Recommended Free Tools
You can edit or delete a Google Maps review that you wrote. On a computer, open Google Maps and go to Menu > Your contributions > Reviews; on the mobile app, open your profile, choose Your Profile, select the review, then choose Edit Review or Delete Review. You cannot directly delete another person’s review. If it violates Google’s policies, report it for Google to evaluate.
Choose the right Google Maps review workflow
The correct steps depend on who wrote the review and what you want to change. Google gives the author direct control over their own contribution. Everyone else—including a business owner—can only ask Google to assess another person’s review.

| Situation | Available action | Where to do it | What happens next |
|---|---|---|---|
| You wrote the review and want to change it | Edit the text, star rating or pictures | Google Maps on a computer or the Maps mobile app | Your revised review remains public; Google displays the date of the latest edit as the post date |
| You wrote the review and no longer want it posted | Delete your review | Google Maps on a computer or the Maps mobile app | Follow Google’s confirmation prompts |
| Someone else’s review violates policy | Report or flag the review | Google Maps; business owners can also use Business Profile or the Reviews Management Tool | Google evaluates the report; removal is not guaranteed |
| You simply dislike or disagree with a review | Do not report it on that basis alone | Not applicable | Google says disagreement or a negative opinion by itself is not a policy violation |
Cost and requirements
Editing, deleting and reporting a Google Maps review are free digital workflows inside Google Maps or Google Business Profile. You need access to the Google account connected with your own review, and a business owner needs access to the relevant verified Business Profile for owner tools. A phone, computer accessory, manual or paid service is not required.
Before you start, decide whether you want to preserve the review with an edit or remove it completely. If you may need the wording or pictures later, copy or save them before deleting. For a report, identify the specific policy concern rather than submitting a complaint simply because the rating is low.

How to edit or delete your own review on a computer
Use this route when you are signed in to the Google account that posted the review.
- Open Google Maps in a browser and sign in.
- Click Menu in the upper-left corner.
- Select Your contributions, then choose Reviews.
- Find the review you want to manage.
- Open the review’s More menu.
- Choose Edit review or Delete review.
- If you are editing, change the written text, star rating or attached pictures and follow the prompts to publish the update. If you are deleting, complete the confirmation steps.
The review list is tied to your signed-in account, so check that you are using the account that originally posted it. If the place has several branches or similarly named listings, open the review itself before changing anything so you do not edit a different contribution by mistake.
Edit versus delete
- Edit is appropriate when the experience or your assessment has changed, a factual detail needs correcting, or you want to remove or replace a picture without losing the review.
- Delete removes your posted contribution instead of creating a second review. Google’s instructions require confirmation; they do not promise a recovery option after deletion, so save any wording or images you may need before confirming.
Editing can be preferable when you want to acknowledge that a business resolved an issue or correct an accidental star rating. Make the revised text accurate and based on your genuine experience. Deleting is the cleaner choice when you no longer want the contribution publicly associated with your account.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Google says the date shown for an edited review is the date of the latest edit. Editing does not make the contribution anonymous: Google Maps reviews are public and cannot be posted anonymously.
How to edit or delete your own review in the mobile app
Google’s Maps help route for the app uses your profile rather than the desktop navigation menu.
- Open the Google Maps app and tap the profile button.
- Tap Your Profile.
- Select the review you want to manage.
- Choose Edit Review to revise it or Delete Review to remove it.
- Complete the on-screen instructions to post the edit or confirm deletion.
Labels can appear with different capitalization or placement after an app update, but the route remains the profile area, your profile, and the selected review. If the review is missing, switch to the Google account that originally submitted it and check that you are viewing contributions rather than only saved places.
On a phone, review the complete preview before tapping the final save or post control. Confirm that the intended star rating, text and photos are selected. If the app does not show the controls, update the view by reopening the listing and the review, then look for the review’s More menu.

What changes when you edit a Google Maps review?
An edit updates the existing contribution. It does not create a separate anonymous post or hide the identity of the original author. Google displays the date of the last edit as the review’s post date, which means readers may see a newer date even though the visit happened earlier.
Because the review is public while it remains posted, avoid including private contact details, identification numbers, home addresses or information about another person that you do not have permission to publish. Recheck the star rating and every attached image before submitting the revision; the edit flow allows those elements to be changed along with the text.
If you revise a review after a business responds, the existing contribution is still the item being displayed. Editing is not a way to conceal that you wrote it, and deleting is not a way to create an untraceable replacement. Keep any revised claims tied to what you actually experienced.
How to report someone else’s review in Google Maps
You cannot directly delete another person’s review, contact the reviewer through a delete workflow or force Google to remove it. Reporting asks Google to check whether the content violates its policies.

- Open the place’s listing in Google Maps.
- Scroll to the review you want Google to assess.
- Open the review’s More menu.
- Choose Flag as inappropriate.
- Select the reason that best describes the suspected policy violation and submit the report.
Report from the Google Maps app
- Open the place listing and locate the review.
- Tap the review’s More menu.
- Choose Report review.
- Select a reason and send the report.
Use the reason that matches the actual problem. A report is a request for policy review, not a guaranteed takedown. Google’s guidance says only reviews that violate its content policies are eligible for removal. A review can be harsh, inaccurate in your view or damaging to a business without automatically meeting that threshold.
Reporting is separate from replying publicly. A business can address a customer’s concerns in its normal response process while Google evaluates a report, but a public disagreement does not replace the policy review and does not guarantee removal.
When Google may remove a review—and when it will not
Google’s review systems are intended to represent genuine experiences. The company specifically advises: “Do not report a review just because you disagree with it or dislike it.” A low star rating or an unfavorable account of a real customer interaction is not, by itself, evidence of a violation.

A report is more appropriate when the content appears to fall under a policy category such as fake engagement, paid content, prohibited incentives, harassment or another rule identified in Google’s content policies. Describe the concrete conduct that concerns you rather than arguing only that the review is unfair.
- Appropriate basis: a suspected policy violation supported by details visible in the review or by relevant business records.
- Insufficient basis: the reviewer gave one star, criticized staff, described a problem the business disputes or expressed an opinion the owner does not share.
- Outcome: Google decides whether the policy threshold is met. The reporter cannot choose the result or promise removal.
Do not submit multiple reports simply to increase pressure. Select the most accurate reason, provide the requested details, and wait for the platform’s assessment. Google’s help guidance does not set a guaranteed decision date.
Business-owner process: report a review and track the case
Business owners have two official routes for a review written by someone else: the Business Profile and Google’s Reviews Management Tool.
Report through the Business Profile
- Open the verified Business Profile associated with the location.
- Open Read reviews.
- Find the review and select the report icon next to it.
- Choose the reason for reporting.
- Submit the report.
Use the Reviews Management Tool
- Open the Reviews Management Tool and select the relevant business.
- Start a new removal report.
- Choose the review you want Google to examine.
- Select the reason that matches the suspected policy violation.
- Submit the report and return to the tool later to check its status.
The management tool can show that a case is pending or that Google assessed the review without finding a policy violation. Google says evaluation typically takes several days. That is an approximate process description, not a guaranteed deadline.
Use the tool that matches your role. An ordinary Maps user can flag a review from the listing, while an owner can use the Business Profile and obtain case-status information in the management tool. Neither route gives the reporter a direct delete button for another person’s contribution.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How the one-time appeal works for eligible business cases
If Google assesses a reported review and finds no policy violation, the Reviews Management Tool may offer an appeal for eligible cases. Google’s instructions describe this as a one-time appeal.
- Open the Reviews Management Tool and select the business and case.
- Check whether the case is marked eligible for appeal.
- Submit the appeal through the tool, following the reason and evidence prompts.
- Wait for Google’s decision, which is sent by email according to Google’s instructions.
Eligibility matters: an appeal is not an automatic second review for every report. Keep the submission focused on the policy issue and the facts supporting it. Do not submit repeated reports expecting them to function as multiple appeals, and do not promise a successful outcome to a customer or staff member. Google does not guarantee that a review will be removed or that an appeal will change the decision.

Reviews, incentives and business-conduct reports
Google prohibits incentives intended to manipulate reviews. That includes paying for a review or offering something in exchange for posting, changing or removing a review. The rule applies whether the requested result is positive or negative.
There are two different reporting targets:
- Specific review: report the review itself through the review’s Flag as inappropriate or Report review control, or through the business-owner tools.
- Business conduct: if the concern is that a business is offering incentives or otherwise manipulating reviews, use Google’s route for reporting the business conduct rather than treating every affected review as a separate ordinary complaint.
Do not offer a refund, discount, gift or other benefit in exchange for a customer revising or deleting criticism. Ask for honest feedback without conditioning it on a particular rating or outcome. A request to remove a negative review in exchange for compensation is prohibited even if the customer originally had a genuine experience.
Comparing edit, delete and report options
| Option | Who controls it? | Best use | Follow-up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edit your own review | The original author | Correct text, rating or photos while keeping the contribution | It stays public and shows the latest edit date |
| Delete your own review | The original author | Remove the contribution entirely | Confirm deletion; Google does not promise recovery |
| Report another review in Maps | Any user can request review | Suspected policy violation | Google evaluates it; no guaranteed removal |
| Business Profile or Reviews Management Tool | Authorized business owner | Manage a review case and monitor status | Evaluation typically takes several days; eligible cases may have one appeal |
The central distinction is control. Authors can directly edit or delete their own work. Reporters can only request a policy assessment, and business owners receive additional status and appeal tools without receiving authority to erase a customer’s review themselves.
Troubleshooting when the review controls are missing
You cannot find your review
- Confirm that Google Maps is signed in to the account that posted it.
- On desktop, open Menu > Your contributions > Reviews rather than searching only the business listing.
- In the app, use profile button > Your Profile and open the reviews section.
- Check the exact place listing, especially if the business moved, changed names or has multiple locations.
You are trying to remove a review written by someone else
There is no owner-side delete button for another person’s contribution. Use the report workflow only when you can identify a possible policy violation. If the issue is a factual dispute, prepare a calm public response rather than filing a report solely because the review is negative.
The interface does not match these labels
Google can change Maps navigation, capitalization and button placement by app version, account or region. Look for the equivalent More, Edit, Delete, Flag as inappropriate or Report review controls inside the review. The official Google Maps and Business Profile help pages should be checked if your account shows a materially different route.
A report has not produced a decision
Review evaluation can take several days. Check the Reviews Management Tool for a pending status before submitting another report. If Google records no policy violation, use the one-time appeal only when the case is marked eligible.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou want to stay anonymous
Google says Maps reviews are public and cannot be anonymous. Editing changes the displayed post date to the latest edit date, but it does not hide the author’s identity. Remove private information from the text and photos before posting or revising.

Quick decision checklist
- I wrote it and want to correct it: open your review and choose Edit review or Edit Review.
- I wrote it and want it gone: open your review and choose Delete review or Delete Review, then confirm.
- Someone else wrote it and it violates policy: report it with the specific policy reason.
- Someone else wrote it and I merely dislike it: do not report it on that basis alone.
- I own the business: use the Business Profile or Reviews Management Tool, monitor the status, and appeal once if Google marks the case eligible.
- I am considering an incentive: do not offer one for posting, revising or removing a review.
- I need the original wording: save a copy before confirming deletion.
These procedures reflect Google’s English-language help guidance available on October 13, 2026. Google may change interface labels, policy wording or appeal availability by account, region or product update.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a business owner delete a Google Maps review?
No. An owner cannot directly delete a review written by someone else. The owner can report it through the Business Profile or Reviews Management Tool if it appears to violate Google policy. Google makes the removal decision.
How do I edit a Google review I wrote?
On a computer, open Google Maps and choose Menu > Your contributions > Reviews. Open the review’s More menu and choose Edit review. In the app, open the profile button, choose Your Profile, select the review and tap Edit Review.
How do I delete my own Google Maps review?
Open your review from Menu > Your contributions > Reviews on desktop, or from profile button > Your Profile in the app. Use the review’s More menu, choose Delete review or Delete Review, and confirm.
Will editing a review hide the original date or my name?
No. Google says the date of the latest edit appears as the review’s post date, and Maps reviews are public and cannot be anonymous.
How long does Google take to review a reported business review?
Google says evaluation typically takes several days. That is an approximate timeframe, not a guaranteed deadline. Check the Reviews Management Tool for a pending or completed status.
What can I do if Google says a reported review does not violate policy?
For eligible business cases, the Reviews Management Tool may provide a one-time appeal. Submit it through the tool and wait for the result by email. An appeal does not guarantee removal.
Can I report a review just because it is unfair or negative?
Google advises not reporting a review merely because you disagree with it or dislike it. A negative rating or disputed account is not automatically a policy violation.
Are discounts or refunds allowed in exchange for changing a review?
No. Google prohibits incentives to post, revise or remove reviews. Do not condition a refund, discount, gift or other benefit on a particular review outcome.
The Bottom Line
If you wrote the review, manage it from your own Google Maps contributions: edit the text, rating or photos, or delete the contribution. If someone else wrote it, you cannot erase it yourself; report it only when you can point to a Google policy violation. Business owners can track reports in the Reviews Management Tool and may receive one eligible appeal, but Google controls the decision and does not promise a removal or a fixed timeline.
