Use the controller maker’s configuration app to change button assignments and save profiles: set up a DualSense Edge in PS5 Settings or Sony’s PlayStation Accessories app for Windows; set up an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 in Xbox Accessories on Xbox or Windows. To switch profiles during play, use Fn plus a face button on the DualSense Edge or the Elite Series 2’s physical Profile button.

- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings > Accessories.
- Select DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > Custom Profiles.

Beyond button assignments, a profile can include stick sensitivity and deadzones, trigger deadzones, vibration intensity and trigger-effect intensity. Trigger effects work only in games that support them, and Sony notes that trigger-deadzone settings can affect whether an effect works. These are controller-level settings; a game may also have its own separate control options.

Remap and save profiles on an Xbox Elite Series 2
Use the Xbox Accessories app to configure button mapping and profile settings. Microsoft lists the app for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows 10/11. Connect the controller, select the Elite Series 2 in the app, edit its mappings or profile settings, and save the configuration there. Microsoft’s Elite Series 2 product information confirms app configuration and profile switching, but does not provide a current screen-by-screen menu sequence.
The controller stores up to three custom profiles plus one default profile. Press the physical Profile button to move between stored configurations. The profile indicator shows which configuration is selected.

- Aim and move with precision by swapping in fresh stick modules* so you’re always playing with equipment that’s in great shape. Plus, three types of changeable stick caps help you stay comfortable in-game without sacrificing grip or stability.
- Mappable back buttons The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s two swappable sets of back buttons can be configured to any other button input, so you’ve always got game-changing actions and essential controls at your fingertips.
- Adjustable trigger lengths Manually set the travel distance of your left and right triggers for an optimal experience with whatever you’re playing. Fast-paced FPS? Set a shorter travel distance to shoot faster on the field. Competitive racer? Set a longer travel distance for precise throttle control on the track.
- Remappable buttons Remap or even deactivate specific button inputs, so you can create a completely personalized control setup that’s ideal for the game at hand.
- Quick-swap control profiles Once you’ve found your ideal control settings, you can save them to unique profiles and swap between them on-the-fly, so your favourite configurations are always ready when you are.
Optional keyboard mapping
Xbox Accessories can also assign keyboard keys to Elite Series 2 buttons on PC and console. This is a separate, more advanced option than ordinary button remapping: Microsoft says keyboard input depends on the game, and keyboard mapping over Bluetooth on PC is unsupported. See Microsoft’s Elite Series 2 Xbox Accessories support page for this feature.

Switch profiles while playing
| Controller | How to switch | Saved profiles |
|---|---|---|
| DualSense Edge | Hold Fn and press the face button assigned to the profile. Fn + Triangle selects the Default profile; the other three face-button shortcuts can be assigned to custom profiles. | Up to four total, including Default: three custom profiles. Sony’s Windows app guide states this capacity. |
| Xbox Elite Series 2 | Press the physical Profile button to switch among stored configurations. | Up to three custom profiles plus one default profile, according to Microsoft’s product page. |
Which settings belong to the controller?
These instructions configure the controller itself, not a particular game’s control menu. A saved controller profile is useful when you want a consistent mapping or feel across games, while a game’s own remapping options apply within that game. The Edge also offers adjustable stick curves and deadzones, trigger settings, vibration and supported trigger effects. The Elite Series 2 pairs app configuration with physical adjustments such as thumbstick tension, trigger locks and interchangeable components; those hardware options are not required to remap buttons.
