The redemption method depends on what you received. A normal PlayStation or Microsoft voucher is entered through the console store’s code screen. Rockstar’s currently documented free GTA+ month is a promotional benefit tied to a qualifying digital Grand Theft Auto VI preorder, and it uses a different page on each platform.
Use the account that should own the membership, confirm that you are playing the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version of GTA Online, and check the renewal terms before completing the claim.

First identify your code or offer
Do not assume every item described as a “GTA+ code” follows the same process. There are two relevant cases:
- Standard platform voucher: a 12-digit PlayStation voucher or a Microsoft/Xbox code supplied separately. It is redeemed by the platform account and may add wallet credit, game content or a subscription entitlement.
- Rockstar promotional membership: the currently documented offer gives one month of GTA+ to people who bought the digital Standard or Ultimate Edition of Grand Theft Auto VI before November 20, 2026. There may be no 12-digit code to type; the offer appears in the relevant store after the qualifying purchase.
A store gift card is only payment balance. It is not itself a GTA+ membership code, so redeeming a gift card will not automatically activate GTA+.

Prepare before entering anything
Checking a few details first avoids attaching the benefit to the wrong account or discovering that the game version cannot use it.
- Identify the platform account that should permanently own the voucher or membership. On PlayStation this is the PSN account; on Xbox it is the Microsoft account linked to the console profile.
- Keep the purchase receipt or preorder confirmation available. Rockstar’s promotional claim is tied to the account that made the qualifying digital purchase.
- Check whether you have a separately issued code or an automatic store offer. A promotional entitlement may appear without a code field.
- Confirm that your installed game is the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S edition. The PS4, Xbox One and PC Legacy versions do not receive GTA+ benefits.
- Have a valid payment method available if the platform requires one for a subscription voucher, and read the renewal notice before accepting a free month.

The PlayStation Store listing says the promotion ends November 19, 2026, while Rockstar describes eligibility as a digital Standard or Ultimate Edition purchase made before November 20, 2026. Treat those dates as offer-specific; they do not change the normal rules for a separately issued store voucher.
How do I redeem a GTA+ code on PS5?
For a normal 12-digit PlayStation voucher
- Sign in on the PS5 with the PlayStation account that should own the subscription or content. Sony does not transfer voucher funds or content between accounts.
- Open PlayStation Store.
- Press the Triangle button to open the store menu.
- Choose More, then Redeem Code.
- Enter the voucher’s 12 digits and select Redeem. The resulting credit, content or subscription entitlement is applied to the signed-in account.
You can also redeem through the PlayStation Store profile menu online, or during checkout by choosing Redeem Codes and Gift Cards. The exact placement of these options can vary between the console and web store, but the code still belongs permanently to the account that redeems it.

- Finish the qualifying digital purchase on the PlayStation account intended to use GTA+.
- Open the GTA+ product page in PlayStation Store while signed in to that same account.
- Follow the on-screen offer prompt to redeem the free month. This promotion is not necessarily represented by a 12-digit voucher.
- Complete the claim no later than March 31, 2027. Rockstar limits the benefit to one redemption per platform account.
Existing GTA+ members use the same offer path. The extra month is added to the membership and extends the next billing date rather than creating a second simultaneous membership.
Where do I enter a GTA+ code on Xbox?
For a normal Microsoft or Xbox code
- Open Microsoft’s Redeem code page or the equivalent redeem option on the console.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account linked to the Xbox profile that should receive the entitlement.
- Enter or paste the code, then confirm the redemption.
Microsoft’s general code flow covers gift cards, download codes and tokens. Verify the account before confirming: a code redeemed on the wrong Microsoft account generally cannot be moved to another one.
For the GTAVI preorder promotion
- Use the Microsoft account that purchased the eligible digital Standard or Ultimate Edition of Grand Theft Auto VI.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Go to Offers & Credits.
- Locate the GTA+ offer and select the redemption action shown there.
- Claim it within 180 days after the qualifying purchase. Rockstar states that the offer is limited to one redemption per platform account.
If you received an ordinary Microsoft code, do not look for it under Offers & Credits; use Microsoft’s normal Redeem code screen instead. Conversely, a qualifying preorder may show the promotional entitlement in Offers & Credits without giving you a code to type.

Timing examples for the promotional offer
The two platforms express the deadline differently, so calculate it from the right event.
- PlayStation: a qualifying purchase made before November 20, 2026 must be claimed by March 31, 2027. The claim is made from the GTA+ product page, not a generic voucher screen.
- Microsoft: count 180 days from the date of the qualifying digital purchase, then claim through Offers & Credits. Waiting until the final day risks missing the offer if the store has not synchronized the purchase.
- Existing members: redeeming the offer does not start a duplicate membership. Rockstar says the added month extends the next billing date.
These dates apply to the documented preorder promotion only. A separately purchased voucher follows the expiry and terms printed by its issuer.
Who can use GTA+ benefits?
GTA+ benefits require the current-generation version of GTA V or GTA Online: the PS5 edition or the Xbox Series X|S edition. A PS4 or Xbox One copy does not qualify, including a last-generation version being played through backward compatibility on a newer console. PC Legacy versions are also excluded from the stated GTA+ eligibility.
- On PlayStation, check that you launched the PS5 version, not the PS4 version listed in your library.
- On Xbox, check that the installed game is the Xbox Series X|S version rather than the Xbox One edition.
- Make sure the platform account that owns the game is the account where the membership was redeemed.
These game-version requirements apply to accessing the benefits; they are separate from the store mechanics used to enter a voucher.
Account, region and payment requirements
PlayStation voucher rules
Sony’s standard voucher rules say the code must match the account’s region, can be used only once and cannot transfer its funds or content to another account. A subscription voucher may also require a valid payment method on the account. A 12-digit format is a useful check for a standard PlayStation voucher, but it does not describe every Rockstar promotion.

Rockstar promotion rules
The GTAVI offer is tied to the platform account used for the qualifying preorder. Rockstar allows one redemption per platform account. If another family member placed the order, signing in with your own account may not reveal the offer even if the console is shared.

Microsoft account handling
Microsoft’s code system applies a code to the Microsoft account that is signed in during redemption. Rockstar’s promotional instructions, however, direct Xbox customers to Microsoft Store > Offers & Credits. Follow that offer-specific route when the entitlement is attached to the preorder rather than treating it as a generic token.
What happens after the free month?
The promotional membership automatically renews each month at the regular monthly price until canceled. Rockstar’s support wording is: “After the month, Memberships auto-renew monthly at the regular monthly price until canceled.” Review the renewal notice shown during redemption and decide whether to keep the subscription before the free period ends.
Console members manage GTA+ through the platform’s subscription-management service. Use the subscription page for the same PlayStation or Microsoft account that redeemed the offer, review the next billing date, and cancel there if you do not want a paid renewal. Canceling does not change which account received the promotional month; it stops the subsequent recurring charge according to the platform’s terms.

How to verify that redemption worked
A successful code entry and visible GTA+ benefits are related but separate checks. First, look for the redeemed item in the platform account’s transaction or subscription history. Then launch the supported PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version of GTA Online with that same account. If you are an existing member, compare the displayed next billing date before and after claiming: the promotional month should extend it.
Do not switch to a different family account to test the benefit. Sony treats vouchers as account-bound, and Rockstar limits the promotional month to one redemption per platform account. Testing on another profile can make a correctly redeemed entitlement appear missing.
If a PlayStation code does not work
“Invalid code” or rejected entry
- Count the characters and confirm that a standard voucher has 12 digits. Check for mistyped numbers when copying from an email or receipt.
- Confirm that the voucher was issued for the same PlayStation Store region as the account.
- Check whether the code has already been redeemed. Sony’s account transaction details can show prior use.
- Sign out and verify that you are using the account intended to own the membership; a code cannot be transferred after redemption.
Code accepted but GTA+ is not visible
- Restart the PS5.
- Sign out and back in with the account that redeemed the code.
- Check the account’s subscriptions and transaction history.
- Confirm that you are launching the PS5 version of GTA Online and not the PS4 version.
If the item was Rockstar’s preorder promotion rather than a standard voucher, return to the GTA+ product page and verify that the qualifying digital purchase was made on that account. A generic voucher error message does not prove that the promotion is unavailable.

If an Xbox code or offer does not work
Generic Microsoft code problems
- Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with the intended Xbox profile before selecting Redeem code.
- Paste the complete code without adding spaces or omitting characters.
- Check Microsoft’s redemption troubleshooter when the code is rejected or an entitlement is missing.
- Review the account’s order and subscription history after a successful redemption.
GTAVI offer missing from Offers & Credits
- Confirm that the purchase was the digital Standard or Ultimate Edition of Grand Theft Auto VI, not an excluded edition or a physical purchase.
- Confirm that the purchase was made before November 20, 2026 and that fewer than 180 days have passed.
- Open Microsoft Store with the purchasing Microsoft account, then check Offers & Credits rather than the generic code page.
- Verify that the game account uses the Xbox Series X|S version of GTA Online.
If those conditions are met and the offer still does not appear, use Microsoft’s account support for store redemption problems and Rockstar support for questions about the promotion’s eligibility. Do not purchase another code as a workaround until the original account and offer status have been checked.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the wrong account: redeeming on a secondary account can permanently attach the voucher or membership there.
- Confusing a gift card with GTA+: wallet balance pays for a subscription but does not activate the promotional month.
- Using the wrong store path: PlayStation vouchers use Redeem Code, while the documented Xbox preorder offer uses Offers & Credits.
- Ignoring the game edition: GTA+ benefits are not supported on PS4, Xbox One or PC Legacy versions.
- Missing the deadline: the PlayStation promotion must be claimed by March 31, 2027; the Microsoft promotion must be claimed within 180 days of purchase.
- Forgetting recurring billing: the free month changes into a paid monthly renewal unless the platform subscription is canceled.
- Assuming a code is cross-platform: Sony and Microsoft redemption systems apply entitlements to their own platform accounts; follow the platform named on the voucher or offer.
- Buying a replacement too soon: check transaction history, account region and the correct offer page before paying for another code.

Use this decision sequence:
- If you have a printed or emailed 12-digit PlayStation voucher, follow the PS5 Redeem Code steps.
- If you have a normal Microsoft/Xbox token, use Microsoft’s Redeem code flow.
- If your benefit came from a qualifying digital GTAVI preorder, skip generic code entry: use the GTA+ product page on PlayStation or Microsoft Store > Offers & Credits on Xbox.
- After redemption, confirm the current-generation game version, check the next billing date and cancel recurring billing if you do not want a paid membership.
That distinction prevents the most common failure: trying to enter a store promotion as if it were a separately issued subscription code.

The platforms use different labels, but the practical rule is the same: redeem on the account intended to keep the benefit, then manage recurring billing on that platform.

Is a GTA+ code the same as a PlayStation gift card?
No. A gift card adds wallet balance. A GTA+ code or promotion grants membership, and Rockstar’s GTAVI offer is claimed from the GTA+ product page rather than by entering a gift-card number.
How do I redeem a GTA+ code on PS5?
