How to Reduce Stuttering and Improve Aim Consistency in Arc Raiders

Start by identifying what you are actually seeing in ARC Raiders. A low average frame rate, uneven frame delivery, a momentary freeze, network hitching and a character-animation jitter can look similar but require different tests. Check your platform first, compare a PC with Embark’s published performance tiers, establish a repeatable baseline, and change one relevant variable at a time. No official source establishes a universal stutter fix or a universally correct mouse, sensitivity, DPI or polling rate.

Identify the symptom before changing settings

The word “lag” is often used for several unrelated problems. Watch the game for long enough to classify the symptom, and note whether it happens in menus, the firing range (if available), or only during online matches.

Persistently low frame rate

The whole game looks slow and motion remains consistently less fluid. Turning the camera does not produce a single hitch; instead, the frame rate stays below the level you expect. This usually calls for comparing your hardware and resolution with Embark’s target tiers and then testing graphics load.

Uneven frame pacing

The frame-rate counter may look acceptable while motion feels uneven. Camera pans contain a regular-looking judder or occasional long frames. This is a delivery-timing problem, not necessarily a lack of average frames. Record frame-time behavior if your overlay provides it, but do not treat an average FPS number as proof that pacing is consistent.

Brief freezes

The image pauses for a fraction of a second or longer and then catches up. Note whether the pause occurs when entering a new area, during combat, after respawning, or at random. A freeze that also affects audio or the entire system is different from a short rendering hitch.

Network hitching

Players or objects may snap, movement may appear delayed, or an action may complete late even though your local camera remains smooth. That points toward connection or server timing rather than a graphics setting. Compare an offline or menu scene with an online match and record the time, region and recurrence.

Character animation or model jitter

A character can visibly shake, vibrate or move incorrectly while the rest of the scene renders normally. Embark’s official update archive has used “stutter / jitter” for a player character after revival. That wording describes a character-behavior issue; it is not evidence that your PC is suffering rendering stutter.

Check your platform first

ARC Raiders supports PlayStation, Xbox and PC according to Embark’s official site. The CPU, GPU and RAM figures below apply to the PC version only. Do not use them to judge a console’s performance, and do not assume a PC graphics change can correct a console-specific network or animation problem.

For a console, record the model, display resolution, performance mode selected in the game or console, whether variable-refresh features are enabled, and whether the symptom appears in menus or only in matches. If the behavior began immediately after an update, preserve the update number or date for a support report.

Compare a PC with Embark’s published targets

Embark’s Help Center lists three PC tiers. These are stated targets, not measured guarantees for every combination of drivers, background software, display, map and patch.

Tier Operating system Processor Memory Graphics hardware Published target
Minimum Windows 10 or later, 64-bit Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 12 GB RAM NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti, AMD RX 580 or Intel Arc A380 Low graphics settings, 1080p, 60 fps
Recommended Windows 10 or later, 64-bit Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 16 GB RAM NVIDIA RTX 2070, AMD RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc B570 High graphics settings, 1440p, 60 fps
Epic Windows 10 or later, 64-bit Intel Core i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 16 GB RAM NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti / RTX 5070 or AMD RX 7900 XTX Epic graphics settings, resolution-scaling quality, 1440p, 90 fps

Use the closest tier as a starting reference. A machine above the minimum can still show poor pacing, and a machine below a stated tier is not automatically diagnosed as defective. The table does not establish how much a particular setting, driver, storage device or memory upgrade will improve your result.

Build a baseline before troubleshooting

Write down the conditions for one reproducible session. This prevents several simultaneous changes from hiding the cause.

  1. Record the platform and configuration. On PC, note the CPU model, GPU model and driver version, installed RAM, Windows version, display resolution and refresh rate. On console, note the console model and selected display or performance mode.
  2. Record the game state. Write down the game version or patch date if visible, graphics preset, resolution, resolution-scaling quality, frame-rate limit, input sensitivity, mouse DPI and polling rate if you use them, plus any overlays or capture tools running.
  3. Describe where it happens. Mark menus, loading screens, a quiet area, traversal, firefights, revival and online-only situations separately. “Everywhere” and “only after revival” lead to different investigations.
  4. Capture timing, not just averages. If your monitoring tool supports it, note average FPS and frame-time spikes during the same short route or encounter. Record the time of each hitch and what was on screen.
  5. Repeat the same test. Use the same resolution, route and graphics preset for at least two runs. A change that appears once is not enough to call a fix.

Also note whether the issue started after a game, operating-system or graphics-driver update. An onset that tracks a specific update is valuable information for Embark support, but it does not by itself prove which component is responsible.

Test persistent low FPS without guessing

Start with the published target

If your PC is near Embark’s minimum tier, begin at the stated Low/1080p/60-fps target rather than assuming High or Epic settings will be stable. If it is near the recommended or Epic tier, use the corresponding target as a comparison point. Keep a record of the result; the target is a reference, not a promise.

Separate resolution load from other settings

Run the same repeatable scene while changing only resolution or resolution-scaling quality. Keep the preset and other options unchanged. If lowering pixel workload raises FPS but does not remove long frame-time spikes, you may have both a rendering-load limit and a separate pacing issue.

Check CPU-limited situations

Compare a quiet scene with a busy fight. If frame rate falls mainly when many players, effects or physics are present, record that pattern rather than immediately buying hardware. The official requirements do not identify a single component as the cause in every case.

Avoid premature upgrades

Do not select a graphics card, memory kit, drive or monitor as a guaranteed cure from the requirements table. First document your current tier, symptom and repeatable test. A support report with those details is more useful than an upgrade chosen without a diagnosis.

Investigate uneven frame pacing and brief freezes

Use one graphics change per test

Return to your baseline, alter one setting, and repeat the identical route. Resolution scaling, effects quality, shadows or post-processing can be reasonable experiments, but no official Embark material reviewed here names a universal setting that eliminates stutter. Keep the change only if the same test improves in repeated runs.

Distinguish a game hitch from a system hitch

Note whether voice chat, music and other applications continue during the pause. If the desktop, audio or input also stops, document it as a broader system freeze. If only the game pauses, report the in-game location, action and duration. Do not describe both as “low FPS” when contacting support.

Check overlays and background capture as controlled variables

Run one baseline with nonessential overlays or recording tools disabled, then restore them and repeat. This is a troubleshooting experiment, not evidence that a particular overlay is always harmful. Keep every other condition identical so you can tell whether the change is repeatable.

Verify changes across more than one session

A shader or asset-related hitch may appear only on a first visit to an area, while a persistent pacing problem repeats on every run. Test a fresh launch and a second launch, and record which behavior you observe. Do not label a single smoother run a permanent fix.

Separate network hitching from rendering stutter

When your own camera is smooth but opponents teleport, inputs arrive late or actions resolve after a delay, focus on the connection context. Record match time, region, whether other players were affected, and whether the problem disappears in menus. If both camera motion and network events hitch together, report both symptoms instead of forcing one explanation.

Changing a graphics preset cannot establish a network cause. Conversely, a network symptom should not be used as proof that a GPU, RAM amount or storage device is inadequate. Persistent online problems belong in Embark’s official support route, with your platform, game version, timestamps and reproducible description.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Handle character jitter as a possible game issue

If the visible problem is a character shaking or animating incorrectly, capture a short clip if your platform allows it and note the trigger: revival, a particular action, location or equipment state. Embark’s update archive has specifically described a post-revival “stutter / jitter” issue. That is a useful vocabulary for a bug report, but it should not be converted into a claim that changing PC graphics settings will fix it.

Check official patch notes for a matching issue and include the current version in your report. If the behavior persists across platforms or appears only after a named update, say so. Community reports can suggest what to reproduce, but they are not controlled evidence of a universal fix.

Improve aim consistency with a stable baseline

Aim consistency is primarily a repeatability problem. The official sources reviewed do not publish an optimal sensitivity, DPI, polling rate or mouse model for ARC Raiders, so choose a comfortable starting point and avoid copying a number as if it were authoritative.

Lock the environment first

  • Use the same resolution, field of view and display mode for every comparison.
  • Keep sensitivity, zoom multipliers, DPI and polling rate unchanged while you learn the baseline.
  • Use the same input device, grip and seating position during a session.
  • Warm up with a short, repeatable drill: track a moving target, make several controlled flicks, then repeat after a break.
  • Record hit consistency and subjective control, not just one unusually good or bad encounter.

Change one input variable at a time

  1. Choose a baseline sensitivity and play enough identical drills to establish your normal spread of results.
  2. Change only sensitivity, keeping DPI and polling rate fixed. Repeat the same drills and record whether overshooting or undershooting changes.
  3. Return to baseline, then test DPI alone if you want to compare it. Do not change sensitivity and DPI together, because you will not know which change mattered.
  4. Test polling rate separately only if your device and system support it reliably. Compare smoothness, cursor behavior and aim repeatability; do not assume a higher number is better.
  5. Keep the setting that produces repeatable control over several sessions, not the one that creates a single impressive run.

This method is general troubleshooting practice, not an Embark recommendation. Comfort, desk space, grip and fatigue can outweigh small numerical differences.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider a gaming mouse only as an optional input choice

A gaming mouse may fit your hand or offer settings you prefer, but no cited test shows that buying one improves aim in ARC Raiders, and a mouse purchase is not a stutter remedy. If you try one, change no other variable for the first comparison and evaluate repeatability rather than the product label.

Choose the next test with a decision matrix

Observed symptom Platform Useful first comparison What to record
Always-low FPS PC Compare hardware with the minimum/recommended/Epic tier, then test resolution load. CPU, GPU, RAM, resolution, preset and sustained FPS.
Uneven motion or long frames PC or console Repeat the same scene; change one graphics or display variable. Frame-time spikes, scene, launch number and patch timing.
Short freeze PC or console Compare first and later visits to the same area and note whether the whole system pauses. Duration, trigger, audio/input behavior and recurrence.
Delayed actions or snapping players PC or console Compare menu smoothness with an online match and document the match context. Region, timestamp, affected players and local camera behavior.
Character shakes after revival PC or console Reproduce the action and check the relevant official update notes. Clip, trigger, version and whether other players see it.
Inconsistent shots PC or console Lock the environment and run one-variable sensitivity, DPI or polling experiments. Baseline settings, drill results and comfort over several sessions.

The axes in this table help select a sensible test; they do not prove a cause. Hardware tier, platform and update timing are clues to organize evidence, not substitutes for reproduction.

When to contact official support

Use Embark’s official support route when the problem persists after a documented baseline, affects normal play, or follows a specific patch. Include platform, hardware tier, operating-system or console version, game version, graphics and input settings, exact symptom category, reproduction steps, timestamps, and whether the issue appears in menus, offline scenes or online matches. Attach a short clip or frame-time log when permitted.

Explain what you changed and what you reverted. A report that says “stutters” is difficult to act on; a report that says “one-second freeze during revival, audio continues, reproduced three times after the October patch on the Epic-tier PC at 1440p” gives support a testable case. Official requirements and update notices do not establish a universal stutter fix, so avoid presenting a community experiment as a confirmed solution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Common troubleshooting mistakes

  • Mixing symptoms: Calling a post-revival animation bug “GPU stutter” sends the investigation in the wrong direction.
  • Changing everything at once: A new preset, driver, sensitivity and polling rate cannot reveal which change helped.
  • Treating targets as guarantees: Embark’s 60-fps and 90-fps figures describe intended tiers and settings, not measured outcomes on every machine.
  • Assuming a purchase is a fix: A mouse, GPU, RAM kit or monitor has no universal benefit established by the cited sources.
  • Ignoring platform: PC requirements do not diagnose console behavior.
  • Reporting without context: Patch date, location, trigger, recurrence and menu-versus-match behavior are essential for a useful support ticket.

A practical order of operations

  1. Name the symptom precisely: low FPS, uneven pacing, freeze, network hitch or animation jitter.
  2. Confirm whether you play on PC, PlayStation or Xbox.
  3. If on PC, compare your CPU, GPU and RAM with Embark’s published tier that matches your intended settings.
  4. Create and record one unchanged baseline, including a repeatable scene and input settings.
  5. Run a single relevant experiment, then repeat the same test.
  6. For aim, return to the baseline before changing the next sensitivity, DPI or polling variable.
  7. Check official update information when the onset tracks a patch or the symptom is a character behavior.
  8. Send persistent or reproducible problems through official support with your evidence.
