A digital purchase is tied to the PlayStation account that bought it, not to the current visibility of the Store listing. Sign in with that purchasing account, verify the transaction, look in Game Library and hidden games, check whether your access comes from PlayStation Plus or console sharing, and restore the license. Only then move to download troubleshooting or PlayStation Support.
The correct fix depends on whether you own the game, access it through PlayStation Plus, or use another account’s shared purchase. The PS5 and PS4 also use different menu paths for license restoration, so follow the instructions for your console.

First identify what kind of access you had
A missing Store page does not by itself tell you whether the entitlement is still valid. Before trying repeated downloads, establish which account and access model apply. This prevents you from treating an expired subscription benefit as a purchased game or looking for a shared game on the wrong console.

Restoring a license can repair an entitlement problem, but it cannot create ownership for an account that never bought the game or extend an expired PlayStation Plus entitlement. If the purchase is absent from transaction history, treat that as an account or ownership issue rather than a download problem.

How to redownload a purchased game on PS5
1. Sign in to the account that bought the game
On the PS5, switch to the PlayStation account that originally purchased the title. A game bought by a family member or a second account will not necessarily appear in the library of an unrelated account. If you are unsure which account paid for it, inspect the transaction history for each plausible account rather than repeatedly searching the Store.
2. Check Game Library
Open Game Library and review the purchased games associated with the signed-in account. PlayStation says games purchased from PlayStation Store are displayed in the game library. A delisted page can therefore coexist with a usable entitlement: the Store search result may be gone while the library entry remains available.
3. Check hidden games
If the title is not visible, check the hidden-games area in the library. Hidden games are hidden in the libraries of all consoles, so changing from one PS5 to another will not reveal a title that remains hidden on the account. Unhide the game and return to the library before trying the download again.
4. Verify the transaction
Use the purchasing account’s transaction history to confirm that the game or the relevant edition was actually bought. Check the account, title, and transaction details carefully; similarly named editions, bundles, upgrades, and regional versions can appear as separate products. If no matching purchase exists, stop treating the problem as a missing local file and contact PlayStation Support about the account record.
5. Restore the PS5 license
On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, then select the restore option. You can also highlight the game in Home or Game Library, press the Options button, and choose Restore License. This process refreshes the console’s entitlement information. PlayStation states: “Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.”
6. Start or resume the download
Return to Game Library, select the game, and try the download. If a previous attempt is stuck, cancel that attempt and start it again. If the game is listed but the download still fails, use the troubleshooting sequence below instead of buying the title again.

How to redownload a purchased game on PS4
1. Use the purchasing account
Sign in on the PS4 with the account that completed the purchase. A license belongs to that account, so a different local user may see no download option even when the game was legitimately bought on the console.

Open the game library and search for the title. If it is missing, inspect hidden games as well. Hidden titles remain hidden across the libraries of all consoles associated with the account; moving to another PS4 does not undo the hidden setting.
3. Confirm the transaction
Review transaction history for the purchasing account. If the transaction is not present, verify that you are checking the right account and region before escalating. A Store delisting does not replace the need to prove which account owns the entitlement.
4. Restore the PS4 license
On PS4, open Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses, then select Restore. The PS4 menu is different from the PS5 path, so do not look for the PS5 “Users and Accounts” menu on this console. License restoration does not delete saved data or other local data.
5. Retry the download
After the restore completes, return to the library and try downloading the game again. If the title is present but the download fails, continue with service-status, software, restart, and Safe Mode checks.

A delisting can remove a product page from Store search without automatically removing a valid purchase from the account that made it. That is why the recovery workflow starts with transaction history and Game Library rather than with a new purchase. The practical question is not “Can I find the page?” but “Does the purchasing account still show a valid entitlement?”

There are three different outcomes:
- Purchase still recorded: The game should be recoverable through the purchasing account’s library, hidden-game checks, and license restoration.
- PlayStation Plus access still valid: The game can be used only while the subscription is active and the title remains available under the applicable benefit or catalogue.
- No purchase record: A missing Store listing cannot establish ownership. PlayStation Support must resolve an account, payment, or entitlement discrepancy.
Do not assume that a disc license, a digital purchase, a Plus entitlement, and another user’s shared access are interchangeable. Each is checked against a different account or console condition.
PlayStation Plus games: why restoring a license may not be enough
If you originally obtained the game through PlayStation Plus, first confirm that the subscription is active. Then check that the title is still available through the specific Plus benefit or catalogue that granted access. A license restore can refresh an entitlement that is already valid; it cannot renew an expired subscription or return a game that is no longer included.
This distinction explains a common pattern: the game may remain visible in a library or show a padlock, yet launching or downloading it fails after a subscription change. In that situation, restoring licenses is reasonable after confirming the subscription and catalogue status, but the subscription condition remains decisive.

Games shared from another account
PS5: Console Sharing and Offline Play
On PS5, shared access depends on the purchasing account’s Console Sharing and Offline Play setting. Confirm that the account that bought the game has enabled this setting on the PS5 you are using. If the setting was moved to another console or disabled, other users on the PS5 may lose access even though the purchaser still owns the game.
PS4: primary-PS4 activation
On PS4, the purchasing account must have the console activated as its primary PS4 for other local users to use that account’s purchased games. If the PS4 is no longer the primary console, check the activation with the purchasing account before attempting license restoration.
Shared access is not a transfer of ownership. The purchaser’s transaction history remains the definitive record, and changing sharing settings cannot create an entitlement for an account that never bought the game.

Fixes when the game is listed but will not download
Once the game appears in the correct library and the entitlement type is confirmed, separate a licensing problem from a service or local-database problem. Work through these checks in order.
- Check PlayStation service status. A Store or download outage can prevent an otherwise valid title from starting. Wait for an affected service to recover before changing account settings.
- Install the latest system software. Update the PS4 or PS5 to the current system software offered by the console. An outdated system can interfere with Store authentication and downloads.
- Retry the download. If the queue is stalled, cancel the failed attempt and begin it again from Game Library. Record any error code before cancelling if the code disappears from the screen.
- Restart the console and retry. A restart clears a temporary download state without changing the account’s purchase record.
- Use Safe Mode’s database-rebuild option when the library looks inconsistent. If entries are missing, duplicated, or fail to load normally after the account and license checks, use the database-rebuild option in Safe Mode. Follow the console’s on-screen prompts and do not interrupt the process.
These steps address availability, software compatibility, queue state, and library indexing. They do not substitute for a missing transaction record or an expired Plus entitlement.

A padlock generally indicates that the console cannot currently validate the right to use the game. The underlying cause can differ: the console may be signed into the wrong account, the title may be hidden, the local license may need refreshing, a Plus subscription may no longer qualify, or shared-access settings may have changed.
Use the cause-based order rather than deleting the game immediately:
- Check the signed-in account and transaction history.
- Check hidden games and Game Library.
- For Plus access, verify the active subscription and continued catalogue or benefit availability.
- For shared access, verify PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play or PS4 primary-console activation.
- Restore licenses using the menu for your console.
If the padlock remains after the applicable entitlement is confirmed and the license is restored, treat it as a persistent support case and preserve the error details.

A completely absent title calls for a different diagnosis from a listed game that merely fails to download. Start with the account and transaction checks because the library is populated from the account’s purchases.
Account mismatch
Sign out and back in with the account that paid for the game. Console profiles can look similar, and a family member’s account may have made the purchase. The title will not be reliably recoverable from an account with no matching transaction.
Hidden title
Inspect hidden games. The hidden state applies across consoles, so checking a second machine without changing the account’s hidden-games setting will produce the same result.
Shared purchase
If another account owns the game, verify the relevant sharing or primary-console setting. The game may be absent or unusable for your profile when that setting no longer applies.
Unrecorded transaction
If the purchaser’s transaction history contains no matching record, do not buy the game again solely because the Store page is gone. Gather the account information and contact PlayStation Support to resolve the ownership question.
How to contact PlayStation Support effectively
Escalate when the purchasing account, entitlement type, hidden-game status, sharing settings, license restoration, and basic download checks have all been addressed without a result. Support can investigate account records that the console cannot repair locally.
Include the following in your request:
- The PlayStation account identifier used to purchase or claim the game.
- The console type, PS4 or PS5, and the system-software version if shown.
- The exact game title and edition, including whether access came from a purchase, PlayStation Plus, or another user’s sharing.
- Any error code or message displayed.
- A short description of what you did and the result after each step.
- The date and time of the latest access attempt, including the time zone if relevant.
PlayStation’s support guidance specifically calls for error codes, a detailed description with reproduction steps, and the timestamp of an access attempt. Supplying those details lets support distinguish a missing entitlement from a Store, account, or console failure.
A compact decision path
- Was the game purchased by the signed-in account? If no, switch to the purchaser or investigate sharing. If the transaction is absent, contact Support.
- Is the title in Game Library or hidden games? If hidden, unhide it. If listed, proceed to licensing and download checks.
- Is access from PlayStation Plus? Confirm the subscription is active and the title remains in the relevant benefit or catalogue.
- Is access shared? Check Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5 or primary-PS4 activation on PS4.
- Did the correct Restore Licenses path work? Use the PS5 or PS4 menu for your console, then retry.
- Does the download still fail? Check service status, update system software, restart or retry the download, and use Safe Mode database rebuild when the library appears inconsistent.
- Still unresolved? Escalate with the error code, reproduction steps, and attempt timestamp.
What not to do
- Do not assume a missing Store search result means the purchase was deleted.
- Do not buy the game again before checking transaction history and Game Library.
- Do not use a different account’s library to prove ownership.
- Do not expect license restoration to revive an expired PlayStation Plus entitlement or create ownership.
- Do not erase saved data as a first response; restoring licenses is designed to refresh access without affecting data.
- Do not omit the error code or attempt time when contacting Support; those details are part of the escalation information requested by PlayStation.
Keeping access recoverable
For future delistings or console changes, note which account purchased each digital game and keep transaction confirmations available. If several people use one console, document whether a title is purchased, claimed through PlayStation Plus, or shared through the purchaser’s console settings. That record makes it faster to choose the right recovery branch when a Store page disappears.
When moving between consoles, review hidden games and the relevant sharing setting rather than assuming the new console will reproduce the old library automatically. On PS5 and PS4, remember that the license-restore menu paths are different.
