First identify the band material: the Gear S3 Frontier originally came with silicone, while the Gear S3 Classic came with leather. Clean a silicone or rubber band with clean water and dry it thoroughly; clean leather with a soft, lint-free cloth, using only a slightly damp cloth if needed. Samsung advises against soap and cleaning agents.
Check which Gear S3 band you have
Samsung’s 2016 product information identifies the Frontier’s original band as silicone and the Classic’s as leather. The Gear S3 supports standard 22 mm watch bands, but check your watch model and the replacement band’s connector and fit before buying. A third-party or replacement band may use a different material from the original.

Clean a silicone or rubber band
- If practical, remove the band from the watch so you can clean it without wetting the watch.
- Rinse or wipe the band with clean water. Samsung’s general strap guidance recommends water for rubber and silicone and warns against soap, cleaning agents and abrasive materials.
- Dry the band thoroughly with a clean cloth before putting it back on or wearing the watch.
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch strap-cleaning guidance covers material care, but it is not a Gear S3-specific test of odor removal.

Clean a leather band conservatively
- Wipe the leather with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- If a dry cloth is not enough, slightly dampen the cloth with clean water and wipe gently. Do not soak or rinse the leather.
- Let the band dry in a ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Keep it away from heat and humid conditions.
Samsung’s Gear S3 manual cautions against exposing the leather band to water, direct sunlight, and hot or humid environments. The later general strap guidance permits a slightly damp cloth when necessary; the conservative approach is to use as little moisture as possible and never soak the band.
Prevent sweat from lingering
After exercise or sweating, clean your wrist and the band, then dry both thoroughly before wearing the watch again. Samsung states: “Clean your wrist and the watch strap or band after exercising or sweating.” See Samsung’s smartwatch wearing and cleaning guidance.

- Choose the cleaning method for the band’s material rather than treating leather like silicone.
- Do not use high-pressure water, abrasive materials, soap or household cleaning agents.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to heat, humidity and direct sunlight, particularly with leather.
What if the odor remains?
Samsung’s published care guidance does not establish that vinegar, alcohol, deodorizer or detergent safely removes odor from a Gear S3 band. Do not treat those as Samsung-approved methods. If the odor persists after appropriate cleaning and complete drying, replacing the band is a reasonable next step. The Gear S3 supports standard 22 mm bands, but verify your model, width and connector fit before purchase; a silicone band may be more practical for regular sweaty activity.
