Google warns that AI responses may contain mistakes. Reporting a concrete, verifiable problem helps distinguish an inaccurate answer from a merely incomplete one, but a report does not guarantee a correction, removal, personal reply, or published timeline.

The quickest route
Use the dedicated AI Overview report whenever it is available:

- Run the search again, or return to the results page that showed the incorrect Overview.
- In the Overview, select the thumbs-down control labeled Bad overview. Google also documents a three-dot menu at the Overview’s upper-right corner as another way to reach feedback.
- Select Report a problem.
- Choose the category that best describes the problem.
- Describe the exact claim that is wrong or misleading and add reliable supporting context where useful.
- Submit the report.
Google’s instructions for this flow are documented for desktop and Android. Labels, icons, and whether the controls appear can vary by interface, account, query, or rollout, so do not assume every search will display the same buttons.

Why reporting matters—and what it cannot do
An AI Overview is generated text placed above or among ordinary Search results. It can summarize several sources, infer an answer, or present a conclusion that sounds confident even when a detail is wrong. Google’s own guidance says, “AI responses may include mistakes,” and recommends checking important information against multiple sources.
A report is feedback about the Overview and the Search experience. The official instructions do not promise that Google will remove the answer, edit it immediately, contact you, or finish reviewing it by a particular date. General Search feedback may be reviewed and used to improve Search, but Google says it cannot always respond.
That uncertainty is a reason to report precisely, not a reason to omit verification. If a claim could affect health, safety, money, legal rights, travel, school, employment, or another consequential decision, independently confirm it before acting.
Before you open the feedback form
Save the context you are reporting
Keep the exact search query and the wording of the Overview in view. If the answer changes when you rerun the search, note which version contained the problem. A screenshot can help you remember the wording and layout, although Google’s documented form itself includes the most recent search query and its search results with the feedback.
Separate a factual error from a preference
Use the report for a statement that is inaccurate, misleading, biased, unhelpful, or otherwise problematic. A response that is simply shorter than you wanted may be a usability complaint rather than a factual error. You can still explain why it is unhelpful, but identify the particular sentence or implication that caused the problem.
Check the claim independently
Compare the disputed statement with multiple reliable sources. Look for current primary information when the subject changes frequently, such as a government rule, a product specification, a company policy, a schedule, or a software version. Do not treat a single search result—or your memory—as proof that the Overview is wrong.
Step-by-step: report an incorrect AI Overview
1. Reopen the search that produced the Overview
Start from the Google Search results page containing the problematic Overview. If you navigated away, run the same query again. Use the same wording when possible; changing the query can produce a different Overview and makes it harder to identify the reported answer.

Read the entire relevant passage before reporting. The error may be qualified elsewhere in the Overview, or a link may lead to a source that changes the meaning. You should report the actual generated claim, not a fragment created by copying only part of a sentence.
2. Find the Overview feedback control
Look inside the AI Overview for a thumbs-down control labeled Bad overview. Google also describes a three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of an Overview that can expose feedback. Depending on the interface, the control may be represented by an icon before its text appears.
If you see only ordinary result controls, do not assume that a result’s feedback form is the same as the Overview report. First check the Overview itself for the dedicated control. The dedicated route gives Google a more specific signal that the generated summary—not merely a linked webpage—was the problem.
3. Choose “Report a problem”
Select Bad overview, then choose Report a problem. This moves from a general negative rating to the reporting form. The form may ask you to classify the issue; use the category that most closely matches what you observed.

4. Select the best category
Read the available categories rather than selecting the first option. Google’s help documentation describes issues such as an Overview being unhelpful, inaccurate, biased, or otherwise problematic. Choose the category that reflects the central defect:
- Inaccurate: the Overview states a fact that conflicts with reliable evidence.
- Misleading or otherwise problematic: the wording creates a false impression, omits a qualification that changes the answer, or combines true fragments into a wrong conclusion.
- Biased: the presentation unfairly favors a viewpoint or treats comparable cases inconsistently.
- Unhelpful: the response does not address the query or is too unclear to be useful, even when a single factual error is difficult to isolate.
The exact category names can change with the interface. If none is a perfect match, select the closest one and explain the distinction in your written description.
5. Explain the specific error
Use the text field to identify the precise statement, explain what is wrong, and provide supporting context. A useful report lets a reviewer understand the problem without guessing which part of a long answer you mean.

A practical structure is:
- Quote or identify the claim: mention the sentence or distinctive phrase and the subject it refers to.
- State the correction: explain what the accurate information is, including a date, jurisdiction, version, or other qualifier when it matters.
- Explain the impact: say why the wording is false, misleading, incomplete, or biased.
- Point to support: name the reliable source or explain the evidence you checked.
For example, instead of writing “This is wrong,” write that the Overview says a particular rule applies everywhere, while the official rule applies only in a named jurisdiction and changed on a specified date. If the problem is an outdated product detail, include the relevant model, edition, or software version.

6. Submit the report
Review the text for clarity, then submit it. Google says the feedback includes the most recent search query and its search results. That context helps associate your report with the result page you were viewing, so avoid running an unrelated search immediately before submitting.
After submission, save any confirmation shown by the interface if you need an internal record. The published instructions do not provide a guaranteed case number, response channel, correction process, or processing time, so do not promise one to someone else.
What makes a report useful
Describe one primary problem at a time
Long lists of unrelated complaints can obscure the central defect. If an Overview contains several independent errors, describe each one clearly, using separate sentences or reports when the form allows. Start with the most consequential issue.
Include the qualification the Overview lost
Many misleading answers are not entirely fabricated; they become wrong when a condition is omitted. State the missing condition explicitly: a date, location, eligibility requirement, exception, unit, or distinction between similarly named items.

Insults and speculation about how the answer was generated do not establish the error. Explain what a reader would believe from the Overview and why that belief is incorrect. If you are uncertain, say what remains unverified instead of presenting an assumption as a fact.
Do not include unnecessary personal information
Report the query and the public claim, not private account details, passwords, payment information, or another person’s identifying data. Include only the context needed to explain the problem.

If the AI Overview controls are missing
Google provides a general Search feedback route for cases where the Overview controls are unavailable or the issue concerns Search more broadly:
- Find the relevant Search result.
- Open the result’s More menu.
- Choose Feedback.
- Describe the problem in the feedback form.
- If offered, highlight the relevant part of the page.
- Send the feedback.
This fallback is not a substitute for the dedicated AI Overview route when that route is visible. Use it when the Overview’s Bad overview control is absent, when the complaint concerns the results page or a linked result, or when a general Search problem prevents you from using the Overview form.
Google says general feedback may be reviewed and used to improve Search, but it cannot always respond. The general form therefore should not be treated as a support ticket with a guaranteed reply.
Which reporting route should you choose?

Desktop and Android differences
Google documents the dedicated reporting flow for desktop and Android, but the exact visual treatment can differ. On one interface the control may appear as a thumbs-down button with the words Bad overview; on another, a three-dot menu at the top right may contain the feedback option. A mobile layout may place controls below the generated text rather than beside it.
These differences do not change the reporting logic: identify the Overview, open its feedback controls, choose the problem-reporting option, classify the issue, explain it, and submit. If an option is not present, use the general Search feedback route rather than repeatedly refreshing and assuming the report failed.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Reporting a search result instead of the Overview
A linked page can be inaccurate while the Overview accurately summarizes it, or the reverse can happen. Say which layer is wrong. Use the dedicated Overview form for generated text and the result’s general feedback for a Search-result problem when the distinction is clear.
Submitting only “wrong”
A one-word complaint gives little information about the disputed claim. Quote the relevant wording, state the correction, and add the source or reasoning that supports it.
Leaving out location or date
Rules and availability often vary by country, state, city, time period, model, or software version. Include those qualifiers so that a correct answer for one context is not mistaken for a universal error—or a universal claim is not allowed to stand as if it were local.
Assuming a report changes the current result
Feedback is not an immediate edit command. The Overview may continue to appear, change on a later search, or disappear for unrelated reasons. Do not tell readers that submitting a report guarantees removal or correction.
Expecting a personal response
Google’s general Search feedback guidance says it may not always respond. Treat the form as feedback to Google, not as a guaranteed support conversation.
Failing to verify a high-stakes answer
Even a well-written report does not protect you from an incorrect answer while it remains visible. Check important claims against multiple sources before relying on them.
A practical writing template
You can adapt this structure in the report’s text field:
“The Overview says [specific claim]. That is inaccurate or misleading because [clear correction and relevant date, location, version, or exception]. The supporting information is [reliable source or evidence]. The missing/incorrect detail could lead readers to [brief consequence].”
Keep the wording factual and focused. The template is a guide for organizing your explanation, not a requirement to include every sentence. Replace each bracketed element with real details before submitting; do not send the brackets themselves.

Continue using ordinary Search results and primary sources to verify the disputed information. If the claim affects an urgent decision, contact the relevant authority or qualified professional rather than waiting for Search feedback. You can revisit the query later to see whether the Overview changes, but a changed answer is not proof that your report caused the change.
If you encounter another incorrect Overview, repeat the same process and describe the new claim specifically. The most useful signal is a clear connection between the report and the exact generated text that prompted it.
