Use the live stream’s own Report control, choose the most accurate violence or graphic-content reason, and describe exactly what happened with a timestamp. A platform report is a moderation request—not an emergency call. If somebody may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or law enforcement at once, then report the stream as additional notice.
First decide whether this is an emergency
Platform reporting is appropriate when a broadcast shows disturbing violence, graphic injury, threats, or encouragement of violent acts. It is not a substitute for emergency response. If the stream provides credible evidence that a person faces imminent harm, call your local emergency number or law-enforcement agency immediately. Give the dispatcher the location, what you can see, and any identifying information; do not wait for a platform moderator to review a report.

If there is no immediate threat, avoid confronting the streamer or trying to investigate the incident yourself. Do not download, repost, or forward graphic footage merely to prove that it exists. Instead, note the stream or channel name, the approximate time, and a short factual description while the page is open. Those details help a moderator find the material without spreading it further.
Do not assume that a shocking image automatically establishes a crime or a policy violation. A stream may be news, documentary, educational, scientific, or artistic, and context can affect how a service handles it. Report what you observed and let the platform apply its rules. If you are unsure whether a person is in immediate danger, err on the side of contacting emergency services and explain what you can verify.

Report the stream, chat message, or clip that contains the problem
Choose the report target that matches the violation. A disturbing broadcast should be reported at the stream level. If a separate chat message contains a threat or graphic material, report that message from its own menu as well. A clip, highlight, or video-on-demand recording should be reported from that item rather than from an unrelated live page.
- Select the closest accurate reason. Choosing an exaggerated category does not make a review faster.
- Describe what is visible or being encouraged, where it appears in the stream, and when it occurred.
- Include the date, time, and time zone when the service asks for them or when the timing could otherwise be ambiguous.
- Keep the description factual and avoid repeating graphic details beyond what a reviewer needs to locate and understand the violation.
- Report each distinct object only when necessary: the live video, a threatening chat message, and a saved clip can require separate reports.
Before submitting, check that you have selected the right channel or item. A report attached to the wrong page may not give moderators the location they need. If the stream ends while you are preparing the report, use the resulting recording, clip, or channel page when that is the available object.
How to report a violent or graphic live stream on YouTube
Report the live video on desktop
- Open the live stream on YouTube.
- Select More below the video.
- Choose Report.
- Select the reason that most accurately describes the content, such as violent or graphic material when that option is offered.
- Submit the report and, if a description field appears, add the relevant timestamp and concise context.
YouTube’s mobile labels and layout can differ from the desktop site. Start from the live video’s own options menu and look for the report control rather than relying on a particular icon position. Interface wording can change, so select the equivalent report option if the label is not identical.
YouTube says video reports are anonymous. The service reviews reports against its Community Guidelines; filing one does not automatically remove the stream. YouTube’s desktop help information says video reports are reviewed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but it does not promise a decision time or a particular outcome.
Report a live-chat message separately
When the problem is a message in live chat rather than the video itself, open the menu attached to that message and choose the report option. Explain whether the message threatens violence, encourages an attack, or contains another prohibited element. Reporting the chat message does not replace reporting a violent scene in the video, and reporting the video does not automatically flag every chat message.
Use the message’s own wording when identifying it, but do not copy graphic or threatening language into public posts. A concise description such as “message at 21:22 UTC threatens to attack the person shown in the stream” gives a reviewer a location and a reason without amplifying the statement.
How YouTube assesses violent footage
YouTube’s violent or graphic-content policy applies to live streams as well as other YouTube features. Content showing violence or gore with the intent to shock or disgust viewers is not allowed, as is content that encourages people to commit violent acts. The policy gives examples including fights involving minors, attacks, torture, corpses, and footage of violent events; the examples are not an exhaustive list.

Context can matter. Educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic material may be treated differently when that context is clear in the content itself. A title or comment added after the fact may not provide enough context for an educational exception. Report the material and describe the apparent purpose if it is clear, but do not assume a label such as “news” guarantees an exception.
YouTube may remove material that violates its guidelines and may age-restrict material that is unsuitable for younger viewers. A report asks for a review; it does not decide the policy outcome. A disturbing scene can therefore remain online, receive an age restriction, or be removed depending on the review and the surrounding context.

Check a YouTube report later
YouTube provides report history so you can check the status of reports associated with your account. Status information is not a guarantee that the stream will be removed, and the absence of an immediate change does not mean that no review is occurring. Do not submit duplicate reports simply because the page still appears online.
How to report graphic content on Facebook Live
Use the live video’s report menu
Facebook’s interface can change between desktop and mobile, and the exact labels for a live-video report are not consistent enough to state one universal button sequence. Open the live video, use the page’s report menu, and select the closest available reason for violent or graphic content. If Facebook asks for details, provide the stream identity, the time of the relevant scene, and a plain description of what is shown or encouraged.

Start from the specific live video, not from a general profile complaint. If the stream has ended, report the available recording or post that contains the footage.
Do not choose a more severe reason simply to attract faster attention. If a specific chat comment or post is the problem, report that item from its own menu as well as reporting the live video when the broadcast itself is objectionable. Keep your description limited to facts you personally observed.
What Facebook says about graphic imagery
Meta’s Safety Center says it removes particularly violent or graphic material, including videos depicting dismemberment, visible innards, or charred bodies. Some imagery may remain with a warning label, and people under 18 are restricted from viewing certain graphic material. Those standards describe how Meta may enforce its rules; they do not mean that every disturbing image will receive the same action.
A warning label or age restriction is not proof that a stream is harmless, nor is the continued availability of a video proof that no report was reviewed. If the broadcast also includes a threat, encouragement of violence, or an identifiable person in immediate danger, describe that separately in the report and contact emergency services when appropriate.
Find the result in Support Inbox
After Facebook reviews a report, it sends a notice to the Support Inbox. Open Support Inbox from your Facebook account to check the report’s status and any decision or explanation that Facebook provides. A status update is follow-up information, not a promise that the video will be removed or that the review will finish by a particular time.
If you cannot find an update immediately, avoid filing the same report repeatedly. Keep the original stream URL or channel name for your own reference, provided doing so does not expose you to further harm or require you to keep watching the footage.
How to report a violent live stream on Twitch
Report a live channel on desktop
- Open the channel’s live page.
- Select the three-dot menu below the channel’s video player.
- Choose Report Live Stream.
- Select the category that best matches the conduct.
- Enter the relevant facts in the Tell Us More field and submit.
If the appropriate reason is not immediately visible, Twitch says you can search the category list. Use the category that actually fits the conduct; selecting a more severe reason does not increase the likelihood of enforcement. The same principle applies if the stream involves both graphic imagery and a threat: choose the category that most directly describes the report and explain the additional conduct in the description.

Give Twitch details a reviewer can locate
Twitch recommends including the date and time with the time zone, where the violation occurred and/or who or what it targeted, and timestamps when applicable. Identify the channel and explain what happened at the cited moment. For a VOD, highlight, or clip, start the report from that piece of content itself so the moderation team can review the correct recording.

A useful Twitch description can say that the channel displayed an assault at 20:14 UTC, identify the person or target as presented on screen, and explain whether the streamer encouraged viewers to repeat the act. Avoid guessing at a person’s identity, location, or motive. If you are uncertain, say that the detail was unclear rather than presenting it as fact.
What Twitch does with reports
Twitch says reports are reviewed by a moderation team. Mass or repeated reports do not make an investigation happen faster, so submitting the same allegation repeatedly is less useful than one accurate, well-located report. Twitch’s Safety Center prohibits acts or threats of violence and content focused exclusively on extreme or gratuitous gore and violence.
For an immediate safety issue occurring during a stream, Twitch directs viewers to its on-site reporting tools rather than a general support request. If the facts indicate an imminent threat to a person, use emergency services or law enforcement as well; an on-site report cannot dispatch help.

A useful description lets a reviewer identify the exact material without making the reviewer watch an entire broadcast blindly. Keep it neutral and specific. A practical format is:
Channel or stream: [name shown on the service]
When: [date, local time, and time zone]
Where in the stream: [timestamp or segment]
What occurred: [brief factual description]

Do not attach or repost graphic screenshots unless a platform specifically requests material through an official reporting process. Common mistakes that weaken a report
- Reporting the wrong object: A stream-level violation needs a stream report; an abusive chat line needs a message report; a clip needs a clip report.

If watching the material is distressing, close the stream after recording the minimum information needed for the report. Do not continue viewing graphic footage to collect unnecessary detail. If the stream includes a credible threat, tell emergency responders what you saw and preserve the stream URL or channel identity only if doing so does not put you at risk.
Do not contact or threaten the streamer, the people shown, or other viewers. Direct confrontation can escalate danger and can interfere with an emergency response.
