit the notice.
A removal can trigger a counter-notification from the uploader. Sony’s published procedure explains that a counter-notice includes personal information and may result in restoration unless the claimant files a court action. Because a counter-notice can escalate the dispute and expose the parties to litigation, consider consulting a qualified copyright lawyer before filing either a notice or a counter-notice.
How to handle reuploads and copies
Leaks commonly appear as clipped videos, new accounts, edited compilations, screenshots, and links that move between services. Treat each host as a separate reporting destination.
- Keep a private list of every direct URL, account, and timestamp.
- Report the original post and each significant reupload through the relevant platform’s current process.
- Do not repost a removed copy to demonstrate that it existed.
- When a form limits the number of URLs, submit additional requests in the platform’s permitted manner and cross-reference your own case numbers.
- Tell Rockstar/Take-Two which platforms and URLs are involved, while avoiding attachments that contain the footage.
Do not assume that one platform’s removal automatically removes copies elsewhere. A takedown is normally limited to the host and material identified in that request.
Speed, authority, evidence, and legal exposure: choosing the route

Common mistakes that make reports weaker
- Sharing the leak while reporting it: linking, mirroring, or quoting the material amplifies the harm and creates additional copies.
- Using a DMCA form as a general complaint: a legal notice requires authority, specific works, direct links, and sworn statements.
- Reporting an account without identifying posts: platforms generally need the location of the allegedly infringing material.
- Ignoring exceptions: commentary, criticism, fair use, fair dealing, public-domain material, or permission can change the analysis.
- Submitting guessed details: use the exact URL, account, date, and description you observed; do not claim that authenticity is proven when it is not.
- Assuming every alleged clip is genuine: official sources have not authenticated any specific 2026 GTA 6 clip. Treat authenticity claims as unverified unless Rockstar/Take-Two or the relevant platform confirms them.
- Forgetting privacy consequences: a claimant’s identity and work description may be disclosed, and a counter-notice can require further action.
A practical pre-submission checklist
- Have I avoided downloading, copying, embedding, or quoting the footage?
- Do I have the exact post or video URL, account or channel, platform, and observation time?
- Am I submitting an ordinary report, or do I genuinely have authority to sign a copyright notice?
- Have I identified the protected work and every allegedly infringing item precisely?
- Can I truthfully make the good-faith and accuracy statements?
- Have I considered permission, fair use, fair dealing, public domain, and other applicable exceptions?
- Am I prepared for disclosure of my legal name and primary email and for a possible counter-notice?
- Would a copyright lawyer be appropriate before I sign?
Final decision
For most viewers, the safest effective response is a precise ordinary report to the host platform plus a factual notification to [email protected] when the matter concerns alleged pre-release footage. Reserve a DMCA notice for Rockstar/Take-Two or an authorized representative who can identify the protected work, locate each infringing item, make the required sworn statements, and accept the disclosure and counter-notice consequences.
