From the main menu, open Menu > Manage Files, select Manage Files again, and review each installed content tile. You can uninstall campaigns, multiplayer components, Special Ops and other packs you do not use, then reinstall them later through your platform’s Store.
For a new Black Ops 7 installation, choose only the content you need during setup: Xbox uses Choose what to install, PS5 uses Install Options, Battle.net lets you clear unwanted content before installation, and Steam lists selectable content under Properties > DLC. On-demand texture streaming can reduce some local storage requirements, but it trades storage use for network bandwidth and is not a replacement for uninstalling an unused pack.

What the Call of Duty file manager removes
Call of Duty is delivered as a shared application that can contain several games, modes and high-resolution assets. The installed tiles vary by title, platform and update, so there is no single pack list that applies everywhere. The current Activision workflow exposes the removable items that belong to your installation and prevents you from guessing which folders are safe.

Remove an unused pack from an existing installation
- Start Call of Duty and wait for the main menu to load completely. Do not remove files while the game is still starting.
- Open Menu, then choose Manage Files.
- Choose Manage Files a second time to open the detailed content list.
- Inspect every game or mode tile. The screen can show campaign, multiplayer, cooperative or other content separately.
- Select a tile you no longer need and choose Uninstall. If the tile offers Manage Files first, open it and select only the component you intend to remove.
- Confirm the uninstall. Wait for the platform to finish processing before closing the game or powering off the console.
- Check the platform’s free-storage display after the operation completes. The available space may not update until the download manager or system storage screen refreshes.
Use the tile names shown on your own screen as the authority. A pack that appears optional in one Call of Duty title can be a dependency in another, and the same mode can be packaged differently after an update.
Which content is usually safe to remove?
Remove a component only when you are willing to lose access to the mode it supplies until you download it again. The following guide explains the decision, but it does not replace the dependency information shown in Manage Files.

Older Modern Warfare documentation illustrates why checking dependencies matters. It lists relationships among Data Pack 1, campaign packs, multiplayer packs, Special Ops packs and a Survival Pack. Those names are not a universal checklist for every Call of Duty release; they demonstrate that removing one item can affect another mode.

Activision documents selective installation for a fresh Black Ops 7 installation. The label differs by platform, but the principle is the same: clear content you do not intend to use before the download begins.

These controls apply to the documented fresh-install process. If the game is already installed, use its in-game Manage Files screen first; platform-level DLC controls may not expose every component of a shared Call of Duty installation.
Texture streaming: save local space by using more bandwidth
Call of Duty’s expanded texture-streaming system can place less frequently used content in a streaming cache instead of requiring all of it to be downloaded directly to the device. This can lower local storage pressure for some content, but it does not permanently remove a known campaign or mode pack.
- Open Call of Duty and reach the main menu.
- Go to Menu > Manage Files > Graphics.
- Find On-Demand High-Quality Streaming.
- Choose one of the available levels and accept the setting.

Streaming behavior, cache size and the assets affected can change with the title and its updates. It may reduce the initial local requirement, but it can also consume data while you play and may need to fetch assets again after they leave the cache. Use uninstalling for a definite removal of a mode you do not play; use streaming settings when you want to balance image quality, bandwidth and local capacity.
Choose the right storage-saving method
There are three different actions people often call “reducing the install.” They solve different problems and have different consequences.

What to do when you still see old or duplicate files
Recent title migrations have included automatic cleanup announcements, but the dates and results are specific to each title and platform. Activision documented the following scheduled removals as games moved outside the shared Call of Duty experience and became standalone:

Do not assume that every old file disappears automatically. If duplicate or legacy data remains, work through these checks in order:
- Update the Call of Duty application and the console or PC platform client.
- Restart the platform after updates finish so pending cleanup operations can run.
- Open the current Menu > Manage Files > Manage Files screen and compare the listed tiles with the modes you actually use.
- Remove obsolete tiles from that screen rather than deleting folders in File Explorer or a console file browser.
- Recheck the platform’s storage view. Some systems report reserved space separately from the visible game size.
- If a tile returns after an update, note the title and platform and review its current dependency list before removing it again.
Manual deletion of unknown folders can corrupt shared files, trigger a repair download or remove assets required by another installed title. The in-game manager is the supported route for content-level cleanup.

Recover a mode after uninstalling it
Uninstalling a pack is reversible, but the mode is not playable while its required files are absent. Start the game and open Manage Files to see whether the missing tile offers an install action. If it does not, use the platform’s Store or the title’s installation screen to download the component again. Allow the download and any post-install verification to finish before launching the mode.

A reinstall may be larger than expected if the mode now depends on a shared data pack or a newer update. That is normal for a title whose packaging changed after you removed the original files. Keep enough free space for both the download and the platform’s temporary installation files; the exact overhead is controlled by the platform and is not a fixed Call of Duty value.

The uninstall button is missing
Return to the main menu and open Manage Files through the two-level path. A platform’s general storage screen may show Call of Duty as one item even when the game can remove individual tiles internally. Update the game first if the detailed list is unavailable.
A mode stopped launching after cleanup
Open Manage Files and identify the missing dependency named by the launch message. Reinstall that component through the game or platform Store. Do not reinstall every pack automatically; add only the dependency required for the mode you intend to use.

Storage did not increase immediately
Wait for the uninstall job to complete, close the game and refresh the platform storage display. Consoles and PC clients can retain reserved space or temporary files until a restart or the next maintenance pass. The visible Call of Duty size can therefore lag behind the completed content removal.
Texture streaming uses too much data
Change Menu > Manage Files > Graphics > On-Demand High-Quality Streaming from Optimized to Minimal. This lowers streaming bandwidth and image quality. If the connection is metered, uninstall unused packs as a separate step instead of relying on streaming to control storage.
An update downloads content you did not select
After the update, revisit Manage Files and verify which tile was added or re-enabled. Updates can change dependencies and packaging. Remove the newly unnecessary component from the current list, then confirm that the mode you still play launches successfully.
A practical cleanup plan for limited storage
- List the modes you played during the last month and the modes you definitely want to keep.
- Update Call of Duty and your platform before changing content, so the manager reflects the current package structure.
- Open the detailed Manage Files view and remove campaigns, multiplayer or cooperative packs that are outside your list.
- Keep every dependency shown for a mode you still play, even if its name sounds like a shared data or support pack.
- For a new Black Ops 7 installation, use the platform’s selective-install screen instead of downloading the full set and cleaning it later.
- If local storage remains tight, adjust On-Demand High-Quality Streaming according to your bandwidth and image-quality priorities.
- Check free space, launch each retained mode once, and only then consider further removals.
- Record which packs you removed. That makes a later reinstall faster and avoids downloading the entire library when you need one mode again.
Limits you should expect
- There is no universal Call of Duty pack-by-pack matrix covering every title, update and platform.
- There is no official universal gigabyte figure for how much Manage Files will save.
- Pack names and dependencies can change when a title is updated or moved out of the shared Call of Duty experience.
- Texture streaming changes the storage-versus-bandwidth balance; it does not guarantee a permanent reduction for every asset.
- An external or secondary drive expands capacity but does not make the installed Call of Duty library smaller.
For an existing game, start with the current in-game Manage Files list and remove only content tied to modes you no longer use. For a new installation, select the required components before downloading. Those two actions provide the most predictable reduction without risking shared files, while texture streaming offers a separate choice between local storage, bandwidth and visual quality.
