The fastest way to reduce glare on a wall-mounted TV is to change the light that reaches its screen. Sit in the normal viewing position, identify the window, lamp, or fixture appearing in the reflection, then switch it off, move it, shade it, or redirect it if the room allows. These changes cost little and preserve the television you already own.

If strong reflections remain difficult to control, a replacement display with an explicitly matte or anti-reflection finish is the hardware solution to investigate. Treat that as a model-specific feature: screen finishes, sensors, mounting hardware, and art functions vary by model year, size, and market.

Start by tracing the reflection from your usual seat

A reflection only matters from the positions where you actually watch or view the artwork. Stand or sit in the primary chair, sofa, or dining position rather than inspecting the screen from directly in front of the wall. Look for the bright shape on the panel and match it to a source in the room.

  1. Use the ordinary viewing position. Check the screen with the room in its normal evening and daytime state. A reflection that disappears when you stand beside the TV may still be distracting from the sofa.
  2. Identify the source. A rectangular bright patch usually corresponds to a window; a small bright point or elongated streak may be a lamp, ceiling fitting, or another glossy surface.
  3. Change one source at a time. Turn off a suspected lamp, close or adjust the window covering, and look again. This makes it clear which change helped.
  4. Check at different times. Sunlight moves across a room, and a fixture that is harmless at noon may reflect strongly after dark. Test the conditions in which the TV is normally used as art.

Samsung describes sunlight and lamp reflections as potential distractions on its product information. The practical room steps below follow from locating those sources; they are sensible adjustments, not quantified guarantees for every room or screen.

Room changes, from easiest to most involved

Switch off or relocate a reflected lamp

Begin with the lamp that is visibly reflected. Turning it off while the TV is in Art Mode is the simplest test. If the light is needed, move the lamp sideways, behind the viewer, or farther from the screen’s line of reflection. A shaded lamp can also send less direct light toward the panel.

Do not judge the result only by the lamp’s position in the room. What matters is the angle at which its light reaches the screen and then returns toward your eyes. A small move can remove a bright hotspot, while a larger move may have no effect if the source remains on the same reflective path.

Reduce window light without darkening the whole room

For a reflected window, close blinds, curtains, or shades during the brightest period, or adjust them so daylight is directed away from the screen. If the window is used for ventilation or a view, try partially shading it rather than blocking it completely. Moving the TV is not always practical, so changing the window treatment is usually the more convenient experiment.

Test both direct sun and overcast daylight. A window can remain visible as a pale reflection even when the sun is not shining directly through it. The useful test is the appearance from the viewing seat, not the weather outside.

Redirect fixtures and decorative lighting

Track lights, ceiling pendants, picture lights, and illuminated shelves can all become bright shapes on a glossy panel. Aim adjustable fixtures at the wall, floor, or artwork area beside the screen instead of at the panel. If a picture light is intended to illuminate the TV’s frame, try lowering its intensity or changing its angle so the fixture itself is not visible in the screen.

Consider the viewing arrangement

Changing the sofa or chair position can move your eyes out of the strongest reflection path, but it is a compromise rather than a glare cure. A few degrees of horizontal or vertical repositioning may help in a flexible room. Do not create an uncomfortable viewing angle or place the audience off-axis merely to hide a reflection.

Recheck after the room is reset

After each adjustment, restore the room to its normal use: the lamps you actually leave on, the shades in their usual position, and the seating where people sit. A temporary improvement made by turning off every light may not be useful if the room needs those lights.

Why room-light control should come before accessories

Glare is caused by light arriving at the screen and being redirected toward the viewer. Removing or redirecting the source changes the problem at its origin and works with the TV you already have. It also avoids adding a layer that could affect image quality, touch controls, cleaning, or the appearance of the artwork.

There is no established percentage for how much moving a lamp, shading a window, or changing the seating position reduces reflections in this specific wall-art use case. The effect depends on source brightness, angle, screen finish, room geometry, and viewing position. Treat each room adjustment as a practical test rather than a guaranteed engineering result.

When a matte or anti-reflection screen is worth considering

A matte or anti-reflection display uses a screen surface designed to reduce the visibility or intensity of reflected light. It is a hardware characteristic of the panel, not a setting that can be enabled on any existing television. If you cannot control a large window, bright open-plan lighting, or a frequently used lamp, this feature may justify replacing the TV you already own.

Look for an explicit manufacturer specification such as “Matte Display” or “Anti-Reflection.” Do not assume that a television marketed for art has a matte panel, and do not assume that two sizes in the same family use identical finishes. Verify the exact model number, model year, screen size, and country or regional listing.

A generic film or clip-on accessory should not be treated as a proven answer here. The available product evidence establishes model-specific matte displays, not a universal retrofit product that eliminates reflections without trade-offs.

What the documented Frame specifications mean

Samsung’s Canada listing for the 75-inch LS03D identifies a “Matte Display” and says it helps viewers see content with less reflection. That page also lists Unified Glare Rating (UGR) thresholds in the context of the cited model and UL testing standards:

Claim on the cited Samsung Canada listing What it represents How to use it
UGR < 10 Reflection glare threshold listed for the Matte Display A product-page claim for that cited model, not a universal result for every TV
UGR < 22 Discomfort glare threshold listed for the Matte Display Keep the stated UGR context; it is not a promise for your room
UGR < 34 Disability glare threshold listed for the Matte Display Do not transfer the figure to another size, generation, or brand without matching evidence

These thresholds are useful when reading that particular specification, but they do not predict a measured glare level in your home. Room light, angles, wall position, and the observer’s location still determine what you see.

Samsung’s US newsroom announcement for its 2025 art-TV lineup says both The Frame and The Frame Pro include Anti-Reflection with Matte Display. It also describes an included Slim-Fit wall mount and an ambient-light-responsive Motion + Brightness Sensor. Those are announced lineup details, not proof that every size, later model, or regional listing has identical hardware. Confirm the specification on the listing for the exact set you would buy.

Do not confuse the brightness sensor with glare removal

An ambient-light sensor can adjust the artwork’s brightness and colour tone as room light changes. That may make the image more comfortable or keep it from looking unnaturally bright, but it does not remove a reflected lamp or window from the surface.

The cited Samsung Canada page warns that sensor performance may vary and says its sensor does not operate in environments above 1000 lux. If your room is very bright, do not rely on automatic brightness adjustment as a substitute for shading the source or selecting a display with a specified anti-reflection finish.

Art display quality is a separate buying question

Glare control and the quality of displayed artwork should be evaluated separately. Samsung Newsroom Canada reported in 2024 that The Frame’s Art Store collection contained approximately 2,300 artworks at that time; that dated figure is not a current catalogue count. The same report described validation against 2,390 colours in the Pantone Matching System, which concerns colour fidelity rather than reflection reduction.

In that report, Iain Pike, Senior Global Director of Product and Licensing at Pantone, said: “After evaluating Samsung The Framein standardized ambient lighting, we were very pleased with the high quality of the on-screen Pantone colour reproduction,”. The evaluation used standardized ambient lighting and supports a colour-reproduction statement, not a claim that the screen eliminates reflections in a living room.

Check What to verify Why it matters
Screen finish An explicit “matte,” “Matte Display,” or “anti-reflection” specification Marketing language about art mode alone does not establish reflection control
Exact identity Model number, year, size, and country or regional listing Features can vary across generations, sizes, and markets
Room fit Whether the remaining source is a window, lamp, or fixed architectural light A matte panel is most valuable when the source cannot reasonably be changed
Viewing priorities Contrast, brightness, motion, sound, ports, and ordinary TV use in addition to art mode The set must work when it is not displaying artwork
Installation Wall-mount type, wall strength, cable routing, and clearance Art-like placement often depends on a flush or slim installation
Automatic sensing What the ambient-light sensor changes and its operating limits Brightness adaptation is not the same as reflection removal

Ask the seller or manufacturer for the complete regional specification when a listing is vague. A feature shown in a US announcement may not appear on a Canadian, Irish, or other regional product page, and a claim for one Frame generation should not be copied onto another.

Installation details that affect the wall-art result

A flush-looking installation can make a TV read more like a picture, but mounting does not by itself reduce glare. The wall, frame, and screen still reflect whatever light is in front of them. If the set includes a Slim-Fit wall mount, follow the exact mounting instructions and confirm that the wall can support the television. Plan cable routing before mounting so that adding a lamp or changing a shade later does not require removing the TV.

Art Mode or an equivalent artwork mode changes what the panel displays when you are not watching television. It does not change the optical properties of the screen. Use the normal viewing-position test with the intended artwork on screen, because a dark painting, pale canvas, and white background can make the same reflected light appear different.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Troubleshoot by symptom

A large bright rectangle covers the artwork during the day

  • Close or angle the nearest blind or curtain.
  • Check whether another window is reflected from the primary seat.
  • Repeat the test at the time of day when the rectangle is largest.

A small white spot appears after the lights come on

  • Turn off each nearby lamp in turn.
  • Move or rotate the offending lamp while watching the screen from the sofa.
  • Redirect adjustable ceiling or picture lights away from the panel.

The reflection is tolerable for TV but distracting in Art Mode

  • Compare the same room with a detailed, mid-tone artwork rather than a mostly black image.
  • Use the lighting arrangement intended for the room when it is displayed as art.
  • If the source cannot be changed, add an explicit matte-display requirement to your replacement shortlist.

Automatic brightness changes but the reflection remains

  • Leave the sensor enabled only if its brightness and colour adjustments suit you.
  • Address the physical source of the reflection separately.
  • Check whether the room exceeds the sensor’s stated operating conditions; the cited Samsung page says the sensor does not operate above 1000 lux.

What a realistic result looks like

Room-light changes can remove a visible lamp or window from the screen without replacing the TV, but the improvement depends on your room and has not been quantified for this use case. A matte or anti-reflection panel can reduce reflected light as a built-in hardware feature, yet the manufacturer figures cited above apply only to specified models and testing contexts. The reliable sequence is therefore: trace the source from the normal seat, change the source where practical, and demand an exact matte or anti-reflection specification if a replacement is necessary.
