Keep ASUS utilities that provide hotkeys, diagnostics, fan or performance controls, battery-care features, or update functions until you have confirmed your exact model does not depend on them. Use Windows performance and storage tools after the software cleanup, and reserve a clean boot for diagnosing a specific conflict rather than for routine debloating.
What counts as bloatware on a Vivobook?
“Bloatware” is not a precise Windows category. On a Vivobook it usually means preinstalled trials, promotional utilities, duplicate media or support apps, and programs that launch or run in the background without a role in your daily work. An ASUS-branded utility is not automatically bloatware: some models use ASUS software for keyboard hotkeys, hardware diagnostics, fan modes, battery charging limits, device settings, or driver and firmware updates.

Start with the outcome you want. If the problem is a slow login, disabling a startup entry may be enough and leaves the application available when you open it manually. If you never use an application, uninstalling it removes its files and normally reduces its background footprint. If a control is model-specific, removing its utility can take away that control even though Windows itself continues to run.

There is no universal Vivobook performance percentage to expect from debloating. Microsoft and ASUS publish the procedures, but they do not publish one benchmark gain that applies to every Vivobook configuration. Results depend on the processor, memory, storage, Windows version, number of startup items, and what was installed on your particular machine.

Inventory the software before changing anything
A short inventory prevents the most common mistake: removing a component that controls a feature you actually use. Record the application name, publisher, and your reason for keeping or removing it. Also note whether you use any of the following:
- Keyboard hotkeys for brightness, volume, airplane mode, or other hardware controls.
- ASUS diagnostics or support tools.
- Fan, thermal, or performance-mode controls.
- Battery-care or charging-limit features.
- ASUS driver, firmware, or update utilities.
Take a screenshot or write down the current startup list before disabling entries. If you later need to undo a change, the original state is much easier to reconstruct when you know exactly what was changed.
Classify each entry by risk
- Clearly optional: a trial, advertisement, game, duplicate media tool, or application you recognize and never use.
- Optional but feature-linked: an ASUS control or support application whose value depends on your model and habits.
- Leave in place unless verified: a driver, hardware component, chipset package, touchpad or hotkey component, security software, or an item whose purpose you cannot identify.
Do not delete random ASUS folders from File Explorer. Removing files outside the normal uninstall process can leave services, registry entries, or dependencies behind and can break hardware controls.

Windows 11 provides the routine removal path ASUS documents for notebooks. Use it for applications you have identified as unnecessary.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for an app by name, or sort the list to review it systematically.
- Open the app’s three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the application’s own removal wizard if one appears.
- Restart when Windows or the uninstaller requests it.
After the restart, confirm that the application is gone from Installed apps and test the features you care about, such as hotkeys or a battery setting. Remove one small group of clearly optional programs at a time rather than making dozens of changes at once; that makes a problem traceable.
Use the Windows 10 path when applicable
On Windows 10, the equivalent ASUS-documented route is:
- Open Settings.
- Choose Apps, then Apps & features.
- Select the application in the list.
- Choose Uninstall and follow the removal prompts.
The principle is the same on both versions: uninstall through Windows rather than deleting program directories. If an entry offers only repair or modify options, check the publisher’s uninstaller and avoid removing shared components whose purpose you cannot verify.

Should you uninstall MyASUS?
MyASUS is optional only after you check which functions you use. ASUS describes it as preinstalled on compatible computers and says it provides device settings, diagnostics, and support functions. Some Vivobook owners use those controls regularly; others never open the application.
Keep it when you rely on ASUS controls
- You use built-in diagnostics or ASUS support workflows.
- You change device settings that Windows does not expose directly.
- You use a model-specific fan, performance, or battery-care feature through the app.
Remove it when its functions are unnecessary
If you do not use those features and want to reduce installed software, remove MyASUS from Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10, using the same uninstall process described above. Before doing so, record any settings you may want to reproduce later and verify that your model does not require the app for a control you depend on.
Removing MyASUS is not a universal speed fix. The practical trade-off is convenience and model-specific support versus a smaller application footprint. If a hotkey, diagnostic, or battery feature stops working after removal, reinstall the ASUS software intended for your exact model rather than downloading an unrelated package.
Reduce the programs that start with Windows
Microsoft notes that apps running at startup can slow boot time and increase background usage. Disabling an entry is different from uninstalling it: the program remains installed and can normally be opened on demand.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open Windows Startup Apps. You can search for “Startup apps” from the Start menu and open the matching settings page.
- Review the list and sort it by Startup impact when that column is available.
- Turn off programs you do not need immediately after signing in.
- Leave hardware, security, input, and feature-control entries enabled unless you have verified their purpose.
- Restart the Vivobook. ASUS says the change takes effect after the next boot.
Good candidates are launchers, meeting tools, cloud utilities you do not use, and update checkers that do not need to run at login. If you use a cloud-sync program for work, disabling it may improve boot time while delaying synchronization; choose based on that consequence rather than on the impact label alone.
When a startup change causes a symptom
If a hotkey, synchronization task, security notification, or other expected function disappears, return to Startup Apps and re-enable the last item you changed. Restart and test again. Keep a short change log so you do not have to guess which entry was responsible.
Stop unnecessary background activity
Some applications continue background processes even when you are not using them. Microsoft says turning off background activity can improve performance. This setting is available only for apps that expose the control; it is not a universal switch for every desktop program.

- Find the application and open its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options when that option is provided.
- Under background permissions, set the app to Never.
For apps that do not show Advanced options, use their own preferences or disable their startup entry instead. Do not disable background operation for a security tool, backup process, accessibility utility, or synchronization service you deliberately rely on.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose visual effects and power settings deliberately
Adjust visual effects for responsiveness
Windows visual effects consume system resources. On a memory-constrained or heavily loaded Vivobook, reducing them can make menus and window operations feel more responsive.
- Search Windows for Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
- Open the performance options dialog.
- Select Adjust for best performance if you want Windows to minimize visual effects.
- Apply the change and use the computer normally for a while.
This is a responsiveness trade-off, not a replacement for removing an unwanted application. Animations and other visual polish may be reduced. If the appearance is too stark, return to the same dialog and enable only the effects you value.
Use Best performance power mode only when needed
Microsoft says Best performance can help when maximum performance is required, but it increases power consumption. On a laptop it can drain the battery faster and make the device run warmer.
Use it for demanding work while connected to power, then switch back to a balanced or battery-oriented mode for routine mobile use. If the Vivobook becomes noticeably hot, the fan runs constantly, or battery life drops sharply, the power-mode trade-off is the first setting to reconsider.
Free temporary storage and optimize drives
Low free space can make maintenance and updates harder, and unused applications consume storage even when they are not running. Microsoft documents two built-in maintenance routes.
Remove temporary files
- Open Settings and go to the Windows storage or temporary-files controls.
- Review the categories Windows identifies as removable.
- Select only data you are comfortable deleting, then confirm the cleanup.
Windows also documents Disk Cleanup as a maintenance option. Read the category descriptions before confirming; temporary installation files and recycle-bin contents can be removed, while personal downloads should be retained unless you have backed them up.

Optimize the drive
- Search for and open Defragment and Optimize Drives.
- Select the system drive.
- Choose Optimize and allow Windows to run the appropriate operation for that drive.
Use the built-in tool rather than installing a third-party “optimizer.” Windows chooses the maintenance operation appropriate to the storage type. Run it as routine maintenance, not as a guarantee of a particular speed increase.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use clean boot only to diagnose a conflict
A clean boot starts Windows with a restricted set of services and startup programs so you can isolate a conflict. It is not routine debloating. Microsoft warns that using the System Configuration utility might make a computer unusable without appropriate guidance, and that clean boot can temporarily remove functionality.
When a clean boot is justified
Consider it when the Vivobook is slow, unstable, or showing an error and ordinary uninstalling, startup controls, and background-permission changes have not identified the cause. A clean boot can show whether a non-Microsoft service or startup program is responsible.
Record every change
Before changing System Configuration, write down the current services and startup state. Do not rely on memory. The record is your restoration plan and prevents an investigation from becoming a permanent, unexplained configuration.
Restore normal startup after testing
Clean boot is temporary by design. Once you identify the conflicting item, restore normal startup, re-enable the services and startup entries you still need, and restart. Leaving the machine in a diagnostic state can disable features you expect, including vendor utilities and other background services.
Removal versus disabling: choose the least destructive change
| Choice | What changes | When it fits | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uninstall | Removes the application through Windows and frees the storage it occupied. | You recognize the app, do not use it, and have checked for feature dependencies. | The app and any controls it supplied are no longer available until reinstalled. |
| Disable startup | Keeps the app installed but prevents it from launching automatically at sign-in. | The app is occasionally useful but does not need to run at login. | Its first manual launch may take longer, and tasks that require it at sign-in will wait. |
| Set background permission to Never | Restricts background activity for apps that expose the Windows control. | You want the app available on demand without continual background processing. | Notifications, synchronization, or other background functions may be delayed. |
| Clean boot | Temporarily loads a minimal service and startup configuration for troubleshooting. | You are isolating a persistent conflict after routine settings have not found it. | Functionality can disappear during the test, and the original configuration must be restored. |
A safe order for a complete cleanup
Working in this order limits risk and makes each result measurable:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Inventory: record software, publishers, ASUS features, and current startup entries.
- Uninstall obvious unused applications: use Installed apps on Windows 11 or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Restart and test: verify hotkeys, sound, wireless networking, touchpad behavior, diagnostics, and any battery or fan controls you use.
- Disable unnecessary startup items: sort by impact and change only entries you understand.
- Restrict background permissions: set eligible, nonessential apps to Never.
- Adjust visual effects: use Adjust for best performance if interface responsiveness is still poor.
- Choose power mode: use Best performance for demanding, plugged-in work and a lower-power mode for battery use.
- Clean storage and optimize the drive: remove reviewed temporary files and run Defragment and Optimize Drives.
- Diagnose only if necessary: use a recorded clean-boot procedure for a persistent conflict, then restore normal startup.
Common mistakes and how to recover
Deleting ASUS folders instead of uninstalling
Recovery is uncertain because files, services, and dependencies may be left in an inconsistent state. Stop deleting files and use Windows Installed apps or Apps & features for the next change. If a model-specific control no longer works, reinstall the ASUS package intended for that exact Vivobook model.
Best Value
Removing every ASUS utility at once
This can eliminate hotkeys, diagnostics, fan controls, battery-care settings, or update functions you did not realize were connected. Reinstall only the utility associated with the missing feature, and keep a record of the working configuration.
Disabling security or hardware entries by impact label
Startup impact is a prioritization aid, not proof that an entry is unnecessary. Re-enable an item if a security function, input device, synchronization task, or hardware control stops working.
Leaving Best performance enabled on battery
If battery life falls or the laptop runs warmer, switch away from Best performance except when you specifically need it. Microsoft documents those costs as part of the setting.
Forgetting to reverse a clean boot
Return System Configuration to normal startup after testing and restart. A diagnostic configuration is not a permanent optimization.
How to tell whether the cleanup helped
Judge the result by the symptom you were trying to fix rather than by an invented percentage. Compare sign-in responsiveness, the time before the desktop becomes usable, fan activity at idle, available storage, and whether the applications you need open normally. Test once after each group of changes so you can identify which action mattered.
If startup remains slow after optional programs are disabled, check whether a required application is doing heavy work at login, whether Windows is completing updates, or whether a background synchronization or security scan is active. Do not remove drivers or hardware components simply because they appear unfamiliar. If the system is unstable, undo the most recent change before making another one.
When not to debloat further
Stop when the Vivobook meets your needs and its hardware controls work. More removal is not automatically better: an ASUS utility that consumes little day-to-day attention may still be valuable when you need diagnostics, a charging limit, a fan mode, or a supported update path. The right endpoint is a predictable system with only the software and background activity that serve your actual use.
