Also note whether the code is for a full game, an add-on, in-game currency, or another entitlement. The library entry and installation behavior can differ by product. If the description is vague, pause before redeeming and use the product information supplied with the code rather than guessing what it contains.
Choose the intended account
Sign in with the Microsoft account that should own the content. If several accounts are used on the same Xbox or Windows PC, sign out of accounts that could cause confusion, or carefully verify the account name shown on the redemption page before confirming. The account used for the redemption is the account to check later if the item does not appear.
Do not redeem on a child’s, guest’s, or temporary account merely because that profile is currently active. A shared console does not change the account record created by redemption. If another person is meant to own the game, have that person sign in and complete the process themselves.

Look for the platform or storefront wording on the code. Xbox console and Windows/Microsoft Store PC entitlements are related, but an Xbox code does not automatically guarantee a Windows copy. Install from the platform named by the code and its product listing. If the listing does not clearly describe cross-platform access, treat access as platform-specific rather than assuming the game is available everywhere.
Platform wording matters even when the game has the same title on both systems. A console edition can be visible in an Xbox library while a separate Windows product is absent from Microsoft Store My Library. Use the exact edition or product name shown at redemption when searching.
How do I redeem an Xbox game code?

- Review the result before completing redemption. Check the product name, platform or storefront information shown, and the account that is signed in. A gift card should identify an account balance; a download code should identify the content it will add.
- Confirm redemption. Once accepted, the code is associated with that Microsoft account. Keep the original receipt or email until the content is visible and any installation issue is resolved.
Redemption does not necessarily start a download. It records the entitlement first; installation is a separate step on the Xbox console or Windows PC. If the confirmation screen identifies a different product or account than expected, stop before accepting it.

Where do I find my Xbox game after I redeem the code?
The correct library depends on where the code is meant to be used. Redemption and installation are separate actions: successfully attaching a game to an account does not necessarily download it automatically.

Finding the game on an Xbox console
On the Xbox that will run the game, sign in with the account used for redemption and open the console’s game library or install area. Search for the title instead of relying only on a recently added list; a redeemed game may not be sorted where you expect. Select the owned title and choose the available install action when the console offers one.

If the game is not listed, verify the profile currently active on the console. A different profile can use a console in some sharing arrangements, but it is not the account that proves the redemption. Switch to the redeeming account for the ownership check, then search again.
Use the product’s exact edition name when several versions share similar artwork. Deluxe editions, bundles, expansions, and trial versions can be listed separately, so selecting the first similar result may lead to a purchase prompt even though the redeemed item is elsewhere.
Finding the game on a Windows PC
For a Microsoft Store PC download, open Microsoft Store and select My Library. Microsoft provides separate instructions for console game installation, so do not assume that every Xbox entitlement appears in the same PC list. Search My Library for the exact product name and check that the Store is signed in to the redeeming account.
If a title has separate console and PC editions, inspect the edition shown in the library. The presence of an Xbox console product does not by itself establish that a Windows edition is included.

For an ownership check, verify the account shown inside the Store itself, not only the Windows profile name. Sign out and back in to the Store if the account displayed there is not the one used for redemption.

Xbox console and Windows PC: what changes?
These are the two destinations most often confused after redemption. The practical checks are account, platform, and library location.

The safest comparison is not the hardware brand but the product listing. Confirm the platform named by the code, then open the corresponding library while signed in to the redeeming account. Return to the redemption or account page and check which Microsoft account is signed in. Then check the same account in the Xbox console profile or Microsoft Store. Common causes of a missing game include redeeming while another family member’s account was active, opening Microsoft Store under a different account, or searching a console with a profile that did not redeem the code.
2. Check account order and redeemed-code history
The Xbox redemption guidance points users to account order history and redeemed-code information. Use those records to establish whether the code was accepted and what product was attached. A successful entry in the account history is stronger evidence of ownership than a library search alone, especially while a device has not refreshed its catalog.
Compare the date, product name, and account shown in the record with the code’s packaging or receipt. If the record identifies a balance, subscription, or token instead of a game, the library is behaving as expected and the next step is to use that benefit in its applicable storefront or service.
3. Search the correct library

5. Refresh the sign-in state
Sign out and back in to the same account on the affected store or console, then search the appropriate library again. This does not change ownership; it only makes sure the device is querying the account that received the code.
6. Follow the current error-specific support path
If Microsoft displays an error, use the redemption help and Xbox support route associated with that exact message. Error handling can depend on the code type, account, platform, and region, so a universal fix or guaranteed resolution would be misleading.
