Use GOG’s official redeem page at gog.com/redeem, or redeem inside GOG GALAXY through Add games & friends → Redeem a GOG code. Sign in to the GOG account that should own the game, submit the code, and then look for the title in your library.
The correct instructions depend on what the code represents. A promotional game entitlement, a GOG-purchased gift code, a discount code and a checkout coupon do not necessarily share the same deadline, restrictions or entry field.

Identify what kind of code you have
“Free GOG code” is a useful description for a giveaway, but it is not a single technical category. Before entering anything, identify the issuer and the benefit promised. That determines where the code belongs, whether it can expire and what a successful result should look like.

A code that promises a lower price is not proof that the game will be added at no cost. If the offer says “discount,” “coupon” or “off your order,” use the applicable checkout flow instead of expecting a library entitlement. If the message names another storefront, such as Steam or Epic, it is not a GOG code even if the same game is sold on GOG.

Redeem a game code in a browser
The browser route is usually the simplest option, especially when GALAXY’s dialog does not open or an extension interferes with the page.
- Open the official page directly. Type or select https://www.gog.com/redeem. Avoid entering the code on a search result or an unfamiliar domain.
- Sign in to the destination account. If GOG asks you to log in, use the account that should permanently receive the game. Check the account name before confirming; a redeemed entitlement is associated with that account.
- Enter the code exactly. Paste it if possible. If you type it, compare every character with the original message or card. Similar-looking characters are a common source of rejection.
- Submit and read the confirmation. Follow the on-screen confirmation rather than closing the page immediately. A successful claim should identify the game or entitlement being added.
- Check your library. Open your GOG library and locate the title. For installation, GOG says redeemed content can be downloaded through GALAXY or through the website.
Do not add spaces, punctuation or quotation marks around a copied code unless GOG’s field already displays them. If the source delivered several codes, process each one separately and verify the library after each successful confirmation. Keep the confirmation page or email until you can see the title in your account.
If you use a shared computer, check that the browser is not signed in to somebody else’s GOG account. Private browsing can help prevent an old session from silently selecting the wrong account, but you still need to sign in to the intended account before submitting.

Redeem in GOG GALAXY
GALAXY provides an in-app path for a GOG game code. Labels can vary slightly between app versions and support pages, but the menu sequence is the same.
- Open the GOG GALAXY desktop app and sign in.
- Click the cogwheel icon in the top-left corner.
- Choose Add games & friends. Some GOG help text presents this as + Add games & Friends.
- Select Redeem a GOG code or the equivalent label shown in your version.
- Enter or paste the code, then follow the confirmation prompts.
- Return to your library and search for the claimed game.
If the redemption window hangs or reports an error, close or abort that dialog and try the browser page. GOG’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends another browser or an incognito window when a browser plug-in may be blocking the process. You do not need to install GALAXY merely to redeem a code; the website is an official alternative.
What happens after a successful claim
A GOG code adds digital GOG content to the GOG account used during redemption. It does not create a Steam, Epic or other storefront key. GOG states that its games cannot be redeemed on another storefront.

There is no physical disc or accessory involved. GOG says purchases and gift-code redemptions are digital and can be downloaded through GALAXY or the GOG website. If the game is not immediately visible, refresh the library while signed in to the same account used for the claim. Search the full title rather than relying only on a recently added or promotional shelf, since library views can be filtered.

Redemption and installation are separate actions. A successful claim gives the account the license; downloading the installer can happen later through the website or GALAXY. If your connection is slow, you can still complete the claim without starting the download immediately.
Amazon Luna promotional codes
An Amazon Luna offer has an extra step before GOG redemption. In Luna, open the offer’s Claims section, select the game card carrying the GOG logo, and choose Get game. Luna then presents the GOG code to redeem.
Use that resulting code on GOG’s redeem page or in GALAXY. The expiration rule is offer-specific: GOG says the game card’s FAQ shows how long that particular code remains valid. Do not assume that a date from an older Luna promotion applies to a newer one, and do not assume every current Luna game has the same deadline.
If the Luna card no longer offers Get game, first check whether the promotion has ended or the claim limit has been reached. A code that was never issued cannot be recovered through GOG’s redeem field. If Luna issued a code but GOG rejects it, preserve the Luna offer details and the exact error for support.
Gift codes bought from GOG
GOG distinguishes its own gift codes from time-limited promotional campaigns. According to GOG, codes purchased directly on GOG have no expiration date and can be redeemed globally. A code containing multiple titles remains usable while there are titles left to claim; each individual game can be claimed only once.

“No expiration” applies to the directly purchased GOG gift-code category. It should not be extended to a code from a giveaway, a partner campaign or a discount promotion. Keep the original purchase or gift message until every listed title has been claimed, because it identifies the issuer and the code’s intended contents.
For a multi-title gift, one recipient may claim one title and leave the remaining titles available under the same code. Do not expect a title already claimed by the account to be granted a second time. If you are giving the code to someone else, share it privately; anyone with an unused code may be able to redeem it.
Discount codes and coupons use different fields
GOG lists several kinds of price-reduction codes. Newsletter-exclusive and public discount codes are processed from the code page and then carried into checkout. A checkout coupon is entered directly in the cart’s coupon field.
These codes may have a deadline, a minimum-cart requirement, eligible-product rules or regional limits. A discount code can therefore be valid but still fail when the cart contains an excluded title, does not meet the minimum value or is being used from an unsupported region. Remove the assumption that a zero-price library claim should appear; the expected result is a changed order total.
Read the resulting price before placing an order. If the discount is not shown, do not complete checkout in the hope that it will be applied later. Remove incompatible items, meet the stated minimum if applicable, or use the code’s dedicated redemption route instead of repeatedly trying the library redeem field.
When a code does not work
Use the branch that matches the error instead of repeatedly submitting the same string.

The code is rejected as invalid
- Compare every character with the source. Re-enter the code manually if a copied character may have been altered.
- Check that you are using a GOG code, not a code intended for another storefront or a checkout coupon.
- Confirm that the code has not already been claimed on the account. A title included in a multi-game gift code can only be claimed once.
- For a promotion, return to the issuer’s offer page and verify that the claim window is still open.
- Check for an account or regional requirement stated by the promotion. A globally redeemable GOG gift code and a restricted partner code follow different rules.
GALAXY’s redemption dialog fails
- Close or abort the redemption dialog.
- Restart GALAXY and sign in again.
- Repeat the cogwheel → Add games & friends → Redeem a GOG code path.
- If the app still fails, use https://www.gog.com/redeem in a browser.
The browser page will not submit
- Open the page in another browser or an incognito/private window.
- Temporarily disable a browser plug-in that modifies shopping pages, coupons or scripts, then retry.
- Make sure you are signed in to the intended GOG account before submitting.
- Check the promotion’s own deadline before treating a technical error as the cause.
- Navigate to the address manually if a bookmark or search result opens an unexpected domain.
The game is missing after confirmation
- Refresh the library and search by the game’s title.
- Sign out and back in to verify that the same account is active.
- Check whether the code was a discount: a discount changes checkout pricing and does not add a free library item.
- For a Luna offer, verify that Luna showed a successful claim and actually issued the GOG code.
- Confirm that you did not redeem the code on a different GOG account or in a family member’s browser session.
The code still fails
Contact GOG support and provide the code’s source and the exact error message. Do not publish the code in a forum, social post or support screenshot; anyone who obtains an unused code may be able to claim it first. Keep the original offer details so support can distinguish a gift code, a Luna promotion and a discount coupon. Share the code only through the support channel’s requested secure method.

GOG-purchased gift codes are described by GOG as globally redeemable, but that does not make every promotional or discount code global. Partner promotions can be limited by the offer’s territory, eligibility or dates. Read the specific game card or offer terms when they are provided.
Redemption belongs to the GOG account that is signed in at confirmation. The game is not transferred to a different storefront, and installing GALAXY is optional because GOG also provides website downloads. Choose the account carefully before pressing the final confirmation. If you intended to give the game to another person, do not redeem it yourself first.
Use only official GOG routes
GOG says it conducts business through its official websites, gog.com and gogalaxy.com, and through the GOG GALAXY desktop app. A page that imitates GOG’s logo or asks for unnecessary personal or banking information is a warning sign. Check the domain in the address bar before signing in or entering a code.
GOG also says it does not cooperate with browser extensions or add-ons promising coupons or cashback. An extension’s claim that it can unlock a free game is not an official redemption method. Close the page and use the direct redeem address instead. Be especially cautious of unsolicited messages that demand a password, payment details or a “verification” fee to release a free code.
A quick decision checklist
- Is it a game entitlement? Use the redeem page or GALAXY.
- Is it from Amazon Luna? Claim the GOG-logo game in Luna first, then use the issued code.
- Is it a GOG-purchased gift code? GOG says it has no expiration and can be redeemed globally.
- Is it a discount or coupon? Follow the code-page or cart flow; expect a price reduction rather than a library addition.
- Did it fail? Recheck characters, deadline, account, browser/app route and region before contacting support.
- Does the site look unfamiliar? Stop and return to GOG’s official domains.
The reliable path is to identify the code first, redeem it while signed in to the correct GOG account, and verify the resulting library or cart change. Promotional deadlines and restrictions belong to the individual offer, so they must be checked rather than inferred from another code.
