Start with the designation printed on the bottle, not a seller’s short description. The black bottle should say GI-21 PGBK; a bottle marked only “black ink” is not enough to establish compatibility. For color, match GI-21 C to cyan, GI-21 M to magenta, and GI-21 Y to yellow. Canon lists all four GI-21 bottles as compatible with the G3270.

The bottle sizes are deliberately different. A GI-21 PGBK bottle contains 135.0 ml, while each color bottle contains 70.0 ml. Those figures describe the amount in a replacement bottle, not the amount your tank necessarily needs at one time. A partially low tank may need only part of a bottle, and the printer’s fill mark—not the bottle’s capacity—determines when to stop.
You can purchase only the color that is low, or keep a complete replacement set for planned maintenance. If you buy individually, check every bottle before opening its seal and keep the unopened bottles in their original packaging. Canon’s product information supports GI-21 compatibility, but stock, seller reliability, and current prices can change; verify those details at the retailer rather than relying on an old listing.
Do not substitute another Canon bottle family because its label or bottle shape looks similar. The G3270’s keyed nozzle system is designed around the GI-21 color assignments. What you need before opening a tank

Those details are model-specific. Other PIXMA MegaTank instructions are not a safe substitute, even when the bottles look similar. Do not squeeze, tip, puncture, or otherwise modify a bottle unless the G3070-series manual explicitly directs that action.
Open the manual before you remove a cap so you can read the entire sequence without leaving an open tank unattended. Confirm the tank actually needs ink by using the printer’s visible level indication and the manual’s guidance. Do not refill a different color simply because its level appears lower in a photograph or because one bottle happens to be open. A second look at the tank label immediately before connection is a simple way to prevent a costly color error.
2. Stabilize the work area
Place the printer on a level surface and put absorbent material under the tank area. Keep the bottle upright until Canon’s manual tells you how to connect or position it. Arrange the bottle, cap, and towels so you do not have to reach across an open tank.
Keep the printer still during the transfer. Do not refill while it is perched on a crowded shelf, angled on a cart, or being carried. A level setup helps you read the fill mark and reduces the chance that a bottle or cap will slide. Wear gloves if desired, but do not let gloves obscure the bottle lettering or make it harder to hold the parts securely.
3. Open only the tank specified by the manual

Bring the GI-21 bottle to the matching tank without forcing the nozzle. Canon says the nozzles are keyed by color and intended to fit the correct tank. If the bottle does not seat or align as the manual illustrates, stop and recheck the color and bottle designation. Do not improvise an adapter or pour around the nozzle.
Resistance is a warning, not a challenge. Check whether you have the black PGBK bottle versus one of the three dye-color bottles, and verify the tank marking again. Never remove or reshape the keyed part to make a connection. A bottle that cannot be aligned as shown should remain closed until Canon support clarifies the issue.
5. Follow Canon’s bottle-handling motion exactly
The manual must determine whether the bottle is pressed, held in a particular orientation, or otherwise activated. Keep the bottle and tank steady, and do not squeeze or tip it based on a generic ink-refill video. If ink begins to flow unexpectedly, stop the transfer using the manual’s procedure rather than trying to accelerate or slow it by force.
Do not assume that all four bottles behave identically just because they share the GI-21 family. The black bottle is larger and contains pigment ink, while the C, M, and Y bottles contain dye ink. Use the fill line or other stopping point shown in the G3070-series manual. Do not fill by estimating the remaining space, by emptying the entire bottle, or by matching the level of another tank. The 135.0 ml black bottle and 70.0 ml color bottles describe bottle capacity; they are not instructions to put that entire volume into a partially filled tank.

Once the level reaches Canon’s stated limit, stop even if liquid remains in the bottle. Overfilling can leave ink outside the intended tank area and makes closing the system harder. Keep the remainder identified and sealed according to Canon’s storage directions; never pour it into another color bottle.
7. Close the tank before moving the printer
Complete the manual’s cap and cover steps before handling the printer or opening another tank. Keep the bottle upright while you reseal it, and wipe only the exterior surfaces that the manual says may be cleaned. Do not insert paper towels, swabs, or tools into a tank opening.
Check that the cap and cover are fully seated as illustrated. Do not move the printer with an open tank, loose cap, or uncapped bottle. If several colors require attention, finish and close the first tank completely before preparing the next one.

Look for drops on the tank exterior, cap, surrounding plastic, and work surface. If you see a spill, stop and follow Canon’s cleanup instructions before printing. Finish the manual’s required confirmation, maintenance, or test-print step; do not assume that a visible tank level alone proves the refill was completed correctly.

Canon also lists the G3270 as capable of its Automatic Replenishment System. A page with dense graphics or photographs can consume more ink than a lightly filled text page. Cleaning and other maintenance operations also use ink, so yield is not simply the bottle volume divided by a fixed amount per sheet. Use the figures to compare the scale of the system and plan purchases, not to predict an exact refill date.

What to do if something goes wrong
The bottle does not align with the tank
Stop without forcing it. Recheck that the bottle is GI-21 and that PGBK is being matched to black, while C, M, and Y match their respective color tanks. If the alignment still differs from the manual’s illustration, do not transfer ink.
Ink appears outside the tank
Stop the refill and secure the bottle and tank according to Canon’s instructions. Keep the printer still, prevent the liquid from spreading, and use only the cleanup method specified for the G3270-series system.
