Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Report it as phishing in your mail service, delete or remove it, then block the sender separately if reporting does not do that automatically. The steps below are for Gmail and Outlook.com; work or school accounts may use different reporting controls.
Before you remove a suspicious message
- Do not reply or use links, phone numbers, or attachments in the message.
- If a message sends you to a password prompt, go directly to the service’s website or app instead of entering credentials from that link. Google gives this advice for suspected phishing messages in its Gmail phishing guidance.
- Use your mail provider’s phishing-report option before deleting the message. Reporting helps the provider assess it; deleting alone does not report it.
Report and remove phishing in Gmail
Report the message on a computer
- Open Gmail and open the suspicious message.
- Select More next to Reply.
- Select Report phishing. Google notes that Gmail may also warn about suspicious messages or move them to Spam. See Avoid & report phishing emails.
Delete the reported message
After reporting, check Spam. Gmail’s reporting and spam controls place reported messages in Spam, where you can delete an individual message or clear spam. Google says that a copy of messages and attachments may be received and analyzed when users report spam or move email into Spam, to help prevent spam and abuse; see Report spam in Gmail.
Google’s cited phishing instructions do not establish that reporting blocks future messages from the sender. If unwanted mail continues, use Gmail’s separate blocking control for that sender.
Report and block phishing in Outlook.com
Report it as phishing
- Select the suspicious message in the message list.
- Select Report, then Report phishing, following Microsoft’s Outlook phishing guidance.
Block the sender separately
Microsoft states that reporting a message as phishing reports the sender but does not prevent additional messages. Add the sender to the blocked senders list separately. In Outlook.com, open Settings and use the blocked senders controls under the mail settings; labels and layout can change. Microsoft’s guidance distinguishes reporting from blocking, so verify the sender appears in the blocked list if you want to stop mail from that address.

Reporting, deleting, and blocking are different actions
| Service | Report phishing | What happens to the message | Does reporting block the sender? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gmail | Open message > More > Report phishing | Reported messages go to Spam, where you can delete them. | Not established by Google’s cited phishing instructions; block separately if needed. |
| Outlook.com | Select message > Report > Report phishing | Microsoft’s cited guidance does not specify that reporting deletes or moves the message. | No. Microsoft says blocking must be done separately. |
These instructions describe consumer Gmail and Outlook.com. A workplace or school account may have administrator-managed reporting tools or different behavior; use your organization’s process if one is provided. A failed email authentication check alone does not prove a message is malicious, as Microsoft cautions in its Outlook guidance.
