But that edit is not a reliable way to replace the video currently going out in your church’s live program. If an encoder or production tool is generating the broadcast, change the content there. YouTube does not specify how quickly playlist edits appear to people who already have the playlist open, so check the result on a separate viewer device before relying on it.
First, identify what viewers are watching
A YouTube playlist and a live broadcast are separate things. A playlist is a collection of videos that viewers can play in sequence; a live program is the feed sent to YouTube by the church’s encoder or production workflow. YouTube documents playlist editing separately from live-stream settings, and does not describe a channel playlist as a control for replacing media in an active broadcast.
If viewers are playing the channel playlist
Edit the playlist on YouTube or in YouTube Studio. You can change its order or remove an entry. The official guidance does not establish whether viewers who already have it open will see the edit immediately, after the current video, or only after refreshing.
If the church is broadcasting a live program
Make an on-air change in the production tool or encoder that is sending the stream. Editing a channel playlist should not be treated as changing the program being transmitted. During a rehearsal or low-risk test, verify the result from a separate device signed in as an ordinary viewer.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Edit the playlist while the broadcast is live
- Sign in to the channel account. Use the account that owns the playlist or has permission to manage the channel.
- Open the playlist. On YouTube, open the playlist you want to change and select Edit beside the section you need to change.
- Reorder a video or Short. Drag it up or down to the desired position.
- Remove an item. Open that entry’s More menu and choose Remove from .
- Confirm what viewers see. Keep the live output in view and check the playlist from a separate viewer device after making a small change. Do not promise an immediate update to people already watching; YouTube’s help pages do not specify the propagation timing.
Starting from YouTube Studio
In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Playlists, open the playlist menu, and choose Edit on YouTube. Studio’s playlist controls also support changing visibility and adding videos from search, a URL, or the channel library. Playlist editing may not be available on supervised accounts.
What a playlist edit will—and will not—change
- Playlist order and membership: You can reorder entries and remove videos from the playlist. This edits the list, not necessarily the live program.
- Active broadcast content: If an encoder or production tool is generating the feed, change the media in that system. The reviewed YouTube documentation does not say that a channel playlist edit changes encoder output.
- Existing viewers’ playlist view: YouTube does not document how quickly an edit reaches people who already have the playlist open, or whether a currently playing item is interrupted or allowed to finish. Test the exact setup.
- DVR: DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a livestream; it is not a playlist replacement feature. YouTube says a DVR change made during a stream applies only to viewers who start playing after the change.
Protect the service and its recording
For a live church service, rehearse playlist changes and production changes separately. Use a second device to confirm both the public playlist and the actual live feed, since they may be controlled by different systems.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends making a local archive as a backup. Do not rely on the automatic archive as the only copy of a service recording.
