Short answer: a successful Solana transfer is generally final. You cannot undo it from your wallet or a block explorer. Recovery is possible only if the person, exchange, custodian, or program controlling the destination can access the assets and voluntarily returns or credits them.
Start by locating the transaction signature, confirming the network, asset, destination, amount, and status, then contact the actual controller of that destination through an official channel. Do not share a seed phrase or private key with anyone claiming to recover the funds.

What “recovery” means on Solana
A Solana transaction changes the ledger when it succeeds. The sender does not retain an undo command, and an explorer only reads and displays the resulting activity. Solana’s user guide states, “Remember: transactions cannot be reversed,” in its explanation of sending SOL: Solana, “Sending and Receiving SOL”. Solscan likewise says it cannot refund transactions and does not control, process, or troubleshoot them: Solscan Information Center, “I Sent Tokens to the Wrong Address. Can You Reverse the Transaction?” (published May 29, 2024).
That does not mean every mistaken transfer is hopeless. It means the possible remedy is a new transaction or a custodial credit made by whoever controls the destination. A known person may agree to send the assets back. An exchange may investigate a deposit it controls and, if its systems and policies allow, credit or return the funds. A program-controlled account follows that program’s authority rules. None of these routes guarantees a result.

Check the transaction before contacting anyone
Do not rely on a wallet notification alone. Collect the on-chain facts first; they determine whether you are dealing with a failed attempt, a completed transfer, an unsupported token, or a destination that another organization controls.
1. Find the transaction signature
Open the sending wallet’s activity, transfer history, or withdrawal record and copy the transaction signature. Solana describes a signature as the unique identifier for a transaction. Its transaction record can show the sender, recipient, amount, fee, timestamp, and status: Solana, “Sending and Receiving SOL.” Copy the full signature exactly; do not rely on a shortened display.
2. Inspect the signature in an explorer
Paste the signature into a Solana explorer such as Solscan or Solana Explorer. Check all of the following:

- whether the transaction is marked successful or failed;
- the destination address actually written on chain;
- the asset and token mint, if it is an SPL token;
- the amount transferred; and
- the timestamp and any error information.
Save the signature and a screenshot or copied transaction details. A wallet may show a contact name or label that differs from the raw address; the explorer record is the evidence you should give a support team.
3. Compare the destination with your intended address
Compare the complete address character by character, preferably using a copy-and-paste record rather than a screenshot. Determine whether the destination belongs to someone you know, an exchange or other custodian, a program, or nobody you can identify. A public address alone does not prove who controls it.

Classify what happened

Why native SOL and SPL tokens behave differently
The asset type and destination account type matter. Solana’s official address-verification documentation explains the safeguards and their limits: Solana, “Verify Address.”
Native SOL can reach an unusable account type
Native SOL is transferred as lamports through the System Program. A System Program transfer can add lamports to token accounts, mint accounts, programs, and program-derived addresses (PDAs), even though those accounts are not ordinary user wallets. Only the account’s owning program can move lamports out of an account. If no practical authority can sign a return, the SOL can be permanently locked despite the transaction having succeeded.

This is why a successful transfer to a malformed or program-owned destination is not automatically recoverable: success confirms that the ledger accepted the transfer, not that a human recipient can spend it.
SPL transfers are checked against the token mint
SPL tokens are held in token accounts associated with a particular mint. The Token Program rejects transfers when the source and destination token accounts do not match the expected mint. A transfer aimed directly at a mint account also fails. In those invalid-account cases, the tokens are not misdirected; the attempted transfer is rejected. The “Verify Address” documentation describes these account and mint checks in detail.
Those checks do not protect you from every wrong address. If you send an SPL token to a valid token account for the same mint that belongs to somebody else, the transaction can succeed. The recipient then controls the tokens, and the sender cannot reclaim them through the original transaction.

Program-controlled destinations have their own rules
Some addresses are controlled by on-chain programs rather than by a person holding a normal wallet key. A program-derived address may accept assets, but the program determines whether and how they can be moved. Recovery therefore depends on that program’s documented authority and implementation. An explorer can show the address and instructions; it cannot grant you the program’s authority.

A known person’s wallet
Contact the person privately and provide the transaction signature, asset, amount, network, and destination address. Explain that the transfer succeeded and ask whether they can send a separate return transaction. Their return is a new transfer signed by their wallet, not a reversal of your original transaction.
Do not ask them for a seed phrase or private key, and do not send additional funds to “unlock” the original transfer. Confirm the return address through a second channel before they send anything, because a copied address can be replaced by malware or a social-engineering attempt.
An exchange or other custodial service
Use only the exchange’s official website or app, not a support account that contacts you through social media or a messaging service. Tell support that the chain transaction completed but the deposit was sent to an incorrect address, network, or asset destination. Include:
- the full transaction signature;
- the asset name and, for an SPL token, its mint address if shown;
- the amount and transaction timestamp;
- the network used;
- the destination address;
- your exchange account identifier and the deposit address you intended to use; and
- the explorer link and a screenshot of the transaction details.
The exchange may be able to identify a deposit address it controls, but eligibility, engineering effort, internal review, and any applicable policy differ by service and asset. The reviewed Solana Mobile wallet guidance directs users to contact the receiving exchange for funds that have not appeared and for incompatible-address cases outside the wallet’s support scope; it does not promise recovery: Solana Mobile Seed Vault Wallet, “Sending and receiving SOL and SPL tokens.”

A program, bridge, staking service, or other protocol address
Identify the program from the transaction instructions and the destination account, then use that protocol’s documented support or governance channel. Explain exactly which instruction sent the asset and whether the destination was an expected account type. Do not assume that a protocol can rescue funds merely because its address appears in an explorer; only the program’s authority rules can determine that.
An unknown personal wallet
There may be no practical recovery route. You can document the transaction and, if the address has a public identity attached to it, make one respectful contact. Do not publish private information, harass a suspected owner, or pay an intermediary that claims it can force a return. A public address does not reveal a private key.

First establish what actually happened from the signature. “Wrong network” can mean that you sent on a different blockchain, while “unsupported token” can mean that the receiving service does not credit that mint even though the Solana transaction itself succeeded. These are different operational problems and require the receiving platform’s investigation.
Solana Mobile’s wallet guidance warns that token support differs between exchanges and recommends checking the exchange’s official documentation or support resources. It also warns that using the wrong network, or sending unsupported SPL tokens to an exchange’s SOL address, can cause permanent loss. Do not infer a universal recovery procedure from another platform’s policy; no single method or success rate is established for all exchanges.

When opening a ticket, state the network exactly as shown in the transaction, identify whether the asset was native SOL or an SPL token, and provide the token mint where available. Ask the platform whether the destination is one of its controlled addresses and whether it has a documented process for that specific asset and network. Keep the ticket number and all replies.
What wallets and explorers can—and cannot—do
Your sending wallet
A non-custodial wallet signs transactions with your keys but generally does not control an external destination. It can help you locate the signature, display balances, and prepare a new transaction. The reviewed sources do not establish that a wallet provider can reverse a finalized transfer.
A block explorer
An explorer indexes and interprets on-chain data. It can confirm the signature, destination, token mint, amount, instructions, and status. It cannot alter ledger history, retrieve private keys, contact an unknown owner on your behalf, or issue a refund. Solscan explicitly says it does not store private keys, process transactions, control transactions, troubleshoot failures, or refund users: Solscan Information Center.
The receiving custodian
A custodian is the only party in this list that may be able to move assets from a deposit address it controls. Even then, internal controls, asset support, account verification, and technical constraints determine whether it will act. Treat any response as a support decision, not as an automatic blockchain feature.
Protect yourself from recovery scams
People who lose crypto often receive unsolicited offers from fake “recovery agents,” impersonated support staff, or accounts claiming special access to validators or explorers. The sources cited here do not establish any service that can retrieve funds without authority over the destination account.
- Never disclose a seed phrase, private key, wallet backup, password, one-time code, or remote-desktop access.
- Never sign a transaction whose destination or permissions you do not understand.
- Do not pay a fee, tax, deposit, or “verification amount” to unlock a promised refund.
- Open support requests only from the receiving service’s official domain or app.
- Check every return address on the device where you will sign, not only in a chat window.
An authentic support team may ask for transaction metadata and account verification, but it should not need your private key to inspect a public transaction.
A practical escalation checklist
- Copy the full transaction signature from the sending wallet.
- Open the signature in a Solana explorer and record the network, status, destination, asset, mint, amount, timestamp, and any error.
- Decide whether the destination is a known person, a custodian, a program, or unknown.
- If the status is failed, verify that the balance was not deducted and correct the address or token account before trying again.
- If the status is successful, contact only the destination controller through a verified private channel.
- Send the signature, explorer link, destination, asset, amount, network, and relevant account or deposit details.
- Wait for the controller’s response; do not send additional funds or credentials while an investigation is pending.
- Record the case number, messages, and any proposed return transaction, then verify the return on chain before treating it as complete.
Preventing the next wrong-address transfer
Use a small test transfer when a recipient or service is unfamiliar, then verify that it arrived before sending the full amount. Compare the destination address and network immediately before signing, and confirm that the token mint is supported by the receiving service. Save frequently used addresses in a vetted address book only after independently checking them. For exchange deposits, copy the current deposit address and network from the exchange’s own interface each time rather than relying on an old note.
These checks reduce address and network mistakes, but they do not create an undo function. The decisive question after a successful transfer remains who, if anyone, controls the destination and is able to authorize a separate return.
