To tell Maps that another driver’s report is still accurate, answer the nearby “Is this still here?” prompt with Yes or No. Those confirmations help the Maps community, but they are not a personal support ticket or a guaranteed resolution notice.
If the underlying map is wrong—such as a missing road, incorrect direction or outdated closure—use a road edit instead. Road edits and live incident reports are separate workflows, and Google does not publish a fixed time in the reviewed help documentation for either one to be resolved.

Choose the workflow that matches the problem
The fastest way to get the right result is to classify the problem before opening a menu. A temporary condition affecting traffic belongs in navigation’s incident-reporting control. A lasting error in the map database belongs in Edit the map or Update road. A closure tied to an active crisis alert has its own option in the crisis sheet. A complaint about the app itself belongs in product feedback, not a road-data report.

Report a live traffic incident safely
Live incident reporting is intended for a condition that is happening now and could affect people approaching the location. Google Maps’ built-in car experience exposes the control while navigation is running. Google’s instruction is explicit: “Only make a report if it’s safe to do so.” Never handle a phone or car display while driving if doing so would distract you, and follow local laws governing device use. A passenger can submit the report when appropriate, or you can wait until the vehicle is stopped safely.

Steps in Google Maps built into a car
- Start turn-by-turn navigation to your destination.
- When it is safe, tap Report on the navigation screen.
- Select the incident type that best describes the condition.
- Return your attention to the road and let Maps process the report. The report may appear on the map for other drivers along the route.
Google lists these incident choices in its help material:
- Crash
- Slowdown
- Mobile speed camera
- Police
- Construction
- Lane closure
- Object on road
- Flooded road
- Low visibility
- Unplowed road
The list you see can differ by country. Google notes that some incident types can be reported only in certain countries, so an absent option does not necessarily indicate a problem with your account or vehicle.
What happens after you submit
A trip report may be retained by Google and can be shown along the route to people who are navigating nearby. Google says trip reports are not associated with the reporter’s account. That means a report appearing on the map should not be treated as a named, account-linked case that you can reopen later.
Choose the closest accurate category rather than submitting several different reports for the same event. If the situation changes—for example, a queue clears or a lane reopens—other drivers can update the community signal when Maps asks them whether it is still present.

Report a road closure connected to a crisis alert
A closure linked to a crisis alert follows a different path from an ordinary traffic report. Open the relevant crisis sheet in Google Maps and select Navigation impact → Report road closure. Follow the prompts shown there to identify the affected closure.
Use this crisis-sheet route when the closure is presented as part of the alert. For a normal, persistent map error—such as a road that remains incorrectly marked closed after conditions return to normal—use the road-edit workflow described below instead.
Check whether a reported incident is still there
Google Maps does not document a personal incident-history page that sends the original reporter a resolution message. Instead, the documented community check appears to drivers who are approaching a reported location during navigation.

- Navigate on a route that passes near the incident marker.
- As you approach, watch for the prompt Is this still here?
- Tap Yes if the crash, slowdown, hazard or other condition remains.
- Tap No if it has cleared or is no longer accurate.
Your answer is a current observation for other Maps users. It does not confirm that Google has contacted the original reporter, issued a closure notice or completed an internal investigation. A “No” response is useful when a temporary event has ended, while “Yes” helps keep a still-relevant warning visible.

If the prompt never appears, that is not proof that the incident was resolved. The question is presented based on factors such as your route and proximity to the marker, and Google does not promise that every driver will see it.
Correct a persistent road or map-data error
Use a road edit when the map itself contains a lasting factual error. Typical examples include a road that is missing from the map, drawn in the wrong place, given the wrong name, assigned the wrong travel direction or carrying closure information that needs correction. This is not the same as reporting a one-time obstruction or traffic jam.
Desktop workflow
- Open Google Maps and sign in if prompted.
- Open the main Menu.
- Select Edit the map.
- Choose Add or fix a road.
- Select the affected road and identify the correction available for that road.
- Enter the requested details and submit the edit.
Describe the durable map problem precisely. For example, distinguish an incorrectly drawn alignment from a temporary construction detour, and distinguish a wrong one-way direction from a short-term lane restriction. The more specific the selected road and correction, the less likely the report is to be confused with a live incident.

Android workflow
- Open Google Maps and sign in to the account that should own the contribution history.
- Tap Contribute.
- Select Update road.
- Choose the affected road and the available correction type.
- Provide the requested information and submit it.
Google says road-correction tools are available only in some countries and regions. If Update road or a related correction option is missing, availability may be the reason rather than a temporary app failure.

When to use a road edit instead of a live incident
- Use Report: a crash, queue, object, visibility problem or other condition that is happening now.
- Use a road edit: the road geometry, name, direction or closure status is wrong as map data and will remain wrong after the temporary event ends.
- Use the crisis sheet: the closure is presented within an active crisis alert and the sheet offers the Navigation impact option.
Check the status of your own road edit
Google provides a list of your past map contributions on a phone or tablet. The list is personal: Google says the edits are visible only to you. It is therefore useful for reviewing what you submitted, but it is not a public change log and does not guarantee that an edit was accepted or published.
Find past contributions on Android
- Open Google Maps and sign in.
- Tap Contribute.
- Open the area for past contributions or edits.
- Review the road corrections associated with your account.
Google’s help material also provides dedicated instructions for finding edits. The exact labels can vary with app version and device, but the relevant destination remains the contributions or edits area on a phone or tablet.
What the list can and cannot tell you
- It can show that you submitted a correction from the account you are using.
- It can help you distinguish a previous edit from a new report.
- It does not promise publication, acceptance or a particular outcome.
- It does not provide a fixed completion deadline in the documented workflow.
If the road still looks wrong after you submit an edit, avoid filing duplicate corrections immediately. First confirm that you are viewing the same road segment, signed in to the same account and checking the personal contributions area rather than expecting a public status page.

Use product feedback only for Maps problems
Product feedback is intended for the Maps experience itself—for example, a feature behaving incorrectly or an app bug. Google says feedback may be shared with the product team but is unlikely to be acted upon immediately. It is not the correct channel for a missing road, incorrect road direction, wrong road name or outdated closure data.
Route map-data problems through Edit the map, Add or fix a road or Update road. Separating software feedback from geographic corrections gives each issue the information expected by that workflow.
Availability, privacy and timing limits
Country and region differences
Incident categories are not universal. Google states that certain reports can be made only in selected countries. Road corrections are also limited to some countries and regions. A missing button or category can therefore reflect regional availability rather than a fault with your installation.
Account and privacy behavior
Google says trip reports may be retained without being associated with the reporter’s account. By contrast, your own map edits are listed in your personal contributions area and are visible only to you. These are different data paths: a live trip report is a community signal along a route, while a road edit is an account-linked contribution history.
No published fixed resolution time
The reviewed Google Maps documentation does not promise a fixed resolution time for live incident reports or road edits. Do not interpret the absence of a marker, a delayed map change or an unchanged road as proof of a specific service-level failure. If the condition is dangerous and immediate, use the appropriate local emergency or road-authority channel as well as any Maps report; Maps reporting is not an emergency-response service.

Troubleshoot a report that does not appear
The Report button is missing
- Confirm that navigation is actively running rather than browsing the map.
- Check that you are using the Google Maps experience built into the car, where the documented control is available.
- Do not attempt to operate the screen while moving; wait for a safe opportunity or ask a passenger.
- Consider whether the incident category is restricted in your country.
The incident marker remains after the hazard clears
- Continue navigating until Maps presents Is this still here?, if it does.
- Select No when the condition has ended.
- If no prompt appears, do not assume there is a personal removal control or resolution ticket; the documented check is the nearby community prompt.
The road edit option is unavailable
- Sign in and confirm you are using a phone or tablet for the contributions workflow.
- On desktop, look under Menu → Edit the map → Add or fix a road.
- On Android, look under Contribute → Update road.
- If the option is absent in every place, country or regional availability may limit road corrections.
The edit is submitted but the map has not changed
- Open your personal contributions or edits list to verify that the submission was recorded.
- Check that you selected the correct road segment and correction type.
- Remember that Google does not guarantee acceptance, publication or a fixed review time.
- Do not switch to generic product feedback solely because a geographic correction is still pending.
A practical decision checklist
- Is the problem temporary and happening now? Use navigation’s Report control when safe.
- Is the road itself wrong in the map database? Submit a road correction through Edit the map or Update road.
- Is the closure shown in a crisis alert? Open the crisis sheet and choose Navigation impact → Report road closure.
- Are you checking someone else’s temporary report? Answer Is this still here? with Yes or No when Maps asks near the marker.
- Are you checking your own persistent correction? Review the contributions or edits list on a phone or tablet.
- Is the app feature itself broken? Use product feedback, while routing map-data errors through the road-edit workflow.
