Account takeover and rule-breaking content are reported differently: compromised accounts go through Discord’s hacked-account support guidance and Trust & Safety, while abusive messages, scam bots, and other violations require the message link and a Safety report. First, separate the two problems you may be dealing with
“The server was hacked” can describe several different events. A moderator’s account may have been taken over, a malicious bot may have been authorized, or someone may be posting phishing links and files. Discord’s reporting instructions distinguish the compromised account itself from content that violates the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. Choosing the right route prevents an incident report from being mixed with a recovery request.

A server incident can require both routes. Reporting a phishing message does not recover a moderator’s account, and submitting a hacked-account request does not replace a report containing the link to a specific violating message.

Start by describing the event precisely. “A moderator account may be compromised” is different from “a bot posted a credential-stealing link,” even if both happened in the same hour. A clear description helps the right team understand whether the immediate issue is account recovery, abusive content, or both. It also keeps public updates from overstating what has been confirmed.

Warn members before they interact with the incident
Use a channel, announcement route, or other contact method that remains under trusted control. This is practical incident communication, not a Discord-mandated procedure: the goal is to reach members without directing them into a channel controlled by the suspected attacker.
Keep the first notice short and specific. Tell members what not to do, why the warning is being issued, and where verified updates will appear. Include all of the following that apply:
- Do not open links posted unexpectedly during the incident.
- Do not download an unexpected file.
- Do not invite or authorize an unfamiliar bot.
- Do not provide a password or account token to anyone claiming to be Discord support.
- Do not assume a direct message is genuine merely because it uses Discord’s name or logo.
Discord identifies suspicious links, files, and scam bots as compromise risks. A warning should say “may have been compromised” until the team has confirmed what happened. Avoid naming a person as the attacker unless you have verified evidence; an incorrect accusation can create a second dispute while the original incident is still being handled.

Give members one clearly identified route for verified updates and explain that silence from other accounts or channels is not confirmation.

Do not click links or download files posted unexpectedly, invite unfamiliar bots, or share your password or account token with anyone claiming to be Discord support. Discord says genuine official messages carry an OFFICIAL badge and will never ask for your password or token. We are reporting the incident and will post updates here when we can verify them.
This is an original template, not a quotation from Discord. Replace only the operational details you can verify. Do not ask members to mass-report the same post; Discord specifically discourages coordinated or duplicate reports.
If the situation changes, add a dated update rather than silently editing the original warning. Say whether a message was removed, a report was submitted, or an account issue is still being reviewed. Avoid posting private identifiers in the update. Members need the safety instruction and the location of trusted information, not an exposed email address, UserID, token, or support-ticket number.
Preserve evidence before it disappears
For a rule-breaking-content report, Discord’s guidance says a message link is needed. Capture the link to each material example while it is still available, and record enough context for a reviewer to understand what happened.
- Copy the direct link to the message, rather than only copying the channel name.
- Note the account or bot that posted it and the approximate time.
- Record whether the post contained a suspicious link, file, credential request, or instruction to authorize a bot.
- Keep screenshots for your own incident record, but use the message link required by Discord’s reporting process.
- Preserve the original account identifiers and compromise timeline if an account was taken over.
Organize the notes so each link has a short explanation. For example, identify which message asked for a password, which one promoted a bot, and which one impersonated support. A reviewer can then see the connection without having to infer it from a long stream of screenshots. Keep your wording factual: quote the request or describe the visible behavior instead of asserting an unverified motive.

Do not alter, repost, or “test” a suspicious link to prove that it is dangerous. A link can expose additional members or devices. If a post is removed before you obtain its link, describe that limitation accurately in the report instead of substituting a guessed URL.
Evidence should also show sequence. Note when the first unexpected post appeared, when a moderator noticed the issue, and when members were warned. Approximate times are useful if exact timestamps are unavailable. Keep the original account name and email information private and provide it only in the appropriate support form.
Report violating messages, bots, and scam content
Use Discord’s Safety or Trust & Safety reporting process for content that violates the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. Submit the message link and a concise description of the behavior. Focus on observable facts: what was posted, which account or bot posted it, and why it appears to be phishing, impersonation, malware distribution, or another violation.
- Identify the smallest set of messages that demonstrates the problem.
- Copy each direct message link and keep the links with your incident notes.
- Submit the report through Discord’s Safety process, describing the incident in plain language.
- Include relevant account or bot information and explain any immediate risk to members.
- Keep the confirmation or case information for follow-up; do not create new reports for the same issue unless Discord asks for additional information.
Discord cautions against false or malicious reports, multiple reports about one issue, and asking a group to report the same content. One complete, evidence-based report is more appropriate than a flood of identical submissions. Members can still protect themselves and notify the server’s trusted team without filing duplicate reports.
Choose examples that establish the incident without sending a reviewer dozens of identical links. One phishing post, one suspicious bot authorization request, and one impersonation message may be enough to show the pattern. If several accounts posted the same material, identify that fact in the explanation and include the links that best demonstrate it.
Do not use the report as a place to demand a specific punishment or to accuse someone beyond the evidence. Describe the conduct and the risk. Discord decides how a report is handled; your role is to provide accurate, usable information and avoid making the situation harder to review.
If a moderator or member account was compromised
Discord directs people who believe an account is compromised to Trust & Safety. Account recovery is a separate support problem from reporting a message. The affected person should use Discord’s hacked-account guidance and provide the identifiers requested by the support form.
Have the affected person submit the recovery request personally where possible. Other moderators can report the public violating content, but they should not post another person’s private account details in a server channel. Keep a private timeline of what changed, which messages appeared, and when the account owner noticed the problem. That timeline can make the support description more precise.
When the email address was changed
Discord’s hacked-account support guidance says to submit a support ticket, choose “Hacked Account,” and provide the original username and original email address. Include the UserID if possible, together with the requested details about the compromise. The page carrying this guidance is in Brazilian Portuguese and is dated December 19, 2025, so the exact labels can differ in another locale or after an interface update. Confirm the current wording in the form you see rather than treating those labels as permanent.

- Open Discord’s current support route for a hacked account.
- Select the hacked-account option shown in your locale.
- Enter the original account identifiers, not only the replacement details visible after the takeover.
- Add the UserID if you have it and describe the sequence of events, including an email change.
- Answer the form’s remaining questions accurately and retain the ticket information.
Use the original username and email requested by the form even if the attacker changed the visible profile information. If you do not know the UserID, provide the other requested identifiers rather than guessing. Explain what you observed, when it happened, and which account activity appears unauthorized.

Do not promise members that Discord will restore an account. Discord’s account-safety guidance says it may be unable to help recover an account if it was not secured. Recovery depends on the information available and the support team’s assessment.
How to recognize a genuine Discord message
Incident responders often face a second wave of impersonation after the first suspicious post. Discord says official messages carry an OFFICIAL badge in the member list and in the direct message. Discord also states: “Discord will never ask you for your password or account token.”
Put both checks in the member warning. A person who claims to be support but requests a password, token, payment, or a link click is not following Discord’s stated practice. Do not forward that request to more members; preserve the message details and report it through the Safety process.
The badge is a verification signal, not a reason to skip ordinary caution. Read the message in the account context where the badge appears, and do not rely only on a display name, avatar, or copied logo. A follow-up request that conflicts with Discord’s stated policy—especially a request for a password or token—should be treated as suspicious and documented for reporting.

Members may worry that simply belonging to a compromised server will punish their accounts. Discord distinguishes a warning from a violation. A warning can reach people who were in a server containing rule-breaking material or who interacted with it without participating in the misconduct. Discord says warnings do not affect account standing. A violation is different and may affect account standing.
That distinction belongs in any follow-up notice: members should take the security advice seriously, but you should not tell everyone that they have automatically been punished. Describe only what Discord has actually communicated to the individual account.
Do not interpret a warning as proof that a member intentionally helped the attacker. Likewise, do not describe a violation as a routine notice. Keep the two terms separate when answering questions, and direct an individual with a Discord notice to read the details attached to that account rather than relying on a server-wide assumption.
Handling malicious bots and deleted content
Discord warns that suspicious bots can compromise a server and recommends reporting them to Trust & Safety. Treat an unfamiliar bot authorization as an incident indicator, especially when it arrives alongside unexpected links, files, or urgent support claims. Preserve the related messages and bot details for the report rather than asking members to interact with the bot.

Record the bot’s visible name, the message that introduced it, and any instructions it gave. Do not authorize it merely to discover what permissions it requests. The safer evidence is the invitation or message already visible to you, together with its direct link and approximate time.
Discord Trust & Safety cautions: “If anything gets deleted, we have no way of restoring what was lost!” That warning concerns malicious bots and deleted server content. It is a reason to preserve relevant links and records early, not a guarantee that every deleted item is unrecoverable in every technical circumstance.
If content disappears before you capture a direct link, say so plainly. A screenshot, account name, time, and description can still preserve useful context, but do not turn a screenshot into a fabricated message URL. The report should distinguish what you directly observed from what another member later told you.

Assign one or two trusted people to keep the incident record and submit the report. A single factual timeline avoids contradictory public claims and prevents several helpers from filing the same case. Keep member-facing updates separate from private account identifiers; never publish an original email address, UserID, password, token, or support-ticket details in a public channel.

- Use “suspected,” “reported,” and “confirmed” carefully; they describe different levels of certainty.
- Post a new update only when there is a verified change, such as a support response or a confirmed recovery event.
- Tell members how to recognize the next genuine update, such as the trusted channel or contact route you control.
- Do not promise a recovery time, a guaranteed restoration, or a particular enforcement result.
The purpose of coordination is accuracy. It does not justify asking every member to contact Discord about the same message or incident.
Separate the public communication role from the evidence role when possible. One person can maintain the factual timeline while another posts short member notices. This reduces accidental disclosure of private identifiers and makes it less likely that an unconfirmed claim will be presented as an official update.

Another common mistake is treating a server-wide announcement as proof that every account is compromised. The warning should identify the observed risk without claiming more than the team knows. Likewise, do not publish an attacker’s alleged identity simply because a display name resembles a moderator’s name. Preserve the evidence and let the relevant review process assess it.
A practical incident checklist
Use this sequence when time matters:
- Send a plain warning through a channel or contact route you still trust.
- Tell members not to click unexpected links, download files, authorize unfamiliar bots, or share passwords and tokens.
- Copy direct links to the messages that show the violation.
- Record the posting account or bot, approximate times, and the compromise timeline.
- Report the violating content through Discord’s Safety or Trust & Safety process.
- For an affected account, use the hacked-account support route; if the email changed, provide the original username and email and the UserID if possible.
- Check that alleged official messages show the OFFICIAL badge and do not request credentials.
- Post verified updates without publishing private account information or requesting duplicate reports.
After completing the list, keep the confirmation details and monitor the trusted update route for responses. Do not submit a second report simply because the first response is not immediate. If Discord requests more information, add it to the existing case as instructed rather than opening parallel cases about the same issue.

What this process cannot establish
Discord’s public guidance supports the reporting, evidence, account-recovery routing, phishing warnings, and official-message checks described here. It does not establish a guaranteed recovery time, a guaranteed enforcement result, or a universal set of administrator containment controls. The current Discord interface and support forms can change, and localized pages may use different labels. When a form’s wording differs from the examples above, follow the current official form while preserving the same factual information.
There is also no basis for promising that a deleted post will be restored, that every member will receive the same account treatment, or that a support request will produce a particular outcome. Keep those limits visible in internal planning and member updates. A careful warning, an accurate message link, and the correct support route are the actions you can control.
