Can you refund a Steam game after it goes on sale?
Yes—if the original purchase is eligible. Steam Support says it cannot refund the difference in price; instead, you can request a refund for the original purchase and repurchase the game at its current sale price. Check whether the purchase meets Steam’s standard rules
Steam’s standard refund guidance covers a game requested within 14 days of purchase and played for less than two hours. Counted playtime includes online, offline, and shared-library play. These are Steam’s policy thresholds, not a special sale-period exception. How To Request A Refund

If the purchase is older than 14 days or has reached two hours of counted playtime, you can still submit a request for Steam to review, but approval is discretionary. Do not assume a sale price drop will override the usual criteria. How to request a refund and rebuy at the sale price
- Sign in to Steam Help using the account that bought the game.
- Open Purchases, select the game purchase, and choose the issue that best describes it.
- Choose the refund request option, complete the form, and submit it. Steam sends a confirmation email after submission and another email when it processes the request. How To Request A Refund
- Select Steam Wallet or the original payment method in the form if Steam offers the choice for your purchase.
- Wait for Steam’s decision and for the refund to become available, then purchase the game again at the current sale price.
Steam does not promise that the money will be available immediately for the repurchase. The sale may end while the request or payment is processing, so check the sale’s end time before relying on this route.
Choose where the refund goes
The refund form may offer Steam Wallet credit or the original payment method, depending on the purchase and payment method. Wallet credit may be more convenient for a Steam repurchase, but it is not instant; returning funds to an external payment method may take longer.

If the refund is delayed or the transaction looks unchanged
Steam says an approved refund may take up to seven days to appear. For an external payment refund that has not arrived after seven days, Steam advises contacting your bank. Some recently canceled transactions can take a bank up to 30 days to confirm. Common Refund Questions

EU and UK withdrawal rights
Steam distinguishes its voluntary refund policy from statutory withdrawal rights for customers in the EU and UK. Its guidance says the right to withdraw from a digital-content purchase ends 14 days after purchase or first download, whichever comes sooner.
