Report a suspicious GTA 6 (GTA VI) advertisement first on the service that displayed it, then verify the claim through Rockstar’s official channels. If you are in the United States, also file a report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If you clicked, paid, entered a password, or installed a file, switch immediately to account, payment, and device recovery.
Do not click the offer again to investigate it. Save enough evidence to identify the ad, report it using the platform’s current fraud or phishing option, and contact banks or account providers through their official apps or websites—not through links in the ad.

What to do when you see a fake GTA 6 ad
Use this order so you preserve evidence without giving the scammer more information:
- Capture the ad safely. Take a screenshot or screen recording showing the creative, advertiser or account name, platform, date, visible URL, price, and any claims about release dates, pre-orders, giveaways, beta access, or downloads. Do not click a suspicious destination just to collect details.
- Copy the destination address without reopening it. If your browser or app exposes a link preview, record the URL exactly. Keep receipts, transaction IDs, emails, direct messages, and order confirmations if money or credentials were involved.
- Use the platform’s own report control. Choose the closest scam, phishing, fraud, or deceptive-ad reason. Google’s documented process is an example; other services use different labels and menus.
- Check the claim independently. Compare it with Rockstar’s official GTA VI site, Rockstar Newswire, Rockstar Propaganda email newsletter, and Rockstar Support information. A sponsored search result or an ad that looks professional is not proof that the seller is authorized.
- Report consumer fraud where you live. In the United States, submit the details at ReportFraud.ftc.gov as well as reporting the ad to its platform.
- Start recovery if you interacted. Contact your payment provider, change exposed or reused passwords, turn on two-step verification, and scan any device that may have received a malicious file.
Reporting an ad is not a guarantee that it will disappear, that money will be returned, or that an authority will contact you individually.

How to tell whether a GTA VI pre-order or giveaway is legitimate
Check Rockstar’s own announcement and purchase information
Rockstar’s support guidance identifies its official GTA VI website, Rockstar Newswire, and Rockstar Propaganda newsletter as places to find pre-order information. Its support information also lists the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Rockstar Store, and selected retailers or third-party storefronts depending on country. Availability and storefront listings can change, so check the current support page rather than relying on an old screenshot or cached post.
Use a fresh browser tab or the official app to navigate to those services yourself. Do not use the button or shortened link in an advertisement. A seller outside Rockstar’s published channels deserves extra scrutiny, especially when it demands cryptocurrency, gift cards, wire transfers, or a “deposit” to reserve a supposedly limited copy.
Inspect the real sender and destination
Rockstar’s security advice warns about messages that imitate official emails. Its listed official email domains are rockstargames.com, newsletter.rockstargames.com, store.rockstargames.com, and support.rockstargames.com. Inspect the complete address, not only the display name. An address such as rockstargames.example.com is not the same as an address ending in an official Rockstar domain, and a look-alike spelling can hide a different owner.
Check the destination shown by your browser before opening it. Misspellings, extra hyphens, unrelated top-level domains, URL shorteners, and a login page on an unfamiliar domain are warning signs. Never provide a Rockstar password, recovery code, payment-card number, or one-time verification code through a link in an unsolicited ad or message.
Common warning signs
| Claim or behavior | Why it needs verification | Safer response |
|---|---|---|
| “Pre-order GTA 6 today” from a site not listed by Rockstar | The storefront may be unauthorised or collecting payment details. | Leave the ad and check Rockstar’s current purchase information independently. |
| Guaranteed beta, early-access, or “leaked” download | Scammers often use exclusivity to rush a click or install. | Do not download files; verify announcements through Rockstar’s official channels. |
| A giveaway requiring your Rockstar login | The form may be a credential-phishing page. | Do not sign in. Report it as phishing and change your password if you already submitted it. |
| Urgent countdown, limited stock, or a price far below normal | Pressure discourages independent checking and can conceal a payment scam. | Save evidence, close the page, and verify through an official store. |
| An email that uses Rockstar branding but an unfamiliar sender domain | Brand graphics and a matching display name can be copied. | Inspect the actual sender and links; do not reply or use embedded buttons. |
Preserve evidence without exposing yourself
What to record
- A screenshot or screen recording of the full ad and any account or advertiser name.
- The platform and placement, such as a feed, search result, video, message, or pop-up.
- The date and approximate time you saw it.
- The visible destination URL, redirect address, phone number, email address, or messaging handle.
- The exact offer: alleged release or access date, price, payment method, giveaway rules, and requested information.
- Order confirmations, receipts, transaction IDs, wallet addresses, emails, and messages if you paid or communicated with the operator.
Store copies somewhere the scammer cannot alter, such as a local folder and a trusted cloud account. Redact unrelated personal information before sharing a screenshot publicly. Do not forward a malicious file to friends or colleagues as a warning; send a text description or a link to the platform’s report confirmation instead.
What not to do
- Do not click repeatedly, reply, argue with the advertiser, or try to “test” a download.
- Do not send a small payment to check whether the seller is real.
- Do not enter dummy credentials: a phishing page can still capture device or browser information.
- Do not delete the only receipt or message before saving a copy.
Report the ad on the service where it appeared
Google ads and services
Google’s documented flow uses the ad’s More or Info control. Select Report ad, choose the reason that best describes the problem, and complete the form. For a fake GTA VI offer, scam or phishing is generally the relevant policy concern when the ad tries to steal credentials or money. Google also provides a separate legal-violation route for matters such as counterfeit or trademark claims; use that route only when it accurately describes what you can substantiate.

Google states that submitting a report does not block the ad. If you continue seeing it, use the report control again or block it using the service’s available controls after preserving your evidence. Menus can change, so follow the labels currently shown in your account.

For a different service, open the ad’s current report menu and select the closest available option for scam, fraud, phishing, impersonation, or deceptive advertising. The exact control and category vary by platform and account type; do not assume Google’s button sequence applies elsewhere. If the ad appears in a private message, report both the message and the sender profile when the service allows it.
Describe the specific behavior rather than making a conclusion you cannot prove: for example, “This page requests a Rockstar password and redirects to an unrelated domain,” or “The seller claims to represent Rockstar but is not listed in Rockstar’s purchase information.” Include the saved URL and screenshots through the platform’s official form, not by replying to the advertiser.
Which report reason should you choose?
| Situation | Most fitting category | Details to include |
|---|---|---|
| Login or payment harvesting | Scam, phishing, or fraud | Requested credentials, payment method, destination domain, and screenshots. |
| Impersonation of Rockstar or a retailer | Impersonation or deceptive advertising | Displayed identity, actual sender or URL, and the official channel you used for comparison. |
| Suspected counterfeit merchandise or trademark misuse | Legal violation or counterfeit/trademark route, if available | Specific copied marks, product listing, seller identity, and why it appears unauthorised. |
| Malware or a dangerous download | Malware, harmful content, or scam | File name, download URL, device symptoms, and whether the file was opened. |
Report the scam to the FTC in the United States
The Federal Trade Commission’s consumer-reporting route is ReportFraud.ftc.gov. It is a U.S. federal reporting channel, not a replacement for the platform report. Provide what happened, how the ad reached you, the advertiser or seller details, URLs, dates, amounts, and copies of relevant communications. The form allows you to provide contact information if you want to help with follow-up.
The FTC explains that reports help it build cases, identify patterns, and educate the public. It does not promise that an individual report will produce a personal response, remove the ad, or recover your money. Keep your confirmation and any case details with your evidence.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteU.S. data gives context but does not measure GTA VI scams specifically: in a 2026 release, the FTC said more than 40% of people who reported losing money to a social-media scam in 2025 said they had ordered something they saw in a social-media ad. The same release said people reported losing more money to scams on Facebook alone in 2025 than to scams by text or email. Those figures cover reported social-media scams generally, not the prevalence of fake GTA VI advertisements.

If you entered a Rockstar password or other credentials
Change the password from an official channel
- Open the Rockstar account site or app by typing the address yourself or using a trusted bookmark.
- Change the exposed password immediately. Do not follow a reset link from the suspicious message.
- Change the same password anywhere else you reused it, beginning with email accounts that can reset other services.
- Review recovery email addresses, phone numbers, active sessions, linked accounts, and recent security notifications. Remove anything you do not recognise.
- Enable two-step verification. Rockstar recommends unique passwords and two-step verification and suggests using a password manager; neither is required merely to report an ad.
If you can no longer sign in, use Rockstar’s official support process from support.rockstargames.com. Do not pay anyone who claims to be able to “unlock” the account through an ad or direct message.
Protect your email and payment accounts
An attacker who controls your email can reset gaming and financial accounts. Change the email password, enable two-step verification, check forwarding rules and recovery methods, and review sign-in activity. If you entered card details, contact the card issuer using the number on the card or its official app and ask what monitoring, replacement, dispute, or cancellation options apply.
If you paid a fake seller
Contact the bank, card issuer, payment app, money-transfer service, or other provider promptly through an official channel. Tell it that the transaction was connected to a scam and ask which reversal, dispute, or account-freezing options are available. Gather the transaction ID, amount, date, recipient, screenshots, and correspondence. The FTC cautions that money sent to a scammer may be difficult to recover, so speed matters.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not send an additional “refund fee,” verification payment, tax, or cryptocurrency transfer to release the first payment. A follow-up caller promising recovery may be the same scam network or a second scam. Verify every contact independently through the provider’s published app or website.

- Disconnect the device from the internet if you suspect active remote access or rapidly spreading malware. Keep it powered on only when needed to preserve evidence unless a trusted technician advises otherwise.
- Update the device’s security software and operating system from their official settings.
- Run a complete security scan and follow the security tool’s instructions to quarantine or delete identified threats.
- From a different, trusted device, change passwords that may have been exposed and sign out other sessions.
- Watch for new browser extensions, unfamiliar applications, disabled security tools, pop-ups, unusual battery or network use, and account alerts.
- Seek help from the device manufacturer, your organisation’s IT team, or a trusted security professional if the scan finds malware or you cannot regain control.
The FTC advises updating security software, scanning the device, and deleting identified problems when a scammer has accessed a device. Do not install a second “cleaner” offered by the same pop-up or message.
Where to report outside the United States
The FTC route is specific to U.S. consumers. If you live elsewhere, report the ad to the platform first and use your country’s consumer-protection or cybercrime authority. Banks, card issuers, and payment services can also explain local dispute deadlines. Use the authority’s official website or phone number found independently; do not rely on contact details in the advertisement.

Situations that need different responses
You only saw the ad
Save a screenshot and URL, report it on the platform, and verify any claim through Rockstar. No password or payment recovery is needed if you did not interact beyond viewing it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
You clicked but entered nothing
Close the page, do not download anything, and report the ad. Clear any downloaded files you did not intentionally request, check browser downloads and extensions, and run a security scan if a file opened or the page triggered warnings.
You entered a password but did not pay
Change that password and every reused copy immediately, secure your email account, enable two-step verification, review active sessions, and report the phishing ad. Treat the account as exposed even if nothing unusual has happened yet.
You paid but did not share a password
Contact the payment provider promptly, preserve the receipt and seller communications, report the ad and the transaction, and monitor statements for additional charges. A payment scam can continue even when no gaming account was involved.
You gave both credentials and payment details
Run the account-security and payment-recovery steps together. Prioritise email and financial accounts, because control of either can enable further resets or charges. Keep a timeline of every call, password change, dispute, and report.

Preventing the next fake GTA VI offer
- Bookmark official Rockstar pages instead of following ad links.
- Use a unique password for your Rockstar account and enable two-step verification.
- Keep your operating system, browser, and security software updated.
- Be skeptical of urgency, “secret” access, leaked builds, and unusually cheap pre-orders.
- Check the full domain and sender address before signing in.
- Use a credit card or payment method with established dispute processes when buying from a legitimate, independently verified storefront; avoid irreversible payment methods for unsolicited offers.
- Tell family members or gaming groups what happened without reposting the malicious link.
Rockstar’s official channels and support information remain the reference points for GTA VI announcements and pre-order availability. Product availability and storefront details can change, so re-check them whenever a new offer appears.
