1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf money has been taken through an online scam or an unauthorized digital transaction, call India’s cyber fraud helpline at 1930 promptly and report it at cybercrime.gov.in. Also notify the affected bank, wallet, merchant, or payment provider using contact details independently verified through its official website or app. Save every acknowledgement or reference number. Reporting quickly can help the relevant authorities and financial intermediaries assess the incident, but it does not guarantee that funds will be recovered.
What to do first after cyber financial fraud
- Call 1930 promptly. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal directs victims of cyber financial fraud to use the helpline for immediate reporting. Note the date and time of your call and keep the acknowledgement or reference number you receive.
- Notify the affected financial provider. Contact your bank, wallet, merchant, or payment provider through its verified official app or website. Report the unauthorized transaction and record the provider’s complaint reference as well.
- File or complete the online report. Use cybercrime.gov.in to provide the structured incident details and supporting evidence. Follow the current portal directions and any instructions in your helpline acknowledgement.
- Preserve the original records. Keep the original messages, call details, emails, chats, and transaction records intact. Make copies or screenshots for submission rather than editing or deleting the only copy.
The government describes the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) as a mechanism for immediate reporting and coordination intended to help stop funds from being siphoned. That purpose is not a promise that a particular transaction will be blocked or reimbursed.

1930 or the online portal: which should you use?
They serve complementary purposes: the helpline is positioned for immediate notification, while the portal lets you enter the incident details and upload supporting files. Use the route the authorities direct you to and retain the references from each report.

|---|---|---|
| 1930 helpline | Immediate reporting of cyber financial fraud, according to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. | Call promptly, note when you called, and preserve the acknowledgement or reference number and any follow-up directions. |
| cybercrime.gov.in | Submitting structured incident details and supporting evidence through the online portal. | Complete the current form, attach relevant files, and save the complaint acknowledgement or reference. |
| Bank, wallet, merchant, or payment provider | Reporting the unauthorized transaction to the affected provider. | Use verified contact information from its official website or app and save the provider’s complaint reference. |
The available official guidance does not establish that either reporting route guarantees better recovery. Use the helpline and portal as directed, and notify the affected provider rather than treating one report as a substitute for the others.

Information to gather for the complaint
Prepare a concise timeline and the transaction details before filling in the portal. The current portal checklist asks for incident and transaction information, an identity-document upload, and supporting evidence.
- Incident: date and approximate time, plus a clear chronological description of what happened.
- Transaction: bank, wallet, merchant, or payment channel; transaction date; amount; and the 12-digit transaction ID or UTR, if available.
- Account or wallet details: provide the identifier requested by the official form. Do not share account credentials or sensitive personal information in public comments or posts.
- Suspect details: relevant phone numbers, email addresses, website or profile URLs, and message or call information.
- Reporting record: acknowledgement or reference numbers and the date and time you contacted the helpline, provider, and portal.
- Files: receipts, statements, screenshots, emails, chat transcripts, call recordings, images, videos, or other documents that help establish the events.
The portal currently displays a minimum of 200 characters for the complaint narrative and a 10 MB limit per evidence file. It also identifies an identity-document upload. These are live-interface details and may change; confirm the requirements on the portal when filing.

How to preserve useful evidence
Keep evidence in context so it shows what happened, when it happened, and how it relates to the transaction. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal’s FAQ lists examples including credit-card receipts, bank statements, online money-transfer receipts, email copies, webpage URLs, chat transcripts, screenshots of suspect mobile numbers, videos, images, and other documents. The citizen manual also discusses sender and transaction screenshots, call recordings, and preserving original records.

What happens after you report?
The portal FAQ says complaints are handled by the concerned State or Union Territory police based on the jurisdiction selected during reporting. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also said that cybercrime complaints, their conversion into FIRs, and subsequent action are handled by the relevant State/UT law-enforcement agencies under applicable law. A portal submission should not be treated as an automatic FIR or as confirmation that money will be returned.

A government instruction sheet for its 1930 reporting workflow says callers receive a system-generated login or acknowledgement number and must complete portal registration within 24 hours. That sheet is titled for Delhi and predates the live portal checklist; follow the instructions in your own acknowledgement and on the current portal if they differ.
