Use the incident-status prompt for a report that has cleared
The quickest way to correct a stale, community-reported traffic incident is to vote on its current status in Google Maps. During navigation, Maps can display an incident reported by another user as you move closer. A prompt then asks “Is this still here?”

- Wait until the incident marker and the status question appear while you are navigating.
- Tap No if the crash, stopped vehicle, road hazard, police activity, closure or other reported event is no longer there.
- Tap Yes if you can still see that the incident remains.
Your answer is a status vote for other drivers, not a message to the person who originally submitted the report and not a general customer-support ticket. Google combines many information sources, including anonymous phone data and licensed partners such as governments, nonprofits, schools and businesses, when it makes traffic and routing decisions. Your vote is one contribution to that broader system; it does not guarantee an immediate change to the map.
Google’s guidance says: “Only make a report if it’s safe to do so.”

What the Yes and No buttons actually do
No means the incident is no longer present
Use No when you pass the location and find that the reported event has cleared. This is the appropriate response to a marker that is still visible even though traffic has returned to normal, a vehicle has been moved, debris has been removed or an earlier closure has ended.
Yes means the incident is still present
Use Yes when the condition described by the marker is still visible or affecting the road. Do not select Yes merely because the marker remains on screen; the question concerns the real-world event at that location.
The vote is not a removal request with a guaranteed result
Google’s instructions explain how to submit the status vote but do not promise that one answer will delete an incident immediately, provide a response from Google or notify the original reporter. Avoid treating the prompt as a guaranteed takedown or a support conversation. If the marker remains after you vote, that does not necessarily mean the submission failed.

The documented incident-status workflow is tied to navigation. Maps may ask the question as you move closer to the reported location rather than when you first browse the map from home. If you are not actively navigating, you may not receive the prompt.
Availability also depends on the product environment. Google specifically documents this incident interaction for Google Maps built into a car. Features can vary by vehicle manufacturer, country or region and data plan. Google says some incident types are reportable only in certain countries. The labels and placement in a phone app, a car display or another Maps-enabled device can differ and can change over time, so do not assume that one platform’s menu path applies everywhere.

Report only when you can do it safely
Do not interact with Maps while driving if doing so would distract you. Pull over legally, ask a passenger to respond or wait until you can operate the device without taking attention from traffic. This applies to the Yes/No status prompt and to any other feedback form.
Safety also affects whether a status vote is reliable. If you cannot safely verify the location, do not guess. A wrong vote can mislead people approaching the area. Conditions may change between the time you see the marker and the time you reach it, so answer based on what you can actually establish without putting yourself or anyone else at risk.
Do not use the incident prompt to fix underlying map data
An incident marker concerns a temporary event. Map data errors concern the map itself: for example, a road, address, place or other map content that is wrong, missing or represented incorrectly. Google separates those cases.
For wrong map information, Google directs users to a data-problem or map-content error route rather than the general product-feedback steps. Its error guidance lists separate paths for places, addresses, roads, spam or bad data and other content errors. The exact form and available categories can vary by country or region.
Prepare a specific map-data report
Describe what is wrong and what you expected to see. A useful report identifies the affected map item, explains the discrepancy and distinguishes a permanent data error from a temporary traffic event. For example, a permanently closed road belongs in the map-data route; a collision that has been cleared belongs in the incident-status prompt.

Google’s feedback guidance emphasizes specificity. State the observable problem rather than writing only that the map is “wrong.” If an address points to the wrong building, explain the correct location. If a road is missing, identify the segment and its connection to nearby roads. If a place listing contains bad information, identify the incorrect field and the expected value.

If the problem is the route instruction itself—such as a turn that does not match the road layout—use Google’s separate wrong-directions flow. The documented workflow is computer-only and may be available only in certain countries or regions.
- Open Google Maps on a computer and choose Directions.
- Enter the starting point and destination.
- Select the route that contains the incorrect instruction.
- Open Details for that route.
- Choose Send Product Feedback.
- Flag the specific step that is wrong.
- Select the issue type that best describes the problem.
- Submit the feedback.
This form is for a wrong navigation step, not for voting on whether a temporary incident is still present. If both problems exist—for example, a route is wrong and a stale crash marker is also visible—handle each through its corresponding route rather than describing both as one incident report.
Choose the right report when symptoms overlap
The marker is still visible, but the event is gone
During navigation, answer No to “Is this still here?” once you can safely verify that the event has cleared. Do not submit a general map-data correction solely because the temporary marker remains on screen.
The road itself is incorrectly shown
Use the map-data error route. A road that is missing, misaligned, permanently closed or incorrectly classified is an underlying map problem rather than a temporary incident-status question.

The turn instruction is impossible or unsafe
Use the computer wrong-directions workflow and flag the specific step. Explain the issue in the feedback so the error can be distinguished from a normal route preference.
You cannot find any reporting option
Check whether you are navigating and near the incident location. The status question is proximity-based, and some incident features are limited by country, region, vehicle manufacturer or data plan. If the issue is map content or a route step instead, switch to the appropriate data-problem or wrong-directions route.
The incident changed before you reached it
Answer according to the condition you observe at the time the prompt appears. Temporary events can clear or develop, which is why the status question is presented near the reported location rather than treated as a permanent map attribute.

- Identify the location using the road, nearby intersection, address or place shown in Maps.
- State what Maps displayed and what you observed instead.
- Explain what you expected the map or route to show.
- Indicate whether the problem is temporary (an incident), a map-data error or a specific direction step.
- Avoid entering information that is unrelated to the reported map problem.
Google’s guidance recommends explaining specifically what happened and what you expected. This helps separate a stale incident from a wrong road record or an incorrect instruction.
Regional and platform limits
There is no single worldwide set of incident-reporting controls. Google states that some incident features are available only in certain countries or regions. Its map-error help also says correction assistance varies by location. In cars with Google built in, functionality can depend on the vehicle manufacturer, region and data plan.
Because these conditions can change, an absent button does not by itself prove that your account, device or report is defective. First identify which task you are trying to complete, then check whether that task is supported in your current platform and region. The consumer app may use different labels from the built-in-car interface, and Google can change labels or layout without changing the underlying distinction between incidents, map data and directions.
What happens after you submit
The official instructions describe how to cast an incident-status vote or send map and directions feedback. They do not specify a guaranteed processing time, a guaranteed disappearance time for an incident or a personal reply to every report. Do not promise yourself or another driver that a marker will be removed immediately.

A status vote can help inform later decisions without producing a visible change at once. If the issue is urgent or creates an immediate hazard, follow local road-safety procedures rather than relying on a Maps submission.
A quick decision checklist
- Is this a temporary incident reported by another user? If yes, use the nearby “Is this still here?” prompt.
- Has it cleared? Tap No. Is it still present? Tap Yes.
- Can you respond safely? If not, wait, pull over or have a passenger respond.
- Is the map itself wrong or missing information? Use the data-problem or map-content error route.
- Is one driving instruction incorrect? On a computer, use Directions, select the route, open Details, choose Send Product Feedback, flag the step, choose the issue type and submit.
- Is the feature unavailable? Consider navigation state, country or region, vehicle manufacturer and data-plan limitations.
Using the matching route gives Google the type of information each system is designed to process: a current-status vote for a temporary incident, a data correction for the map record or structured feedback for an incorrect direction.
