Yes. iMobie offers a no-root Quick Recovery from Device mode in DroidKit, but its own guide distinguishes deleted media from other data: it lists deleted photos, videos, and audio as recoverable in Quick Recovery, while messages, contacts, call logs, calendars, documents, WhatsApp attachments, and LINE attachments are listed as existing data only. DroidKit’s deeper Deep Recovery mode requires root. Check Android’s Trash folders and backups first, and do not pay unless the scan previews the specific files you need.

What “without root” means in DroidKit

Rooting gives software deeper access to Android’s operating system and storage. A no-root scan avoids that modification and works through the phone’s normal connection and accessible data. That generally means less access than a root-assisted scan; neither approach guarantees that deleted files can be reconstructed.

iMobie separates its two device-recovery modes. Its Quick Recovery guide presents Quick Recovery as a no-root option. Its Deep Recovery guide says root is required for that mode. Do not interpret “without root” as meaning that DroidKit’s deepest internal-storage scan works without root.

Mode Root What the documentation says
Quick Recovery from Device Not required, according to iMobie Scans accessible data; deleted photos, videos, and audio are listed as supported, while the guide lists other categories as existing data only.
Deep Recovery from Device Required, according to iMobie Intended for a deeper scan of internal storage. Rooting adds risk and may involve bootloader changes; on some devices, unlocking the bootloader erases data.

Cloud-backup extraction and SD-card recovery are separate cases. Restoring from Google or an app backup retrieves a saved copy rather than undeleting raw storage. A removable SD card can sometimes be examined separately from encrypted internal phone storage; iMobie advertises an SD-card recovery option on its Android Data Recovery page.

What Quick Recovery says it can find

iMobie’s guide lists 13 categories, but the deleted-versus-existing distinction is more useful than the headline count. According to its Quick Recovery table, photos, videos, and audio are marked for both existing and deleted data. The following categories are listed as existing data only:

  • Messages and attachments
  • Contacts, call logs, and calendar
  • Documents, books, ZIP files, and APK files
  • WhatsApp attachments and LINE attachments

That means the Quick Recovery documentation does not establish recovery of deleted messages, contacts, documents, or WhatsApp attachments without root. In particular, it should not be treated as a dependable way to reconstruct deleted WhatsApp conversations. Check WhatsApp’s own backup and restore options first.

Computer Forensics Tools, Data Recovery Kit with iRecovery, Phone Recovery
  • The PBN-TEC Digital Investigation Kit is a comprehensive eight-tool investigation system trusted by law enforcement agencies, private investigators, IT security professionals, legal teams, and even concerned parents. One kit covers mobile device extraction, computer investigations, evidence collection, illicit content detection, audio monitoring, and secure file deletion — no additional software purchases required.
  • The iRecovery Stick extracts and investigates data from iPhone and iPad devices, the Phone Recovery Stick handles Android phones and tablets, and the SIM Card Seizure analyzes data from virtually any GSM SIM card. Together these three tools provide complete mobile device investigation coverage from a single kit, including contacts, messages, call logs, and photos.
  • The Data Recovery Stick recovers deleted files from any Windows OS, the Voice Logger installs an audio monitoring application onto any Windows computer, and the Data Shredder Stick securely deletes files and wipes storage when the investigation is complete. All three tools work on Windows XP or newer with no additional software required.
  • The Capturra Action Drive 1TB automatically collects targeted file types from virtually any device, serving as both an evidence storage drive and a targeted file collection tool for focused investigations. The XXX Detection Stick then scans the collected evidence for illicit content, categorizing results into Low Suspect, Suspect, and Highly Suspect for review.
  • The Digital Investigation Kit includes everything needed to begin an investigation immediately — a Data Cable Kit with iPhone, USB-C, and Micro USB cables, a universal SIM Card Adapter compatible with all SIM card sizes, and a Softshell Compartmentalized Protection Case to organize and transport all eight tools securely.

iMobie’s product page also markets recovery from internal memory, SD cards, SIM cards, and Google Accounts. Those are vendor capability claims, not independent proof that a particular file can be recovered. A SIM card may hold some contacts or messages, but it is not a complete copy of data stored in the phone or cloud.

Check Trash and backups before scanning

These options are free and avoid experimenting with recovery software on the affected phone. If the file is important, minimize phone use while you check them: do not install recovery apps, take new photos, download large files, or factory-reset the device. As a precaution, new activity may complicate later recovery attempts.

Google Photos

  1. Open Google Photos.
  2. Tap Collections, then Trash.
  3. Select the photo or video and tap Restore.

Google says backed-up photos and videos remain in Trash for 60 days; qualifying items that were not backed up on Android 11 and later remain for 30 days. Items permanently deleted from Trash cannot be restored through Google Photos. See Google’s Photos Trash instructions.

Files by Google

  1. Open Files by Google.
  2. Open the menu and tap Trash.
  3. Select the file and tap Restore.

Files stay in Files by Google Trash for 30 days. Items permanently deleted from Trash cannot be restored there, and files removed using the app’s Junk files cleanup card may be permanently deleted rather than moved to Trash. Details are in Google’s Files Trash instructions.

Gallery, cloud storage, and app backups

  • Check your phone’s Gallery or manufacturer photo app for a Trash or Recently deleted folder. Names and retention rules vary by manufacturer.
  • Look in cloud storage services for their Trash folders and synced copies.
  • Check Samsung, Xiaomi, or other manufacturer backup services if you enabled them.
  • For WhatsApp, check whether a suitable app backup exists before attempting a restore. A backup restores saved data; it is not a general undelete scan.
  • Review Google device backup if you need supported device data such as contacts, call history, SMS/MMS, settings, or app data. Coverage depends on the app, phone, and Android version. Google notes that a backup from a newer Android version cannot be restored to a device running an older version; see Google’s Android backup guide.

Device backup is a restore-from-backup route, not a forensic undelete tool. Restoring may require setting up a replacement or reset phone, and individual apps do not necessarily back up all their data.

What you need before using Quick Recovery

  • An Android phone that powers on and can be unlocked for connection.
  • A Windows PC or Mac, a known-good USB data cable, and enough computer storage for recovered files.
  • A charged phone that can remain connected during the scan.
  • The DroidKit installer from iMobie’s official site. iMobie identifies imobie.com as its official source and warns that droidkit.org and droidkitandroid.com are unauthorized.

iMobie pages differ on supported Android versions: the current product page states Android 6 through Android 16, while the Quick and Deep Recovery guides say Android 5 and above. Check the live DroidKit tech specifications and the downloadable program for your phone before purchasing; compatibility claims do not guarantee that a particular model or recovery case will work.

How to use DroidKit Quick Recovery without root

  1. Install and open DroidKit. Download it from iMobie’s official site and launch it on the computer.
  2. Choose “Quick Recovery from Device.” Do not choose Deep Recovery if you are avoiding root.
  3. Select the data categories. For deleted files, keep the documentation’s limitation in mind: Quick Recovery marks deleted photos, videos, and audio as supported, not deleted personal and social data.
  4. Connect the phone by USB. Unlock it and approve any access or USB-debugging authorization prompt that appears. If Android displays a USB mode notification, choose File Transfer or MTP if available. Prompts vary by manufacturer and Android version.
  5. Start the scan. Keep the cable connected and the phone powered while DroidKit scans.
  6. Preview the results. Check that the specific files you need appear and can be selected; a completed scan alone does not prove the original files are intact.
  7. Export and verify. Choose To PC where possible, then open the exported files and check that they are complete and usable before deleting anything else. iMobie says Quick Recovery can restore deleted photos, videos, and audio directly to the Android device; exporting to a computer is preferable as a preservation precaution.

If the computer does not detect the phone

  • Unlock the screen and reconnect with a known-good data cable; some cables charge only.
  • Try a different USB port and avoid a hub. Select File Transfer/MTP if the phone offers a USB mode choice.
  • Accept the phone’s access or USB-debugging authorization prompt. Do not assume enabling debugging will fix every detection problem.
  • On Windows, check whether the appropriate USB or ADB driver is installed or needs updating.
  • Restart both devices, ensure the phone has adequate charge, and reconnect.
  • If the port is damaged, the operating system has failed, or the phone cannot authorize the computer, stop repeated attempts. A repair or professional data-recovery assessment may be more appropriate.

How to judge scan results—and when to stop

A listed result may be a thumbnail, cached copy, partial file, old version, or database entry whose attachment is missing. Before relying on a recovery, open the exported file, compare its size and image resolution or video duration with what you expect, and confirm that any attachment or conversation is complete.

If Quick Recovery does not show the needed usable files, do not buy based on the scan completing or on the advertised number of data types. Recheck Trash and backups, search the phone for moved or renamed files, and look in cloud services. If the data is on a removable SD card, stop using the card and consider having it imaged separately. If the files are irreplaceable and the phone is damaged, dead, or no longer boots, avoid resets, firmware flashing, repeated boot attempts, or rooting and consult a reputable mobile-data-recovery laboratory. Ask whether it can assess the device without writing to it and provide a written estimate.

A factory reset, encryption, a locked device, or storage damage can make recovery impossible. Check cloud and manufacturer backups first; DroidKit is not a guaranteed factory-reset recovery tool. Do not confuse a screen-unlock feature with data recovery or attempt an unverified lock bypass.

Is DroidKit worth paying for?

Use a preview-first rule: consider paying only if Quick Recovery displays the exact files you need in usable form, your device is supported, and the price is acceptable. If the scan finds no relevant files, shows only thumbnails, or you need deleted messages that the Quick Recovery guide lists as existing-only, buying is difficult to justify. For data with legal, medical, financial, or serious personal value, a professional assessment may be preferable to experimenting with the phone.
