Remove a malicious Discord bot in two separate places when necessary: kick the bot from every affected server, then revoke any personal authorization you do not recognize under User Settings > Authorized Apps. Kicking a server bot removes its installation from that server; it does not automatically cancel an app authorization on your Discord account. If you suspect someone accessed your account, also reset your password, verify multi-factor authentication (MFA), contact Discord through its hacked-account process, and scan a Windows device with Windows Defender.
Start by identifying which access you need to revoke
Discord apps can have server-level and account-level access. A bot that appears in a server’s member list is installed in that server. An app listed in your personal Authorized Apps settings has an authorization connected to your Discord account. Those controls are independent, so removing one does not necessarily remove the other.

| Access type | Where you see it | How to revoke it | Who can do it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server-installed bot | The server’s member list or Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps | Kick the bot or remove the server app | Server owner or a member with Manage Server |
| Account-authorized app | User Settings > Authorized Apps | Deauthorize the app | The Discord account holder |
| Potentially compromised account or device | Unexpected account activity, changed credentials, or an unknown session | Reset the password, enable MFA, contact Discord support, and scan Windows with Windows Defender when applicable | The account holder, with Discord support for recovery |
Menu wording can vary slightly between Discord desktop, browser, and mobile clients. If you are asking, “I no longer want the app in my server. How do I remove the app?”, use the server-removal steps below. If you also authorized that app personally, complete the account-level step as well.
Remove the bot from a Discord server
Kick it from the member list
- Open the affected Discord server.
- Open the server’s member list. On desktop or in a browser, this is normally the list on the right side of the server view; on mobile, open the server’s member view through the server interface.
- Locate the suspicious bot account. Check its bot label and profile before acting, because a similarly named human member can be a different account.
- Right-click the bot on desktop or browser, or use the member’s action menu on mobile.
- Select Kick and confirm.
Discord’s documented removal instruction is to right-click the app’s bot in the Members list and kick it. Kicking removes that bot from the server, but it does not erase a separate authorization you granted to the app on your own account.

Remove it through server integrations
- Open the server menu and choose Server Settings.
- Open Integrations, then Bots and Apps.
- Find the installed app or bot you do not trust.
- Use the available removal or management control and confirm the change.
The integrations view is useful when the bot is difficult to find in a busy member list or when you want to see which apps are installed as server integrations. Discord’s current placement and management guidance is documented in Using Apps on Discord.
When Discord will not let you remove it
Removing a server app requires server ownership or the Manage Server permission. If the kick or integration controls are missing, you cannot bypass that permission from your own account. Ask the server owner or an administrator with Manage Server to remove the bot. If you cannot reach an authorized administrator and the server is unsafe, leaving the server removes your participation, but it does not remove the bot for other members or clean up the server itself.
Do not confuse kicking with banning
A kick removes the bot’s current membership; it is the documented first removal action for an unwanted app. Do not claim that it permanently blocks every future installation. If the server owner later authorizes the app again, it can return. Coordinate with the owner and review the integrations list after removal so that a replacement installation is not overlooked.
Revoke a suspicious app from your Discord account
This is the account-level action. Do it even after kicking the bot if the app appears in your personal authorization list or you do not remember approving it.
- Open Discord on desktop, in a browser, or in the mobile app.
- Open User Settings.
- Choose Authorized Apps.
- Review the complete list for apps you do not recognize, no longer use, or did not intend to authorize.
- Open an app’s entry and select its deauthorization or removal control, then confirm.
Discord describes this list as the place to review and deauthorize apps connected to your account. Removing an entry revokes that account authorization; it is separate from removing an app installed in a server. If the same app was installed in several servers, you must have the required server permission and remove it from each server where it remains installed.
Take a screenshot or note the app name and authorization before deauthorizing if you may need it for a support report. Do not click through an app’s promotional links to identify it. Use the name shown in Discord’s settings and the server profile instead.

Respond if your account may have been compromised
A malicious bot does not prove that your Discord credentials were stolen, but unexpected messages, changed settings, unfamiliar authorizations, or activity you did not perform should be treated as an account-security incident. Secure the account before continuing to investigate.

Reset the password and secure email access
- Change your Discord password to a new, unique password that you do not use elsewhere.
- Check the email account associated with Discord. If that email account may also have been accessed, secure it first or at the same time; an attacker who controls your email can interfere with account recovery.
- Review Discord’s account notices and settings for changes you did not make.
Discord’s compromised-account guidance specifically directs affected users to reset the password. Do not reuse a password from another service, particularly one that may have been exposed.
Enable or verify MFA
In Discord’s security settings, ensure multi-factor authentication is enabled and that you still control the configured authenticator or other second factor. If MFA was disabled or changed without your permission, treat that as evidence of compromise rather than as a routine settings issue.
Use Discord’s hacked-account support route
If someone accessed or took over the account, submit a ticket through Discord’s hacked-account support process. Discord’s article My Discord Account was Hacked or Compromised provides the support direction and recovery guidance. Describe what changed, when you noticed it, and which apps or servers are involved. Do not send a password or MFA code in a support request.
Scan a Windows computer when applicable
Discord recommends running a Windows Defender scan for viruses when a Windows device may be involved. Run the scan after closing suspicious downloads and avoid signing back in on a device that you believe is infected until it has been checked. A device scan does not replace changing the Discord password or revoking authorizations; it addresses a possible local cause of stolen credentials.

- Open the server where the bot is installed.
- Open the bot’s server profile.
- Select Data Access.
- Review the information and permissions shown for that bot.
Discord says access varies with an app’s settings and verification status. Its baseline description includes basic member profile information, roles, message metadata, voice-channel membership metadata, reactions, and members’ selected language. The Data Access panel is the current place to inspect what Discord shows for that bot; it is not a guarantee that every bot has identical access. Details are explained in Visibility of Bot Data Access.
Use this view to decide whether the incident is limited to an unwanted server installation or whether you should also investigate account activity and server content. Do not assume that seeing a category in the panel means the bot can read every private conversation or perform every administrative action; the displayed access depends on the app’s configuration and verification status.
Handle suspicious links, offers, and direct messages
Scam bots commonly try to move the target from Discord to a link, a fake verification page, or an unsolicited offer. Ignore unsolicited bot DMs that ask you to click, authorize an app, download a file, or add the bot to a server. Do not “test” a suspicious link after removing the bot, because the link can be the part of the attack that targets your account or device.
Report the bot to Discord
- Preserve the relevant message, profile, or server details before deleting anything you may need for a report.
- Use Discord’s reporting flow for suspicious bot behavior.
- Include the bot account, the message or link, and the server context when the form requests them.
Discord’s Trust & Safety guidance says to report bots that ask to be added to a server or push a suspicious click. The guidance is available at Scam/Phishing Bots. If a scam bot already caused server content to be deleted, Discord warns that it may not be able to restore that content, so reporting is not a promise of recovery.
What to do after removal
Confirm both controls are complete
- Check the server member list and Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps to confirm the bot is no longer installed where you have permission to view it.
- Check User Settings > Authorized Apps and deauthorize any related app you do not want connected.
- Review the bot’s Data Access panel before removal when you need to understand what server information it could access.
Review the incident without spreading it
Record the bot name, user ID or profile URL, affected server, suspicious messages, and approximate time. Share only the information needed with the server owner, administrators, and Discord support. Do not repost a scam URL in public channels, because doing so can expose more members.
Consider server-raid context
If several unfamiliar accounts, bots, or disruptive messages appeared together, treat the event as a broader server-abuse incident rather than an isolated bot. Discord’s server-raid guidance covers identifying, limiting, and removing disruptive participants; see How to Protect Your Server from Raids 101. Coordinate with the server owner so that authorized administrators, rather than ordinary members, make permission and membership changes.

Troubleshooting common failure points
The bot disappeared, but the app still appears in Authorized Apps
That is expected when the server installation and account authorization are separate. Open User Settings > Authorized Apps and deauthorize the entry. The member-list kick alone does not perform this account-level revocation.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The app remains in a server after you deauthorized it
Deauthorizing your personal account does not remove an app another administrator installed in a server. A server owner or a member with Manage Server must remove the server installation through the member list or Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps.
You cannot find the bot in the member list
Check the integrations page, confirm you are viewing the correct server, and ask an administrator to verify the installation. Client layouts can differ, and the bot may be shown as an app integration rather than where you expect in the visible member list.
You lost access to the account
Secure the associated email account, use Discord’s hacked-account support route, and follow the recovery instructions in Discord’s compromised-account article. Do not create a second account and assume it will recover the first one; the support process is the route for an account that was accessed or taken over.
Server content was deleted
Save evidence and report the incident promptly. Discord cautions that content deleted after a scam-bot compromise may not be restorable, so removal and reporting should happen as soon as possible rather than after attempting to reconstruct everything.
Quick response checklist
- Kick the suspicious bot from each affected server where you own the server or have Manage Server.
- Use Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps to verify server installations.
- Open User Settings > Authorized Apps and deauthorize unfamiliar or unwanted apps.
- Reset the Discord password if compromise is possible, and secure the associated email account.
- Enable or verify MFA.
- Submit a hacked-account ticket if anyone accessed or took over the account.
- Run a Windows Defender scan when a Windows device may be involved.
- Inspect Data Access on the bot’s server profile when you need to understand its available server data.
- Ignore suspicious bot links and offers, preserve evidence, and report the bot to Discord Trust & Safety.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does kicking a Discord bot revoke its access to my account?
No. Kicking removes the bot from that particular server. If the app is also listed under User Settings > Authorized Apps, deauthorize it there as a separate account-level step.
Best Value
Can an ordinary server member remove a malicious bot?
Only a server owner or a member with Manage Server permission can manage and remove a server app. If you lack that permission, contact an authorized administrator. Leaving the server removes your participation but does not remove the bot for everyone else.
What if I removed the app from Authorized Apps but it is still in the server?
Personal deauthorization does not uninstall a server integration. Ask the owner or a member with Manage Server to kick the bot or remove it under Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps.
Should I change my password just because a suspicious bot joined?
A bot’s presence alone does not prove stolen credentials. Change the password promptly when you see unfamiliar account activity, unexpected authorizations, changed settings, or other signs someone accessed the account. Use a unique password and secure the associated email account.

On desktop or in a browser, open the bot’s server profile and choose Data Access. Discord says the displayed access depends on the app’s settings and verification status and may include member profile details, roles, message metadata, voice-channel membership metadata, reactions, and selected language.
What should I do with a bot DM containing a link or offer?
Do not click, download, authorize, or add the bot to a server. Preserve the message and profile details needed for a report, then use Discord’s reporting flow for suspicious bot behavior.
Can Discord restore messages or channels deleted by a scam bot?
Discord warns that content deleted after a scam-bot compromise may not be restorable. Save evidence and report the incident promptly; do not treat a support report as a guarantee that deleted material will return.
What are the first steps if my Discord account was taken over?
Secure the associated email account, reset the Discord password, verify or enable MFA, and submit a ticket through Discord’s hacked-account support route. If a Windows computer may be involved, Discord recommends scanning it with Windows Defender before trusting it for another sign-in.
