Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can remove a clip from the playlist feeding an OBS stream without ending the scheduled YouTube event—but YouTube’s event settings and OBS’s media playlist are separate controls. If you use OBS’s VLC Video source, edit that source’s playlist, not the YouTube event or the OBS scene’s Sources list. However, OBS does not document whether changing a playlist during playback avoids a reset, so uninterrupted playback is not guaranteed.
First, identify what “rotation” means
A scheduled YouTube live event is the event page and stream configuration. The rotation of prerecorded clips is typically controlled by the broadcasting software or media source sending video to YouTube. YouTube’s live-stream settings cover the event; OBS’s VLC Video source can hold and play a playlist. These are different layers, so there is no YouTube scheduled-event playlist control for an OBS media rotation. See YouTube’s Manage live stream settings and OBS’s Media Sources reference.

This workflow applies when the video is an entry in an OBS VLC Video playlist. If it is a standalone Media Source, a different scene, or another application’s playlist, use that source’s own controls instead.
Remove one playlist entry while leaving the stream connected
- Confirm the source. In OBS, locate the scene and identify the VLC Video source that contains the rotating files. Do not confuse it with a standalone Media Source or the entire scene.
- Keep the YouTube event and encoder connection running. Do not end the event in Live Control Room or disconnect the encoder just to change a playlist. YouTube documents event settings separately from external encoder media controls in Manage live stream settings.
- Open the VLC Video source’s properties and edit its playlist. Remove the unwanted file entry from the playlist controls for that source. OBS documents VLC Video playlist, loop, and shuffle behavior, but does not provide a guarantee that editing an active playlist leaves playback uninterrupted. The exact controls and result may depend on the installed OBS/VLC versions and playlist state.
- Do not click the Sources dock minus button to remove a single clip. That removes the selected source from the scene, rather than deleting one playlist item. OBS explains source management in its Sources Guide.
- Check the program output. Confirm what viewers see and whether the stream remains connected. If removal interrupts or resets playback, restore the playlist as needed and use a tested procedure before changing a live rotation again.
Can you guarantee viewers will not see an interruption?
No—not from the documented OBS VLC Video workflow alone. OBS’s reference explains playlist order, looping, shuffle, and visibility, but does not say whether removing the item currently playing, or editing the list during playback, preserves the playback position or avoids a reset. If uninterrupted output matters, reproduce your setup with the same OBS and VLC versions and playlist state before making the change on air.

A third-party OBS plugin called Media Playlist Source advertises editing a playlist without restarting its video. That is a claim to investigate, not a guarantee for your setup. Check its compatibility with your OBS version and test its live behavior before relying on it; see the plugin listing.
Choose the change that matches what you mean to remove
| Option | What it changes | Live-continuity evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Edit the VLC Video playlist | One entry in the playlist, if the clip is managed by that source | OBS documents playlist controls, but does not establish whether a live edit avoids a playback reset. |
| Remove the source from the OBS scene | The whole source, not just one file | OBS documents source removal; it is the wrong scope if you only want to remove a playlist entry. |
| Evaluate Media Playlist Source | A plugin-managed playlist, if installed and compatible | The plugin listing advertises editing without restarting video; test compatibility and behavior on your setup. |
Where to find the scheduled event in YouTube
If you need to verify the event—not edit the media rotation—YouTube says scheduled and current streams appear in YouTube Studio under Content > Live, with scheduled events available from Live Control Room’s Manage tab. The event’s settings do not replace the playlist controls in OBS. See Create a live stream via webcam.
