To reduce lens flare in a Galaxy photo, clean every camera lens with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, change the camera angle so a bright light is less directly aligned with the lens, and test the shot at lower zoom. If a camera protector is fitted, remove it temporarily and compare. These steps can lessen flare, but they cannot eliminate it in every scene: Samsung describes flare around bright lights as a normal photographic effect.
Why bright lights create flare in Galaxy photos
Lens flare appears as streaks, glare, or haze when bright light reaches the camera lens. Samsung says it may be more noticeable in bright conditions, when shooting against the sun, around multiple lights at night, with a dirty lens, or at high zoom. Fingerprints, dust, and other material on the lens can make the effect worse. Its Singapore support page describes flare under these conditions as a normal phenomenon, not proof by itself that the camera is faulty: Samsung Singapore: “Light flare when taking pictures in Samsung Mobile?”

Reduce flare before you take the photo

Clean every camera lens
Wipe the camera lenses with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Clean all the lenses, not just the one you think is active; dirt or fingerprints can affect the image. Samsung specifies a dry cloth, so a cleaning liquid is not necessary for this step. See Samsung’s Galaxy photo and video quality troubleshooting guide.

Change your position or angle
Watch the preview and make small adjustments to the phone’s angle or position. When the composition allows, move the bright source farther from the camera’s direct line of sight or outside the frame. Samsung advises adjusting the shooting angle or avoiding strong light sources; its Singapore guidance also cautions against keeping the sun close to the edge of the screen.

Try a lower zoom level
If you are using high zoom, test a lower setting or reframe the shot. Samsung notes that flare can be more noticeable at high zoom, but does not identify a particular zoom mode that always prevents it.

Check for a camera protector or cover
A protector or cover over the camera can contribute to light distortion. Remove it temporarily and take a comparable photo in similar lighting. If the flare changes, the accessory may be contributing to the effect.

Remove a light streak from a photo you already took
Samsung’s US support guide describes an editing option in Gallery using Photo Assist: open the photo, choose Photo Assist, select or draw around the unwanted light streak, then tap Erase. The feature and exact controls may vary by Galaxy model, software version, region, or account, so check whether Photo Assist is available on your device. Erasing an area edits the image; it cannot restore scene detail that the camera did not capture.
When to investigate further
If flare remains distracting after cleaning the lenses, changing the angle, trying lower zoom, and testing without a protector, compare photos taken under different lighting conditions. A single photo—or persistent flare by itself—does not establish hardware damage. If you see unusual distortion after these basic checks, contact Samsung support for an assessment specific to your device.
