Samsung says Gallery deletions stay there for 30 days; after that, they are permanently deleted from the bin. If they are not there, check My Files, Google Photos, and OneDrive before considering a backup restore.
Restore photos from Samsung Gallery’s Recycle bin
- Open Gallery.
- Tap Menu, then Recycle bin. On some software versions, the menu or bin label may differ.
- Select the deleted images and tap Restore.
Samsung Canada Support says, “Files deleted from the Gallery app are kept in the trash for 30 days.” The 30-day limit applies to Gallery deletions; it is not a universal Android recovery rule. On some older software, the Recycle bin may have needed to be enabled before the images were deleted. Samsung notes that screens and menu names can vary by model and software version. Check My Files and Google Photos
My Files Recycle bin
If you deleted the images while managing files rather than in Gallery, open My Files > Recycle bin and look for them there. Samsung says the Recycle bin area can show deleted items by app, including Gallery and My Files; Gallery items can also be restored from Gallery. Samsung’s My Files Recycle bin guidance.

- Open Google Photos and tap Library.
- Open Trash.
- Select the images and choose Restore.
Samsung India’s recovery guide says Google Photos items are permanently deleted after 60 days in Trash. Make sure Google Photos is signed in to the account that held the backup; a different account can make backed-up photos appear to be missing. The 60-day figure is from Samsung’s India guide and may not describe every account or region. Samsung India’s photo recovery guide.

Look for previously synced images in OneDrive
Samsung’s US support page says Samsung Gallery sync with OneDrive ended on September 30, 2026. That date has passed, so do not treat enabling Gallery sync as a current way to retrieve or back up photos. Media synced before the feature ended remains in the user’s OneDrive account and can be downloaded. Search OneDrive for the images; if they were deleted there, Samsung says they remain in OneDrive’s Recycle bin for 93 days and can be restored through the OneDrive app or website. Restore only from a backup made before the deletion
Backup restoration helps only if the missing images were included in a backup created before they were deleted. Check what the backup contains before restoring; a general device backup does not necessarily include Gallery photos.

Samsung Cloud
- Open Settings.
- Tap your Samsung account name, then Samsung Cloud.
- Tap Restore data, choose the relevant backup, and follow the prompts.
Review the backup’s available categories and confirm that it includes the needed media. The available restore options depend on the backup and device support. Samsung Cloud restore instructions.
Smart Switch or supported external storage
Samsung documents restoring a Smart Switch backup from a computer to a new or reset phone, with selectable categories that can include photos. It also documents restores from supported external storage, including a USB OTG flash drive. Menu options and external-storage support vary by model; not every phone supports microSD or every storage method. If the images are missing from every bin and backup
Samsung’s official support guidance establishes recovery from Recycle bins and suitable backups, but it does not establish a guaranteed method for retrieving permanently deleted images that were not backed up or synced. Treat claims that an app can reliably recover such images with caution; the official material does not support a guaranteed app-based recovery workflow.

- Check that Gallery’s Recycle bin is available and enabled on your software version.
- Choose a backup or photo-sync service and confirm the correct account and included media categories.
- For Smart Switch or external storage, create a backup before you need it and confirm that photos are included.
Setting up a backup now protects future files; it cannot retrieve an image that was already lost and never included in a backup.
