Deep scratches and dents cannot be removed, according to RIMOWA. The company describes them as part of a case’s patina. For dust and dirt, use a damp cloth or non-abrasive sponge with clean water. If a mark is deep or damage affects how the suitcase works, request a RIMOWA repair assessment rather than trying to polish or reshape it at home.

RIMOWA’s official care FAQ says: “We like to consider any deep dents or scratches as the unique patina of your case, as these cannot be removed.” That guidance specifically addresses aluminium cases; RIMOWA does not provide a verified do-it-yourself method for removing deep dents or scratches.

How to clean dust or dirt safely
- Use a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge and clean water. Dampen the cloth or sponge; do not use an abrasive pad.
- Wipe the dusty or dirty area gently. Avoid treating the cleaning step as a way to erase a scratch or dent.
- Follow the care instructions for your suitcase’s material in the RIMOWA owner manual if you need material-specific guidance.
RIMOWA warns against scouring detergents; abrasive cloths or sponges; window-cleaning agents; vinegar-based cleaners and disinfectants; solvents; aggressive alcohols; petroleum distillates; and nail polish remover. Avoid using these as scratch treatments or general cleaners.

Why polishing or pushing out a dent is risky
RIMOWA’s published care guidance does not establish that abrasive polishing, scratch-removal kits, or improvised dent reshaping will safely repair its suitcases. Abrasives and some chemical cleaners are specifically discouraged, and a home attempt may further affect the finish or material. Do not use a scouring pad, solvent, or nail polish remover to try to remove a mark.
The owner manual and care FAQ do not phrase their cleaning advice identically on alcohol: the manual mentions isopropyl for stubborn or sticky residue, while the FAQ cautions against aggressive alcohols. Because that is limited, product-specific guidance—not a general recommendation to use alcohol—follow the manual for your model and situation.
When to request a RIMOWA repair assessment
For a deep mark, a dent, or damage that affects the suitcase’s function, start with RIMOWA’s repair request information. RIMOWA says owners can submit an online request and then arrange a store drop-off or send the request to its Care Experts. The company may assess and quote cosmetic repairs that are not covered by a guarantee; a cosmetic assessment is not a promise that the mark can be removed.

Check guarantee terms before arranging repair
Coverage depends on purchase date, the type of damage, and the applicable regional terms. RIMOWA’s US care-and-repair page says functional damage to suitcases purchased from July 25, 2022 is covered by its Lifetime Guarantee. That statement does not establish coverage for cosmetic wear and tear, earlier purchases, or every country. Check the terms that apply to your suitcase and location on RIMOWA Care and Repair before relying on coverage.
