Open the video’s built-in report menu and choose the option that describes the harm—not merely that AI was used. Depending on the video, that may be manipulated media, impersonation, harassment, non-consensual intimate imagery, or a privacy violation. For sexual or intimate material, use a dedicated intimate-imagery or privacy reporting route as well when one is available.
Choose the reporting route that fits the harm
An AI label is not the same as a takedown. A video may be labeled as AI-generated and still violate a platform’s rules—for example, by impersonating someone, harassing them, or sharing intimate imagery without consent. Report the specific post under the policy concern that best fits what it does.

- Misleading synthetic media: choose a manipulated-media, deepfake, or misinformation category when available.
- Impersonation or misuse of a likeness: report impersonation; use the platform’s privacy process if the person’s likeness or personal information is the central issue.
- Sexual or intimate content shared without consent: choose the intimate imagery, unauthorized nudity, or sexual exploitation route. Submit a specialized intimate-imagery form too if the platform offers one.
- Other abuse: use the category for harassment, bullying, hate, fraud, or another applicable violation.
If a post appears to break several rules, use the closest-fitting report category and any specialized privacy or intimate-imagery form. A platform may offer separate processes for separate harms.

TikTok
- Open the video and its Share or report controls.
- Choose Report, then Misinformation, then Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media.
This is the reported route for a video believed to violate TikTok’s Edited Media and AI-Generated Content policy. If impersonation, hate speech, or another harm is a better description, choose the applicable policy route instead. Menu wording can vary by app version or region.

Facebook and Instagram
- Open the post’s report menu.
- Select the policy concern that matches the content, such as non-consensual intimate imagery, sexual exploitation, bullying or harassment, impersonation, or fraud/scams.
- For intimate imagery, check whether a dedicated reporting form is available in addition to the in-app report.
Meta distinguishes AI transparency labels from enforcement: content may receive an AI-related label and remain up unless it violates another policy. The Oversight Board’s 2026 review described a specialized form for intimate imagery and “deepfake intimate imagery” as available at that time to residents of Texas and Florida, with broader U.S. availability in progress. Check the current Help Center or in-app flow because availability may have changed. The Board also documented a case in which a report was not prioritized for human review; submitting a report does not guarantee immediate removal.
X
- On the post, choose Report post.
- Choose It displays a sensitive photo or video, then An unauthorized photo or video.
- Select It includes unauthorized, intimate content of me or someone else, choose the option describing whom you are reporting on behalf of, and submit.
X says one report can include up to five posts. Its rules allow reports by anyone for certain categories; for other content, X may need information directly from the person depicted or an authorized representative to establish context.

YouTube
- Open the video and select More → Report.
- Choose the reason that best describes the violation and submit.
- For a concern about someone’s likeness or another privacy issue, use YouTube’s separate privacy complaint process as well.
A report does not automatically take a video down. YouTube reviews reports, and you can check Report history for their status.
If intimate imagery was shared without consent
For people in the United States, the Take It Down Act provides a request route for covered platforms to remove non-consensual intimate imagery, including AI-generated material. The FTC says covered platforms must provide a clear process and remove the reported image and known identical copies within 48 hours of a request. This is U.S. guidance; it does not establish a deadline in other countries. Notify the platform through its process, and report platform noncompliance to the FTC.

For U.S. incidents involving maliciously altered explicit content, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is an additional reporting option. The FBI warns that offenders may turn benign photos or videos into explicit synthetic content and circulate it on social media, public forums, or pornography sites. An IC3 report does not replace a request to the platform to remove the content.
Keep useful records and reduce further exposure
If it is safe, record the direct post URL, account name, platform, date and time you found it, and any report confirmation or case number. Store this information securely. Avoid downloading or forwarding sexual content, especially if a minor may be depicted, and do not repost the video to draw attention to it. Do not engage with the poster or pay an extortion demand. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

What to expect after reporting
A report asks a platform to review a post; it is not an assurance of removal or a substitute for a specialized privacy request. Save the confirmation so you can follow up through the platform’s available process. The right government or legal reporting route depends on where you are; the FTC and IC3 routes described above apply to U.S. incidents.
