Before you redeem a PlayStation DLC code
Have the code, the correct PlayStation account and the game ready. Redemption permanently applies the credit or content to the account you use; PlayStation does not transfer funds or content between accounts. Sign out of any account you do not want to own the DLC, then sign in to the intended account before entering the code.

A standard game or add-on voucher has 12 digits. A 10-digit code is a discount code that is entered during checkout, not a normal DLC voucher.
- Check the Store region. The voucher must match the country or region of the account. Account regions cannot be changed after creation.
- Check the game version. For a physical game, the disc’s region must be compatible with the account’s Store region. Look at the country or region printed on the game packaging.
- Check timing. A season-pass item or preorder bonus may not unlock until the publisher’s stated release date or until you reach a particular point in the game.
- Keep the receipt. If the code fails or the content is missing, transaction details and the exact error message help PlayStation Support investigate.
PlayStation’s official voucher guidance covers redemption and code types at How to redeem a PlayStation Store voucher code.

What kind of DLC voucher do you have?
“DLC” can mean several different entitlements. Knowing which one you received explains why a download button may or may not appear.
| Voucher or purchase | What it provides | What you normally do after redemption |
|---|---|---|
| Downloadable add-on | An expansion, map, character pack or other installed game content | Select Download when offered, or open the game’s Library/Add-Ons area later. |
| In-game currency or consumable | Credits, items or a one-time-use benefit delivered to the game account | Launch or relaunch the game and check the relevant wallet, inventory or mailbox. A separate download may not be required. |
| Skin or cosmetic | An appearance item, sometimes delivered as an entitlement | Look in the game’s customization or inventory menus. Some skins still have a small download. |
| Season pass | Access to several pieces of extra content released over time | Read the pass listing for included items and release dates; download each item after it becomes available. |
| PlayStation Store gift card | Wallet funds for buying products from the Store | Add the funds to the wallet, then purchase DLC separately. It is not a direct DLC voucher. |
PlayStation describes these voucher categories and the distinction between wallet funding and content vouchers in its voucher redemption instructions and voucher-code troubleshooting guidance.
Which way should you redeem the code?
All four redemption routes apply the entitlement to the same signed-in account. Choose the route that is most convenient, then use the console to install the content if necessary.

| PS5 | Redeeming and downloading in one session | Use the Store menu opened with Triangle, then choose … (More) > Redeem Code. |
| PS4 | Redeeming on the console where the game is installed | Find Redeem Codes in the Store navigation and continue to the download prompt. |
| PlayStation App | Redeeming while away from the console | Use the Store area and its menu; return to the console or start a remote download where supported. |
A gift card is optional wallet funding for a separate DLC purchase. You do not need a gift card to redeem a content voucher that already contains the add-on.
How to redeem a DLC voucher on the web
- Open the PlayStation Store in a browser and sign in to the account that should own the DLC.
- Select your profile menu.
- Choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-digit voucher code, then select Continue or the equivalent confirmation button.
- Review the item and account shown on screen. Confirm only when they are correct.
After redemption, the Store may show Download for an installable add-on. You can start it immediately or download it later from the console’s Library. If no download control appears, the entitlement may be currency, a consumable or a skin that is delivered inside the game.
Do not enter a 10-digit discount code in this flow. Apply that type of code in the discount field during checkout for the eligible purchase. If a code is printed unclearly, compare every digit before submitting rather than repeatedly guessing, which can make the error harder to diagnose.
How to redeem and download DLC on PS5
- On the PS5 Home screen, open PlayStation Store.
- Press Triangle to open the Store menu.
- Choose … (More) > Redeem Code.
- Enter the voucher and confirm the redemption.
- When PlayStation offers Download, select it. You can also leave the Store and download the add-on later from your Game Library.
To find an add-on later, highlight the game on the PS5 Home screen, press the options button, and open the game’s information or Add-Ons area where available. Select the relevant item and choose Download. Menu wording can vary slightly by system software and game.
Some DLC is not a separate package. In-game currency, consumables and certain cosmetics can be applied directly to the game account. Start the game, check the item’s expected location, and relaunch it if the content is not visible.

- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
If the base game has several editions, confirm that the add-on is listed for the edition you own. A redeemed entitlement can be valid while still requiring the matching base game or a particular edition to launch it.
How to redeem and download DLC on PS4
- Open PlayStation Store from the PS4 content area.
- Scroll down the Store navigation and select Redeem Codes.
- Enter the voucher code and confirm.
- Select Download if PlayStation offers it. If you skip that prompt, open the game in your Library and locate its add-ons to begin the download later.
For a physical game, keep the disc inserted when installing or starting the add-on. The add-on must be compatible with both the disc’s region and the PlayStation account’s Store region.
If the download is not obvious, highlight the game in the Library and inspect its related add-ons. A game update and an add-on are separate entries, so finishing the update does not always mean every purchased pack has been installed.

How to redeem a DLC code in the PlayStation App
- Open the PlayStation App and sign in to the intended account.
- Open the PlayStation Store area.
- Open the Store menu and choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the voucher and confirm.
The App redeems the entitlement to your account. Depending on the item and your console settings, you may be able to start a remote download, or you can return to the console and use the Library or Add-Ons area. A missing download button does not by itself mean redemption failed.
After using the App, check the console with the same account. If the item is not shown immediately, close and reopen the Store or game so it refreshes the account’s purchases.
Redeemed, but there is no download button
Redemption and installation are separate. A download control is expected for many expansions and packs, but not for every type of entitlement.
- Currency or consumables: launch the game and inspect its wallet, inventory, mailbox or redemption screen.
- Cosmetics: check the customization, wardrobe or collection menu. Some games download cosmetic files only when you first select them.
- Entitlement bundled into the base game: restart the game so it refreshes your account status.
- Future content: a season-pass item may be redeemed now but remain unavailable until its release date.
If an installable add-on is absent, select the game in your Library, open its Add-Ons list, and verify that the item is queued or installed. PlayStation’s add-on guidance explains these cases at How to troubleshoot add-on issues.
Some games deliver bonus items through an in-game mailbox, account page or a claim button rather than the console download queue. Check the game’s own instructions and relaunch after claiming. Do not redeem the same single-use code again while waiting; a successful redemption will not become available a second time.

Can’t find voucher content?
Use this order so you can identify whether the problem is redemption, ownership, compatibility or delivery.
- Check the code and service status. Re-enter the code carefully, confirm it has not expired, and check PlayStation service status if the Store reports an error. Sign out and back in to refresh the session. The official error guidance is at Problems using voucher codes on PlayStation Store.
- Check transaction history. On the account you used, verify that the redemption or purchase appears in transaction history. If it does not, you may have used a different account or the transaction did not complete.
- Check the Library and Add-Ons list. Open the game’s entry and look for the specific expansion or pack. Confirm that it is downloaded rather than merely listed as available.
- Check region compatibility. The voucher, account and Store region must align. With a disc game, also compare the disc region printed on the packaging. A disc imported from another market can be incompatible with locally obtained DLC even when the base game runs.
- Check release and gameplay requirements. Season-pass content can release later, and some bonuses appear only after a tutorial, mission, checkpoint or other in-game milestone. Look at the Store or publisher listing for the item’s date and conditions.
- Refresh the game and console. Close and relaunch the game, restart the console, or sign out and back in. These actions force the game to request the account’s current entitlements again.
- Restore licenses. If the transaction is present but the add-on is locked or missing, use the console license repair described below.
- Contact support with evidence. If the content is still absent, provide PlayStation Support with the transaction ID, account details, code error and game or add-on name. Do not send a voucher code publicly.
When contacting support, state whether the code was accepted, whether the item appears in transaction history, whether it is listed in Add-Ons, and whether you are using a disc or digital copy. Those details distinguish an account-license problem from a download or regional-compatibility problem.
How to restore licenses when DLC is locked or missing
License restoration refreshes the console’s record of content you own. Sony says it does not affect saved data.
PS5
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other > Restore Licenses.
- Select Restore and wait for the process to finish, then check the game again.
PS4
- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Restore Licenses.
- Confirm the operation and reopen the game or Add-Ons area.
The current console paths and license-repair guidance are documented by PlayStation at How to restore licenses on PlayStation consoles.
Restore licenses after confirming that the transaction belongs to the active account. It cannot move an entitlement from one account to another, and it does not correct a mismatch between an imported disc and the Store region.
Can’t install add-ons or a download is stuck
First confirm that the add-on belongs to the same game edition and account that owns the base game. Then check the download queue and available console storage.
- Pause the download, wait briefly, and resume it.
- If it remains stuck, cancel or delete the incomplete download and start it again from the Library.
- Check PlayStation service status for an outage or maintenance.
- Free enough storage for the add-on and any temporary installation space.
- Restart the console and retry from the game’s Add-Ons list.
Deleting a failed download does not revoke the entitlement; you are restarting the installation. For additional download-specific checks, see How to troubleshoot game downloads from PlayStation Store.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not assume that a slow or paused queue means the code failed. Redemption records ownership separately from the file transfer. Once the transaction is visible, retry the installation after checking storage, service status and the correct game entry.

How season-pass DLC works
A season pass is access to a group of extra-content releases, not necessarily one single download. The pass listing should identify what it includes and, when known, when each item becomes available.
- Redeem the season-pass code or purchase the pass on the account you intend to use.
- Read the Store or publisher description for the included packs and release dates.
- When a listed item is released, search for that DLC on PlayStation Store while signed in to the same account.
- Open the item and select Download if required. Some packs are installed automatically with a game update, while others must be started manually.
- Launch the game and complete any stated story or progression requirement before looking for the content.
If a season-pass item is listed as owned but cannot be downloaded, check its release date first, then verify the transaction, Add-Ons list, account region and licenses. PlayStation’s season-pass information is available at PlayStation Store season pass support.
Buying or redeeming the pass does not necessarily make unreleased packs appear immediately. Save the pass confirmation and check each included item as its publisher releases it. If the Store shows the item as unavailable, compare the item’s release timing with the pass description before attempting license repair.

Account, region and code mistakes to avoid
Redeeming on the wrong account
A voucher is consumed by the account that confirms it. Family members can use a console, but that does not make the entitlement transferable. Before confirming, inspect the signed-in profile and the account name shown by the Store.
Confusing a discount code with DLC
A 10-digit discount code is applied while buying an item. It does not grant an expansion or add-on by itself. Use the Store checkout field for discounts and the Redeem Code path for a standard content voucher.
Mixing Store regions
Changing the console’s language or physical location does not change the account’s Store region. A code bought for one country cannot normally be redeemed on an account registered to another, and the account region cannot later be edited.
Using DLC with an imported disc
Digital add-ons are matched to a game’s regional product identifier. If the disc and account regions differ, the add-on may not recognize the installed game. Check the packaging before buying or redeeming DLC for a physical copy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAssuming every voucher is an install
A wallet card adds funds, while currency, consumables and some cosmetics may be delivered directly to the game account. Identify the entitlement first so you do not keep searching for a download that the game does not need.

- For a stuck download, retry the queue, check storage and service status, then contact PlayStation Support with transaction and error information.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How many digits is a PlayStation DLC voucher?
A standard PlayStation game or add-on voucher has 12 digits and is redeemed through the Store’s Redeem Code option. A 10-digit code is normally a discount code for checkout, not a DLC entitlement.
Can I redeem DLC on one account and use it on another?
The voucher is permanently applied to the account that redeems it. PlayStation does not transfer funds or content between accounts, so check the active profile before confirming.
Why did my redeemed DLC not start downloading?
Not every entitlement has a download. Currency, consumables and some skins are delivered in-game. For an installable add-on, check the game’s Library or Add-Ons area, then relaunch the game.
Can a foreign DLC code work with my physical game?
The voucher must match the account’s Store region. If you use a disc, the disc region must also be compatible; an imported copy can fail to recognize locally obtained add-ons.
When will season-pass content appear?
A season pass can be redeemed before its individual packs release. Check the Store or publisher release dates, then search for each released item and select Download when required.
Does restoring licenses delete saved games?
No. Sony says restoring licenses refreshes ownership records without affecting saved data. On PS5 use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses; on PS4 use Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
What should I do if a DLC download is stuck?
Pause and resume it, check service status and available storage, then cancel or delete the incomplete download and restart it from the Library. If it still fails, contact PlayStation Support with transaction and error details.
Do I need a PlayStation Store gift card to redeem DLC?
No. A gift card only adds wallet funds for a separate purchase. A content voucher is redeemed directly through Redeem Code.
The Bottom Line
Redeem the 12-digit code on the correct PlayStation account, then download an installable add-on from the prompt or the game’s Library/Add-Ons area. If the content is missing, verify the transaction, account and disc regions, release timing, storage and service status, then restore licenses. Currency, consumables, cosmetics and unreleased season-pass items may appear in-game or later rather than as an immediate download.
