Start by identifying where the event came from. An invitation sent through the calendar service, an event you own, an item created automatically from email, and a whole calendar subscription require different actions. Use the provider’s junk or spam report when it is available, remove an invitation when you only need it off your calendar, and delete or cancel events you control. If dozens of events keep returning, remove the subscribed calendar or turn off the automatic email-event feature instead of deleting entries one at a time.
Before deleting anything: identify the source
A suspicious calendar item is not always a “calendar virus.” It may be an unsolicited invitation, a legitimate meeting that you do not recognize, an event created from an email, or a calendar that someone (or an app) subscribed you to. The source determines whether deleting one item solves the problem.

- One unsolicited invitation: use Report as spam, Report Junk, or Remove if your service offers it.
- An event you created or organize: delete the appointment or cancel the meeting. Cancellation can notify and remove it for attendees.
- A recurring event: read the scope choice. You may be removing only one occurrence, that occurrence and future ones, or the complete series.
- Repeated entries from an unfamiliar calendar: delete or unsubscribe from the calendar itself.
- An event that appeared after an email arrived: review the service’s automatic “events from email” setting, then remove the existing item separately.
Do not click links, open attachments, scan QR codes, or call phone numbers in an event description merely to investigate it. Remove the item using your calendar’s controls, and report the associated message when the service provides a reporting path.

Remove a suspicious event in Google Calendar
Google provides separate controls for reporting an eligible event, removing an invitation from your view, and deleting an event that you own or can edit. The labels below are for Google Calendar on a computer.

Report an event sent through Google Calendar as spam
- Open Google Calendar and open the suspicious event.
- Choose More actions.
- Select Report as spam and confirm.
Google limits this control to events sent from Google Calendar. An event created by another provider, app, or service cannot be reported through this Google control. Reporting removes the event from your calendar. For a recurring event, Google removes the entire series, so inspect the event carefully before confirming.
To reduce unsolicited invitations, Google recommends changing the invitation setting to Only if the sender is known. Google describes known senders as people in your contacts, people in your organization, or people with whom you have interacted. Google cautions that this choice might reveal to senders that they are not in your contacts. The setting and the spam-report behavior are described in Google’s guidance for inappropriate calendar invitations and events.
Remove an invitation without deleting it for everyone
- Open the invitation.
- Choose Remove or Remove from this calendar.
- Confirm the removal if Google asks.
This clears the invitation from your calendar and tells the organizer that you declined. It does not erase the event from other invitees’ calendars. Use this route when you do not own the event and your goal is simply to keep it out of your schedule. The distinction is documented in Google’s event-deletion instructions.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Delete an event you created or can edit
- Open the event in Google Calendar.
- Choose Delete.
- If it repeats, select the intended scope: only this event, this and following events, or all events in the series.
- Confirm.
Deleting an event you own removes it from your calendar and the calendars of invitees. A recurring event gives you a choice of scope; selecting “all events” also removes future occurrences. Do not use deletion as a substitute for removing an invitation you do not own unless you understand who will be affected.
Google says deleted or spam-reported items remain in that calendar’s trash for 30 days, according to current support guidance accessed in 2026. Trash is available on a computer, and each calendar has its own trash area. If you deleted the wrong event, open the relevant calendar’s trash within that period and restore it as Google describes in its delete-an-event help.

Remove a suspicious event in Outlook
Outlook treats a personal appointment and a meeting you organized differently. Microsoft’s documented web instructions apply to Outlook.com; work or school accounts, the new Outlook, and classic Outlook can show different menus.
Delete an appointment or cancel a meeting
- In Outlook.com, select the calendar item.
- For an appointment that is yours, choose Delete and confirm.
- For a meeting you organized, choose Cancel, optionally add a message, and send the cancellation.
- For a recurring item, choose the correct scope: This event, This and all following events, or All events in the series.
Deleting a personal appointment removes it from your calendar. Cancelling a meeting is a different action because it communicates the cancellation to attendees and can remove the meeting from their calendars. Microsoft’s complete Outlook.com procedure is at Create, modify, or delete a meeting request or appointment in Outlook.com.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you did not organize the meeting, you may be able to delete or decline your copy, but you cannot cancel the organizer’s meeting for everyone. Recurrence choices still matter: deleting only one occurrence leaves the rest of the series intact, while deleting all occurrences removes future entries from your calendar.
Report the suspicious Outlook message
Microsoft’s reviewed Outlook guidance documents phishing reporting for an email message, not a matching report-spam button on a calendar item. If the invitation arrived as a suspicious message:
- Select the message in the Outlook message list.
- Choose Report.
- Select Report phishing.
Reporting the message does not itself block the sender, according to Microsoft’s phishing and suspicious-behavior guidance. Remove or cancel the calendar item separately. Do not claim that reporting the message automatically deletes every related calendar entry; those are separate actions.

Stop Outlook from adding events from email
Outlook can create calendar entries or summaries from supported email types, such as reservations or deliveries. To control that behavior in Outlook on the web or Outlook.com:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Calendar.
- Open Events from email.
- Choose whether event summaries should appear on the calendar, in email, or both, using the options available to your account.
Microsoft notes that availability and supported event types vary by account and region. Changing this setting affects future automatic additions; it does not remove an event already created. Delete the existing item using the calendar steps above. See Microsoft’s Events from email documentation for the current account-specific options.
Remove a suspicious event from Apple Calendar or iCloud Calendar
Apple separates iCloud invitation reporting from removing a calendar subscription. If many unwanted entries appear together, deleting individual events will not address the source.
Report an invitation as junk on iCloud.com
- Go to icloud.com/calendar and sign in.
- Open the unwanted invitation.
- Choose Report Junk.
- Close the dialog.
Apple says the event is automatically deleted from calendars on all devices signed in to the same Apple Account where iCloud Calendar is enabled. That cross-device result applies to the same Apple Account; a different account or a calendar not using iCloud will not necessarily update.
Delete or report junk on iPhone
Apple’s cited iPhone instructions are for iOS 26 or later:

Menu names can differ on earlier iOS releases, so do not assume that an older iPhone presents the iOS 26 controls. Apple’s current procedure is in How to delete calendars and remove events on your iPhone.
Remove a subscribed spam calendar
A subscribed calendar can repopulate your schedule after you delete an individual event. Remove the subscription instead:
- Open the Calendars list on the iPhone.
- Tap the information button next to the unfamiliar calendar.
- Choose Delete Calendar or Unsubscribe, depending on how it was added.
- Confirm the removal.
Apple specifically advises deleting a calendar that you subscribed to unintentionally. The iOS 26-or-later steps and subscription guidance appear in Apple’s iPhone calendar-removal guide. Apple’s safety guidance on recognizing phishing and social engineering is available at Recognize and avoid social engineering schemes; use it to evaluate suspicious messages without interacting with links or phone numbers in the event.

Recurring-event dialogs are the easiest place to remove more than intended. Before confirming, match the option to the result you want:

| Choice | Result | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Only this event | Removes one occurrence; future and past occurrences remain. | One date is wrong or suspicious, but the series is legitimate. |
| This and following events | Ends the series from the selected occurrence forward. | The series becomes unwanted from a particular date. |
| All events in the series | Removes every occurrence covered by the service’s series rules. | The entire series is spam or you intentionally created it and no longer need it. |
Google explicitly removes the entire series when a recurring event is reported as spam. Outlook.com presents the three scope choices above for recurring appointments and meetings. Apple’s subscription case is different: removing the calendar stops the source of many events rather than selecting a recurrence scope for each item.

When events keep coming back
Look for a calendar you do not recognize
In Apple Calendar, repeated entries commonly indicate a subscribed calendar. Remove or unsubscribe from that calendar. In Google Calendar or Outlook, inspect the calendar list for a calendar you did not create and hide or remove it using the account’s calendar-management controls. Deleting individual entries without addressing the calendar source can leave new entries appearing.
Check automatic event creation from mail
Outlook’s Events from email setting can add supported event summaries. Turn off or limit the feature if unwanted entries are being generated from messages, then delete the existing calendar item. The setting does not retroactively erase events.
Secure the account if you see other unexplained changes
A calendar item alone does not prove that your account was taken over. However, unexplained password changes, new forwarding rules, unfamiliar devices, or sent messages are account-security warning signs. Use the provider’s account-security tools, change the password from a trusted device, enable multifactor authentication where available, and review connected apps. These steps protect the account; they do not replace deleting or unsubscribing from the calendar source.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat not to do with a suspicious event
- Do not call a number in the event description to “verify” an account or payment.
- Do not follow a login link in the event. Open the provider’s website or app directly instead.
- Do not forward the invitation to coworkers or contacts unless your organization’s security process requires it.
- Do not cancel a meeting you organize when you only intended to remove your personal copy; cancellation affects attendees.
- Do not select “all events” in a recurrence dialog unless you intend to remove the complete series.
- Do not assume a phishing report blocks the sender. Microsoft explicitly says reporting a suspicious message does not itself block that sender.
Recovering from a wrong deletion
Google Calendar
Google says deleted or spam-reported events stay in the relevant calendar’s trash for 30 days. On a computer, open that calendar’s trash and restore the item if it is still within the retention period. Because calendars have separate trash areas, check the calendar that originally contained the event.
Outlook
If you deleted an appointment or cancelled a meeting by mistake, check Outlook’s deleted-item or recoverable-item tools available to your account, then recreate or restore the meeting as appropriate. A cancellation sent to attendees is a communication event as well as a calendar change, so contact attendees directly if they need an immediate correction.
Apple Calendar
If you removed a subscribed calendar, re-add it only from a source you trust. If the item was an iCloud invitation reported as junk, Apple’s action is intended to remove it across devices using the same Apple Account; avoid restoring a suspicious invitation unless you have verified its source independently.
Which action should you use?
Use Report as spam for a Google Calendar event that was sent through Google and is clearly unwanted. Use Remove for a Google invitation you simply want off your own calendar without deleting it for others. In Outlook, delete an appointment, cancel a meeting you organize, and report the suspicious email message separately because the documented phishing control applies to messages. In Apple Calendar, report an iCloud invitation as junk, or delete and report an unknown-contact event on iOS 26 or later. When unwanted entries originate from a subscribed calendar, unsubscribe from that calendar; when Outlook created them from email, change Events from email and remove existing entries separately.
