The steps depend on the platform and what you mean by “remove.” In Apple TestFlight, an administrator can remove someone from one tester group, delete them from TestFlight for the app, or expire a build for everyone. In Google Play Console, an administrator can pause a testing track; a participant who wants to leave their own beta must use the Play Store’s Leave option.
Choose the right removal action
These actions have different scopes. Removing a person from one TestFlight group is not the same as deleting their TestFlight access across the app. Expiring a TestFlight build affects everyone using that build. Pausing a Google Play testing track ends that test, while leaving a beta is a self-service action for an individual participant.
| Platform and role | Action | Scope and effect |
|---|---|---|
| TestFlight administrator | Remove tester from a group | Stops access to new builds through that group; existing builds remain accessible until they expire. Apple’s group-removal instructions. |
| TestFlight administrator | Delete tester | Removes the tester more broadly from TestFlight for the app; already installed builds remain accessible until expiry. Apple’s deletion instructions. |
| TestFlight administrator | Expire a build | Prevents internal and external testers from installing that build. Apple’s build-expiration guidance. |
| Google Play administrator | Pause a testing track | Ends the test; testers stop receiving updates, but the app remains installed. Google Play Console Help. |
| Google Play participant | Leave the beta | Opts that participant out of the program. To use the public version, Google instructs users to uninstall the beta app and reinstall the public version. Google Play Help. |
Remove a tester from an Apple TestFlight group
- In App Store Connect, select the app and open TestFlight.
- Under Internal Testing or External Testing, open the relevant group.
- Select the tester and choose Remove.
This removes the person from that group, not necessarily from TestFlight for the app as a whole. Apple says removed testers lose access to new builds in the TestFlight app but retain access to existing builds until those builds expire. See Remove testers from a group.
Delete a tester from TestFlight for the app
- In App Store Connect, select the app and open TestFlight.
- Choose Testers, then All.
- Select the tester and delete them.
Deletion blocks access to new builds, but a build the person has already installed remains available until it expires. Apple also says deleted testers count toward the tester limit until their build expires. For the official workflow, see Delete testers from TestFlight.

Stop everyone from installing a specific TestFlight build
If your goal is to withdraw one build rather than remove a particular person, expire that build:
- In App Store Connect, open the app’s TestFlight tab.
- Under Builds, choose the relevant platform and open the build.
- Click Expire Build.
Apple says an expired build can no longer be installed by internal or external testers. This is a build-level action, not a substitute for removing or deleting an individual tester. See Apple’s TestFlight guidance.
Pause a Google Play testing track as an administrator
- In Play Console, open the app and go to the relevant Open testing, Closed testing, or Internal testing track.
- If shown, click Manage track. Google notes that this step may not be needed, depending on the test and how many tests you are running.
- Near the top right, select Pause track.
Google says that after a test ends, testers no longer receive updates, but the app remains installed on their devices. The documented action ends a track; it does not establish that pausing uninstalls an app or immediately changes every tester’s installed copy. Follow Google Play Console’s test-management instructions.
Leave a Google Play beta as a tester
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile icon.
- Choose Manage apps & devices, then Beta.
- Select the app and tap Leave.
- To continue with the public version, uninstall the beta app and reinstall the public version, as Google instructs.
These are participant steps, not Play Console administrator controls. See Google’s instructions for leaving an app’s beta program.

Can a Google Play administrator remove one named tester?
The Google Play Console guidance cited here explains how to pause a testing track, but does not establish a procedure for removing one named person from a tester list. Do not treat pausing the entire track as individual removal: it affects the test as a whole.
