Start with Meshy’s Analyze Printability check, then use Repair Printability if it reports a problem. If the result still fails inspection or slicing, use Meshy for Blender’s Make Manifold cleanup or a targeted repair tool, and verify the mesh again. A repair command is an attempt—not proof that a model is print-ready.
What holes and non-manifold geometry mean
A hole is an open boundary in the surface. For a print-oriented solid, the outer surface generally needs to form a closed, watertight volume. Non-manifold geometry is a different class of topology problem: parts of a mesh may not define a clean, unambiguous surface. A model can have holes, non-manifold edges, or both.

Other problems can look similar but need separate checks. Meshy’s Blender analysis treats self-intersections, degenerate geometry, non-planar faces, and thickness as distinct checks. A mesh that looks closed can still have intersecting surfaces or thin, zero-thickness regions.
Repair it in the Meshy workspace first
1. Analyze the model
- Select the model in the Meshy workspace.
- Open Print and choose Analyze Printability.
- Review the results for watertightness, non-manifold edges, holes or boundary loops, and degenerate faces. Meshy marks checks as Healthy, Warning, or Error.
Meshy’s Help Center says this analysis is free. Its documented checks help identify whether the issue is an open boundary or another geometry defect; they do not guarantee that every possible print problem will be detected.

2. Run Repair Printability if the analysis flags an issue
Start Repair Printability from the analysis results. Meshy says the repair runs in the background and costs 10 credits. Its Help Center lists GLB, STL, and OBJ inputs up to 100 MB, with the repaired file returned in the input format. These are Meshy-stated terms documented on 3 July 2026; availability and limits can change.
3. Protect textured work and inspect the output
Meshy warns that changing geometry invalidates UV maps, so its repair removes existing textures. Keep the original file if its appearance matters. Inspect the repaired geometry before replacing a textured asset; Meshy says AI Texturing can be used afterward to restore textures.

Use Meshy for Blender when workspace repair is not enough
Meshy’s Blender plugin provides analysis and cleanup tools. Meshy’s documentation says it has tested the plugin with Blender 4.2.6, 5.0.1, 5.1.0, and 5.2.0; that statement does not establish compatibility with every Blender version.

- Run Meshy’s model analysis before changing the mesh. Its checks include solidity, intersections, degenerate geometry, non-planar faces, and thickness.
- Use Clean Up → Make Manifold in Meshy for Blender.
- Review the cleanup report, which records changed vertex, edge, and face counts.
- Run the analysis checks again and inspect any remaining warnings or errors.
Meshy says Make Manifold can remove loose geometry and interior faces, merge duplicate vertices within a threshold, fill holes, fix non-manifold edges and vertices, and make normals consistent. Because cleanup changes geometry, examine the model rather than assuming the operation resolved every defect.

Choose a repair route that fits the problem

Meshy describes the Blender, Meshmixer, and Microsoft 3D Builder approaches in its slicer troubleshooting guide. Pick based on what the analysis flags and whether preserving surface detail or textures is important.
Verify the model in the slicer
- Re-run the mesh analysis after cleanup and confirm that the relevant checks no longer report the original problem. Meshy’s Model Cleanup documentation specifically advises running checks again after cleaning.
- Open the exported model in your slicer and inspect its preview for walls, infill, and top and bottom layers. Meshy’s hollow-model guidance recommends checking for zero non-manifold edges and reviewing the slicer preview.
- If the output appears hollow, check the slicer’s settings as well as the mesh. Meshy notes that 0% infill can produce a hollow print even when the mesh itself is not the cause.
What to try when the problem remains
Open holes or non-manifold edges remain
Run analysis again to identify what is still flagged, then try Make Manifold or a targeted cleanup. Confirm watertightness and non-manifold results after the next repair rather than relying on a tool’s name or completion status.

Surfaces intersect
Self-intersections are distinct from open holes. Meshy’s slicer guide says intersecting surfaces may need a Boolean Union or a repair tool. Recheck the model after combining or repairing the geometry.

Use the thickness check in Meshy for Blender’s analysis. There is no single suitable wall thickness for every model: the right value depends on the model’s scale and the printer.

Remeshing leaves floating parts or deep intersections
Meshy says remeshing can resolve many common topology issues, but heavy floating geometry or deep intersections may still require manual cleanup. Inspect those areas directly rather than repeating an automatic pass without checking what remains.
