Start with teleport or blink movement and snap or segmented turning in Arizona Sunshine Remake. These options reduce the continuous visual motion that most often conflicts with your inner-ear signals. If you need smooth locomotion, turn on a vignette or tunnel-vision effect, keep your speed constant, avoid acceleration, and stop as soon as symptoms appear.
The quickest comfort setup
Before entering a long mission, open the game’s movement, rotation, or comfort settings and choose the least visually intense options available in your build. Arizona Sunshine Remake can expose different labels or choices depending on platform and version, so use the equivalent setting if your menu does not use the exact wording below.

- Set locomotion to Teleport, Blink, or another pointed-jump option. Aim at a valid location and move in discrete jumps instead of travelling continuously with the stick.
- Set rotation to Snap or Segmented Turn. Choose a small angle if the game offers angle controls. Avoid smooth rotation initially.
- Enable Vignette, Tunnel Vision, Blinders, or a similar field-of-view reduction if you plan to use continuous movement. Leave it enabled while testing smooth travel.
- Use the lowest comfortable movement speed and disable acceleration or deceleration when those controls are available. A steady speed is easier for your visual and balance systems to reconcile.
- Keep your head and the horizon level. Adjust your physical stance and headset fit before you start, rather than leaning into the virtual view.
- Begin with a short session. Stop at the first hint of nausea, sweating, headache, eye strain, dizziness, or disorientation.
Teleport and snap turning are comfort-oriented choices, not a guarantee that symptoms will disappear. They can feel less natural than walking and may briefly disorient you, but they are the best starting point for reducing continuous optic flow.

Motion sickness in virtual reality usually comes from a mismatch: your eyes see the world moving while your inner ear and body do not detect the same movement. Smooth joystick travel creates a sustained stream of visual motion, called vection. The longer and faster that stream continues, the more opportunity there is for the signals to disagree.

Turning can create the same problem. Smooth rotation makes the entire scene slide across your vision even though your body remains still. Acceleration and deceleration add another changing signal, and a tilted view or artificial camera movement makes it harder for your brain to maintain a stable horizon.
The remake’s action scenes can tempt you to move continuously, turn quickly, or follow scripted motion. Those features are enjoyable once you know your tolerance, but they are poor choices for a first session if you are susceptible to sickness. Comfort settings reduce the strength or duration of the conflicting visual cues; they do not alter the underlying game or treat a medical condition.

|---|---|---|---|
| Teleport or blink | You point to a destination and appear there in a discrete jump. | Usually less continuous optic flow and therefore less sensory conflict. The jump can feel less natural and may cause brief disorientation. | First sessions, recovery after symptoms, and any player who becomes sick during joystick travel. |
| Smooth or walking locomotion | The environment moves continuously while you hold the movement control. | Provides continuous positioning and more natural control, but can increase vection and sickness, especially with speed changes. | Only after teleport is comfortable; use a steady, moderate speed and a vignette. |
When teleport is the better choice
Teleport is especially useful for short tests, exploration, and combat positioning when you do not need to maintain a continuous stride. It removes most of the visual travel between two points. Keep your real body still while the virtual jump completes, then take a moment to reorient before aiming or turning again.
When to test smooth movement
Try smooth movement only after several symptom-free teleport sessions. Start in a quiet area rather than during a firefight. Move for a few seconds, stop, and check how you feel. Increase duration gradually instead of switching immediately to a long mission. If nausea appears, return to teleport rather than trying to build tolerance by pushing through it.

Snap or segmented turning versus smooth turning
| Rotation method | How it works | Comfort trade-off | Practical technique |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snap or segmented turn | The view rotates by a fixed angle each time you press the turn control. | Usually minimizes continuous rotational motion. The abrupt change can briefly disorient some players. | Use small, predictable snaps and pause between them while learning the angle. |
| Smooth turn | The view rotates continuously as you hold or move the control. | Feels more natural and precise, but sustained visual rotation commonly increases sensory mismatch. | Reserve it for later testing, at the slowest comfortable rate and with a vignette if available. |
Turn your body in the real world whenever your play area safely permits. Physical turning gives your balance system information that matches the visual change. Keep cables, furniture, and other people outside your turning space, and do not twist quickly enough to lose your footing. If you cannot turn physically, snap rotation is generally the safer virtual alternative.
Use a vignette during continuous movement
A vignette, tunnel vision, or blinders effect darkens or narrows the outer part of the view while you move. Reducing peripheral motion cues can lessen the visual stimulation that contributes to sickness. Android XR comfort guidance describes tunnel vision as a way to narrow the field of view during movement for this reason.

Enable the strongest setting you can tolerate when first testing smooth travel. A stronger vignette may make the game feel less immersive and can hide peripheral threats, so reduce it only after you can move without symptoms. If the game allows the effect to appear only during movement, that is a useful compromise: your full view returns while standing still and narrows during travel.
A vignette does not compensate for extreme speed, repeated acceleration, or a tilted horizon. Treat it as one part of a setup that also uses constant speed, controlled turning, and short sessions.
Control speed, acceleration, and the horizon
Keep speed constant
Choose a movement speed that you can maintain without frequent starts and stops. Sudden changes make the visual signal harder to predict. If the game provides separate acceleration or deceleration options, turn them off or set them to the least aggressive value while you learn your tolerance.

Avoid artificial camera movement
Do not begin with lifts, scripted rides, knockdowns, forced camera pans, or other sequences that move the viewpoint without your control. You may tolerate them later, but they combine visual motion with no matching physical movement. If a mission requires such a sequence, look toward a stable part of the environment, keep your head level, and stop playing afterward if symptoms begin.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMaintain a stable horizon
Keep your head upright and your eyes level with the virtual horizon. Leaning, crouching unexpectedly, or playing with an incorrectly adjusted headset can make the scene appear tilted. Refit the headset and reset your view if the horizon does not look level before moving again.
A step-by-step first-session plan
- Prepare the play area. Clear enough space to turn safely, confirm the headset sits securely, and use a seated or standing position that you can maintain without swaying.
- Open movement and comfort settings. Look for locomotion, rotation, vignette, tunnel vision, blinders, speed, and acceleration controls. Labels differ between platforms and remake builds.
- Choose teleport and snap or segmented turn. Keep the initial configuration simple; change one option at a time so you know which setting affects comfort.
- Practice in a quiet location. Teleport once, wait for the view to settle, and then make a single snap turn. Repeat slowly until the transitions feel predictable.
- Play a short segment. Limit the first attempt to a brief period. Do not extend the session merely because symptoms have not appeared yet.
- Stop immediately at early symptoms. Remove the headset and rest in a stable, non-moving environment until you feel normal.
- Record what worked. Remember the locomotion, turn style, vignette strength, and speed that felt comfortable. Change only one variable in your next session.
Short, symptom-free sessions are more useful than a single long session followed by hours of discomfort. There is no need to continue until you feel sick in order to make progress.
If you need smooth locomotion
Some players need continuous movement for precise positioning or simply prefer it. Use a staged transition rather than changing every comfort option at once.
- Keep snap turning enabled while you test smooth movement. Changing movement and rotation together makes it difficult to identify the cause of discomfort.
- Enable a vignette or tunnel vision effect before moving.
- Set a moderate, constant speed. Avoid sprint-like settings and any acceleration curve that surges when you press the stick.
- Move in short straight sections, then stop. Do not begin by strafing, reversing, and turning simultaneously.
- Increase either travel time or speed, but not both in the same session. Revert the last change if symptoms return.
- Use physical turning where practical, even while your movement remains smooth.
Smooth movement can remain comfortable for some people when speed, peripheral vision, and rotation are controlled. For others, teleport remains the only reliable option. The correct setting is the one that lets you play without symptoms, not the one that most closely imitates walking.

What to do when symptoms start
Early symptoms can include nausea, sweating, headache, eye strain, dizziness, unusual fatigue, or a sense that your body and the scene do not agree. Stop at the first sign instead of trying to finish an encounter.
- Remove the headset and sit or stand somewhere stable.
- Rest until the symptoms have fully cleared before considering another attempt.
- For the next session, return to teleport, snap turning, a stronger vignette, lower speed, and shorter play time.
- Do not resume while you still feel unwell, and do not treat repeated or severe symptoms as a normal part of VR practice.
These steps are comfort measures, not medical treatment. If symptoms are severe, persistent, occur outside VR, or concern you for another reason, seek appropriate medical advice.
Common setup mistakes and fixes
Using smooth movement because it seems more realistic
Realism is not the same as comfort. Continuous visual travel can create more vection than your body can reconcile. Switch to teleport for routine movement and reserve smooth travel for later experiments.
Leaving smooth turning enabled by default
Rotation often triggers symptoms even when straight-line movement feels acceptable. Use snap or segmented rotation, and turn your body when safe.
Moving too fast or changing speed repeatedly
Fast travel and frequent acceleration increase the intensity of visual cues. Lower the speed and use a constant rate.
Best Value
Relying on a vignette while ignoring other settings
A narrowed field of view can help, but it cannot remove every source of mismatch. Combine it with steady speed, controlled rotation, and short sessions.
Playing through nausea
Continuing after symptoms begin usually makes the session worse and can leave you uncomfortable after removing the headset. Stop, recover, and restart with gentler settings another time.
Platform and remake-build differences
The original Arizona Sunshine control documentation describes choices for teleporting or walking locomotion and smooth or segmented rotation. The remake’s exact menu labels and available options can vary by platform and build, so do not assume that a setting shown in another player’s guide exists in your copy. Look for equivalent terms in the in-game movement or comfort menu.
There is no established, title-specific percentage showing how many Arizona Sunshine Remake players become sick or how much any one setting reduces symptoms. Comfort advice should therefore be treated as a practical starting point rather than a measured guarantee. Your response can also change with headset fit, play position, session length, and personal sensitivity.
A practical decision guide
| If your priority is… | Use this first | Then consider |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum comfort | Teleport plus snap or segmented turn | Short sessions and physical turning |
| Continuous positioning | Smooth movement with a vignette | Constant moderate speed and no acceleration |
| Natural-looking rotation | Keep snap turn until movement is comfortable | Test slow smooth turning for a few seconds at a time |
| Recovering from a bad session | Stop until symptoms clear | Return to teleport, stronger vignette, and a shorter session |
The most reliable progression is from discrete movement to continuous movement, not the reverse. Add one source of visual motion at a time, keep the horizon stable, and treat any returning symptom as a signal to step back to the previous comfortable configuration.
