Most missing Edge bookmarks are not gone: they are often under another Edge profile, in the Favorites bar or Other favorites folder, or available through the Microsoft account that synced them. Check those locations first. If an intact device or an exported HTML file exists, use it as your recovery source. If a deletion has synchronized everywhere and no independent copy remains, Microsoft does not document a universal undelete command, so recovery may not be possible.
What Edge calls bookmarks—and why that matters
Microsoft Edge uses favorites for what many browsers call bookmarks. The Favorites interface, Favorites bar, and “Favorites or bookmarks HTML file” import option all refer to the same saved web links. A favorite can appear to disappear even when it still exists, because Edge profiles and favorite folders are separate locations.

Use the least destructive checks first. Do not delete an empty-looking folder, sign out of a profile, or make large edits while investigating. If another device still has the links, changes made before you export that intact copy could make synchronization harder to diagnose.

- Data recovery software for retrieving lost files
- Easily recover documents, audios, videos, photos, images and e-mails
- Rescue the data deleted from your recycling bin
- Prepare yourself in case of a virus attack
- Program compatible with Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7
- Open Edge’s Favorites interface and identify the selected profile.
- Switch to each profile that you use and inspect its favorites separately.
- Check the Favorites bar and the Other favorites folder.
- Open folders inside those locations rather than relying only on the top-level list.
A folder saved under Other favorites will not appear on the Favorites bar until it is moved or displayed there. Likewise, a favorite created in one profile will not automatically appear in another profile. Keep all possible folders intact while you investigate synchronization or backups.
2. Confirm the account and turn on Favorites sync
If the favorites were available on another Edge installation, sign in to the same Microsoft account on the affected device. Microsoft says that a signed-in Edge can sync favorites and other browser data across devices used with that account.
- Open Edge’s Settings and more menu.
- Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync.
- Verify that the displayed account is the one used on the device where the favorites still exist.
- Make sure the Favorites sync option is enabled.
Give Edge time to receive the synchronized data after you sign in. A missing favorite caused by the wrong account or a disabled Favorites option will not be fixed by repeatedly importing random files; establish the account and profile first.

Synchronization is convenient, but it is not an independent backup. If a deletion has already become the current synchronized state, another device may receive that deletion instead of restoring the old links. Treat any device that still shows the favorites as a source to preserve, not as a place to experiment.

3. Re-sync before attempting a cloud reset
When the account and Favorites setting are correct but the links are still absent, use Edge’s re-sync control on the Sync page.
- Open Settings > Profiles > Sync.
- Use the page’s re-sync control.
- Wait for the operation to finish; Microsoft describes the process as taking from a few seconds to a few minutes.
- Reopen the Favorites interface and check both the Favorites bar and Other favorites.
If re-sync fails, Microsoft’s Sync page provides additional reset steps. Before following a reset workflow, export any favorites that are still visible. A reset can change the cloud copy, so preserving a local file first gives you a known recovery point.
4. Restore favorites from an exported HTML file
An exported HTML file is the most controlled restoration method because you choose the exact file and can keep it as a separate copy. Edge imports the links into a folder rather than silently replacing every existing favorite.

- Open Settings and more > Settings.
- Select Profiles > Import browser data.
- Under Other import locations, choose Import.
- In the import list, select Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.
- Choose the exported HTML file and complete the import.
Microsoft says imported favorites appear in a folder on the Favorites bar, often named Imported. Open that folder and verify the links before reorganizing anything. If you import more than once, keep track of which folder contains the newest copy so you do not mistake duplicates for additional recovery.

Once located, users can select and run a deep scan on the found partition(s) to recover the lost data.
The HTML file can come from an earlier Edge export or from another browser’s bookmark export, provided it is an HTML bookmarks file. Keep the original file unchanged; make a duplicate if you need to edit or sort links after import.
5. Use another intact device as the recovery source
A second computer or phone that still displays the missing favorites is an intact copy, even if you never previously made a formal backup. Export from that device before attempting account repairs on it.
- Open Edge on the device where the favorites are still visible.
- Confirm that you are viewing the correct profile and the complete set of folders.
- Export the favorites to an HTML file using Edge’s browser-data export workflow.
- Save the file somewhere separate from the device, such as external storage.
- On the affected device, import the file through Settings > Profiles > Import browser data > Other import locations > Import > Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.
Exporting first creates a reviewable artifact. If synchronization later changes either device, you still have the HTML file that represented the intact set at the time of export.

| HTML import | Yes | Exported favorites HTML file | Low; import is controlled and reviewable | Restoring a known set without replacing existing data |
| Export from another device, then import | Yes | Another computer or phone that still has the favorites | Low after export | Creating a backup before repairing profiles or sync |

6. Back up before resetting Edge synchronization
Microsoft’s cloud-reset guidance explicitly recommends backing up favorites before a reset and says the saved file can be used to restore them later. Do not treat reset as an undelete feature. It is a troubleshooting action for a broken synchronization state.
- Export every favorite that is still visible before the reset.
- Store the HTML file somewhere separate from the Edge profile and, ideally, on removable storage.
- Keep the original export unchanged until you have verified the restored result.
- Only then follow the reset instructions presented on Edge’s Sync page.
After the reset, allow synchronization to settle, then check the profile and folders again. If the cloud copy no longer contains the deleted links, a reset cannot recreate information that was never preserved in the export or on another device.

Microsoft’s official documentation covers synchronization, exporting and importing, re-syncing, and resetting cloud data. It does not document a universal Edge undelete command for favorites. A Microsoft Q&A response says sync might restore favorites and that, without a backup, there may be no direct recovery route; that is community guidance, not a guaranteed recovery method.

Use this order when no favorite is visible:
- Check every Edge profile and both the Favorites bar and Other favorites.
- Verify the Microsoft account and Favorites sync setting.
- Try the Sync page’s re-sync control.
- Search for an exported HTML file or another device that still has the links.
- Export any surviving copy before a reset.
If all devices show the deletion, synchronization is correct, re-sync does not help, and no HTML export or other intact copy exists, set expectations accordingly: the missing favorites may be permanently unrecoverable through Edge’s documented tools. Avoid promises of a recovery percentage; Microsoft publishes no general success rate.

How to prevent the next loss
Export on a schedule
Make a fresh favorites HTML export whenever your collection changes substantially. Use a filename that includes the date so you can identify the newest known-good copy without opening every file.
Keep the file independent of Edge
Save the export outside the Edge profile and keep a second copy on separate storage, such as a USB flash drive for bookmark backups. A backup that remains inside the same profile or on the same failing device is less useful when that profile or device is damaged.
Check the account after setting up a device
After signing in to Edge on a new device, open Settings > Profiles > Sync and confirm that Favorites is enabled. Verify that the expected profile and folders appear before deleting anything from the old installation.
Preserve an intact device during an incident
If one device still has the complete collection, export it first. Do not clean up empty folders or reorganize favorites until the HTML copy is safely stored. This preserves a stable source if synchronization or profile repairs produce unexpected results.
